Rochester Care Home has created a relaxed and homely environment for all residents.

The building is single-storey and purpose-built with four areas. Each area had 14 bedrooms around a lounge/diner. Residents are welcome to join in activities in any of the areas. There’s plenty of space to sit outside at Rochester – residents have a choice of gardens and courtyards to enjoy.

CQC has given Rochester a rating of ‘Good’ (March 2017).

There are 56 bedrooms at Rochester. Many of the bedrooms look out or have direct access to one of the gardens.

All rooms have en-suites or washbasins in the room. The rooms without an en-suite have accessible shower rooms and bathrooms nearby.

Each bedroom’s front door is a different colour, with a door knocker, which makes it more recognisable. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms.

Personal possessions help residents feel at home, and provide extra stimulation and time for reminiscence. They also give staff an important understanding of a resident’s personality, history and what’s important to them.

Trips out include the garden centre, and even the pub on occasion, if that’s what residents choose to do that day.

Animals are always really popular visitors at Rochester. As well as therapy dogs, they have larger four-legged friends in. On a sunny day, the garden is a great spot for residents to have an ice cream, followed by cuddles with a Shetland pony or a donkey!

Rochester has church visits every week and often have local schoolchildren coming into sing. A local consultant and his family come and volunteer.

Mum has settled in so well here and she smiles a lot and has made friends. The home is clean and she is well kept and always looks nice. Staff are approachable and really good with the more difficult ones. Staff always have a smile on their faces. Mum now joins in activities including gentle exercises,
she said she is happy what more can I say but thank you to all at this home.

After visiting the care home for a period of time throughout January, I would have to say that the staff, facilities, food and Manager of the home are all great and understanding. before we visited I always was a bit concerned about care homes, but after being here my opinion has changed. Extremely polite and friendly staff. The home is really clean and fresh smelling. The furnishings are attractive and the garden well-tended. Observed a rather demanding resident being dealt with in a kind and respectful way. Generally very impressed.

Our overall impression of this care home is excellent. Where I have rated good in the options is because I feel there is very minor room for improvement.
Care and Support - All the staff without exception are kind, caring, patient, considerate and professional. The reason for the Good rating is because
I feel ideally there should be more staff to deal with the complex needs of residents. I appreciate this is a funding issue. A big thank you to all.
Facilities and Activities, Alos a quite family room for special occasions - Again funding issue, maybe some very simple exercise equipment, Breathing pets, visits from school children@
Overall I believe the food to be nutritious and I get the impression there could be more variety.

Overall very good. I do think more could be done to encourage physical exercise, (and I do know that is very difficult, esp, with some of the more vulnerable or weaker residents) such as small pieces of gym kit e.g. Small cycle pedals that residents could use while sitting etc.

Since mum has been a resident we have noticed a continuous improvement in her health and well-being. We have always been impressed with the level of care and interaction between all members of staff and mum. She has settled in extremely well and is happy in her environment. I think the overall care is very good. My mum has settled in very well and it's comforting to know she is getting well looked after. I think staffing levels could be better at the weekend as the staff look to be stretched. I would like to see the reception manned at all times. I visited at the weekend
to find my mum sitting on her commode. I would prefer and I'm sure she would as well that visitors are made aware of her circumstances so we don't just walk in on her.

We visited our aunt for the first time since she moved into Rochester Care home. We found her to be among other guests and she appeared happy and well cared for. The ambience of the home was apparent.
Staff were approachable, helpful and attentive to the residents and friendly. We felt she was safe

The manager and staff are all completely dedicated to their jobs. They are very helpful and accommodating with regards to residence and their families. The home is very clean and no nasty smells. My mother is always well presented and cared for.

Based on my visits and communication with the home, dad always seems happy and content. He has been a resident for 3 and a half years, so it means a lot to me that he is looked after so well. He has a few health problems and staff appear very attentive.

My mum has recently moved into Rochester Care Home and so far, me and my wife are extremely pleased with the friendly care staff, the cosy homely feel and how kindly they are treating mum, they involve her in activities and chores which is just what my mum needs. You can tell that the staff genuinely

My dad has dementia and Alzheimer's and my mum is his carer, but my mum had a massive stroke and we needed to put my dad in care. The manager and her staff were amazing, so kind and compassionate. My dad has settled and we think it may be his long term home.

Mum has improved on her wellbeing. Over a year ago when I came she appeared frightened it is really nice to see how she has settled, happy and put on weight. She appears to be engaged in conversation with her family and other residents.

I feel that my mum is extremely happy in her care home, she says that she feels everybody has their arms wrapped around her! That's because the carers quite often do. All of her needs are catered for and I do not have any concerns regarding her welfare.
