I submitted a review a short time ago commenting about how happy our mother was at Sunrise of Elstree. Subsequent to that email she caught Covid-19 at the home and has sadly passed away. She and four other residents have had the same fate. Whilst I appreciate that no home is completely secure I was extremely alarmed to receive their marketing emails promoting Covid safety measures that are in place at the home. It is both shocking and shameless that this should be used as a promotional tool when residents have died. Shame on you Sunrise!

My father needed respite care after a fall. Sunrise couldn't do enough for him, to settle him in and care for his needs. We wouldn't hesitate to use the home again. They take covid19 extremely seriously, and we felt secure in that.

I and my two brothers are very pleased with the overall welcome, service and care that is being provided for our Dad, who has just moved in during August.
I personally come from a career in hospitality for the care industry and I genuinely could not fault any of the 12 KPI`s listed below on this survey.

Therefore I would not hesitate to recommend Sunrise of Elstree to anybody looking for reassurance about the care and well being for their family members or loved ones.

The care my father has received at Sunrise is second to none and the staff have been amazing to my dad - who can sometimes be quite difficult (it's an age thing!).
Last night I got a call from the senior carer to say she was taking my dad to hospital for an urgent CT scan as my dad had fallen last week and at the time refused to go to hospital. She was meant to finish work at 6 pm. My dad and the senior carer did not return to the home until midnight, 6 hours after she was meant to finish her shift. Thankfully the scan was clear.
All the staff at Sunrise are so friendly and I can speak to anyone about my dad. They are always contactable by phone or email.

Before my dad came to Sunrise, I had looked at several other homes but I didn't think they were right for him. I just didn't get good vibes from the other care homes. The minute I walked into Sunrise, I felt it was the right place for my dad.

Sunrise of Elstree has been excellent in their good care, compassion and understanding of my mother’s needs.
I can’t praise them highly enough for the individual care, cooperation and support during the COVID virus.
As far as I am aware all residents have remained safe.
The manager and her wonderful team especially 2 members of staff in particular and the concierge and their lovely colleagues too numerous to mention individually have all been very helpful.

We look forward to being able to see mum freely and take her out again but above everything to be to hug her! Thank you Sunrise.

It is difficult to give a full and fair review as our mother only moved into Sunrise days before lockdown, and we have been unable to visit her. However, we are aware through telephone and email contact that the team has done their utmost to keep the residents safe and entertained, and have kept in contact with the families.

Reply from Debbie Armstrong, General Manager at Elstree View Care Home - Avery Collection

Sunrise of Elstree appreciate moving into a care home can be an unsettling time. This is why we take the time to engage with family members and friends of the resident to make the process as smooth as possible, to get to know the resident on a personal level. We are pleased your mother has settled in well.

The new procedure for visitors at Sunrise of Elstree has clearly been put together with great thought for the residents' safety but also their mental well being. It was wonderful to see my Dad and sit and talk to him yesterday after such a long absence, Dementia is a frightening illness. I am so grateful to all the staff there who show such compassion to their residents. As a family we feel very reassured with the care Dad is receiving, thank you all again.

Since my 95-year-old mother became a resident in February this year, we have nothing but praise for the staff both carers and management. Since the onset of the CV-19 crisis, the team have been exemplary not only keeping the residents occupied but ensuring regular updates to and with family including video calls etc and constant reassurance on the steps being taken for the safety of all at the Community.

There are not enough words to thank the amazing staff at Sunrise for the care and attention they showed my step mum during her months of respite and to me in the last days of her life. Nothing was too much for them, from the laundry staff to the cleaners to the F and B team to ALL the amazing nurses and the incredible managers especially. They made sure she was comfortable and clean and well-fed during all her stays. She was so so happy being there and looked forward to going back after her hospital stays. I always knew that she was safe and that she would be well looked after when I left her in the evenings. Thank you all so much for the kindness and care you showed her and the whole family at the end. I can't recommend your care home enough.

My mother was on the second floor, reminiscence, in Sunrise of Elstree, until she passed away several weeks ago.
Sadly we were not able to care for my mother at home with her dementia, and so she moved into Sunrise three and a half years ago.
My family and I have always been very happy with the care she received there from all members of the staff. They have always been caring and cheerful in what were often difficult situations. The staff have felt like our family and came to know and understand my mother very well.
We were always notified of any changes in her condition in a timely fashion and staff always sought appropriate medical advice.
My mother's room was always kept clean and tidy, and clothing washed very frequently. Again staff doing these jobs were always helpful and cheerful.

My family and I have felt supported by the staff during the time that my mother was in Sunrise of Elstree.

Moving out of the family home after 38 years was the difficult decision I have taken in recent years. I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2010 and due to its progression, I now have 24/7 care. The team at Sunrise have welcomed me into the community and great care has been taken to settle me in and "feel at home". Those last three words summarise where I hope to be by Christmas this year.

The care home encourages residents to so as much as they can and not forgetting to assist with personal and other tasks. My thanks to all the staff, including those "behind the scenes" for my care and safety.

The home itself is in a beautiful location with amazing views at the back which is breathtaking. The home itself is bright and modern in furnishings compared to others I have seen and spacious rooms and corridors. Finally, cannot fault the staff, very hands-on with residents, good quality of care and attention to all residents, which I was concerned about initially but needn't have been. The only downside, wish minimum period/stay could be shorter if required.

Sunrise is a beautiful location with great facilities and some very lovely staff.
However, it is very expensive and needs to provide better value for money.

Whilst the menu looks impressive the quality of food needs to be better and rather than spend more money (as planned) on aesthetics (which are already wonderful) I would invest in more staff and more interesting outings for residents as well as the kitchen and chef.

I started working in the elderly care sector in 2010 and have been at Elstree View since 2019.

I was promoted from Dementia Care Manager to Deputy Manager in 2022 and to General Manager in 2023.

My background is predominantly in dementia care, and I was extremely proud to complete my postgraduate Master’s in Dementia Studies in 2019.

I am passionate about providing person-centred care for our residents as well as supporting family and friends to be involved in the care of their loved ones.

I find my job hugely rewarding, and it is great to work with such a long-serving, committed and caring team here at Elstree View Care Home.

My name is Simona Ciuperca, and I am the Deputy Manager at Elstree View.

I started with the company in January 2021 as a Residential Care Manager, and I am very happy to call Elstree View home.

I first started working in the care industry in 2010, initially as a Registered General Nurse. Since then, I have grown and developed in the management area, completing my QCF Level 5 in Health and Social Care and Leadership.

I feel very passionate about residents’ care and ensuring that high standards are reached and maintained.

Every resident living in our community has a voice, and we are here to support their choices while respecting their dignity and providing them with the support they need to start a new life at Elstree View.

As someone who likes to be challenged and has a proven aptitude for providing a high level of professional care with a truly resident-focused approach, I am excited to utilise my management expertise and significant nursing skills to ensure our residents enjoy the best possible lifestyle.

I will always welcome and encourage involvement in our home from the friends and relatives of our residents, so please contact me at any time to discuss any suggestions you may have.

I started working in the care sector in 2014 as a care assistant and have worked in various roles within social care, developing my skills and knowledge along the way. I completed my Level 5 diploma in leadership and management in health and social care in 2019. I have been working at Elstree View since July 2022 as the dementia care manager on The Orchids and can honestly say I have enjoyed every minute.

The reason I am so drawn to working in care is knowing that each day I can make a difference in someone’s day, no matter how big or small that difference is. Working as a dementia care manager can be challenging at times, but I find it truly rewarding.

Everyone deserves to receive the highest standard of care possible, so taking a person-centred approach is a key part of my work ethic. I am very passionate about working with those who are living with dementia and supporting their families. I will also do everything I can to support my residents and their families.

I first started working in the care sector in 2009 when I started as a care manager for Elstree View. I have worked my way through different positions within Elstree View over the last 15 years, where I have now found myself dealing with all the new enquiries that come into the community, which I do enjoy very much.

It is great meeting potential new residents and giving them a tour of our home, as well as hearing their stories on how they have come to stay at Elstree, some being sad as well as happy. I’m here to support and make this part of their journey as stress-free as possible. Please contact me and arrange a tour of our lovely home.

I have been working in a care setting for 20 years, and it's been the best choice I made. I had the privilege to grow up with my grandparents around me and care for my mother; therefore, to me, the elderly will always be my family, and as such, it felt special walking into this home eighteen months ago. My role as BOC is central to all other departments, ensuring the administration function continues to flow smoothly. I am committed to helping the dedicated team, residents and families, giving my best at all times. It is always a pleasure when a resident knocks on my door with a query or stops for a chat in the corridor. I enjoy listening to them, I respect them and am always happy to help and bring a smile.
