The staff have been incredibly kind, caring, and compassionate, and from the very beginning they have made us feel completely at ease. We have no doubt at all that we have chosen the right place, as the level of care and attention given is consistently reassuring. Communication has been excellent throughout;

The carers are always kind and attentive to my mother in law. They have become accustomed to all her wishes, and will always discuss her needs with her.
The team will liaise with me if something needs to be discussed or if she is needing something.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My wife has been living at Derwent for nearly 5 weeks, and I am extremely pleased with the staff and the environment. Everyone is helpful and caring, and the house (or two houses in one!) and grounds are very pleasant. Also, her room is lovely, and I am very relieved that Derwent is now my wife's home.
My only criticism is that so far, I haven't been aware of much in the way of activities there. Overall, I would rather give 5 stars than 4 but perhaps 4 and a half would be more accurate. Value for money is a difficult thing to assess for a layperson, but compared to other residential homes, I would say Derwent is good value for money.
Reply from Ali Sepehri, Home Manager at Derwent Residential Care HomeDear Robert
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your thoughts and observations about Derwent. Your feedback is truly appreciated and helpful.
I'm delighted to hear that your wife is settling in well and that you have been pleased with the kindness and care of the staff, the comfort of her room, and the overall environment. Our goal is always to make Derwent feel like home, and your positive comments are very encouraging.
You've raised an important point regarding activities. I agree that a diverse and enriching program is essential for well-being, and I apologise for the lack of variety you've observed in this area. I will follow up with the team to ensure we assess and expand our range of activities (including social, creative, physical, and cognitive), communicate the schedule more clearly to residents and families, and actively seek feedback to better reflect their interests. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

The staff are caring, patient and supportive both to mum and myself. Easy to talk to and I feel they listen or take on board any concerns. The one issue can be food, but mum has complained less lately. Mum is always clean and appears well cared for and any health issues are dealt with promptly. Lovely
family atmosphere but more activities would be good.

Right from the very day my mother entered the care home, the staff have been amazing. Nothing is to much trouble. The facilities are excellent and spotless. Whilst she suffers with her memory she is always talking to at least one member of staff and getting about with her zimmer. Our small family have
just celebrated her 90th at the care home and we were even allowed to bring in my daughter's new cocker spaniel puppy, which put a big smile on my mother face. I can't thank them enough for making her life bearable.

Good caring/friendly care staff, all get on well with my mum, and provide her a good family atmosphere. Clean environment, good food and a nice spacious room. Helpful and understanding management team. I feel my mum is being looked after well, following her move to Derwent in November 2024. After the
initial move and some initial confusion on her part, she now appears to have settled and is accepting of the new environment

We moved my mother to Derwent Residential Care Home and the staff and management helped us through what was a difficult transition. They were kind, honest and professional and treated us as family, and my mother with care and dignity at a very stressful time. Sadly my mother died only 3 weeks after

I cannot fault the care at Derwent. My mum loves all the staff and it’s a very safe environment. They are all exceptionally good at what they do and have plenty of care and understanding for my mum who is nonverbal. My only negatives are that mum sometimes doesn’t get up until 11 am and has her breakfast
then and about an hour later will have her lunch. The only other downfall is they do not have enough activities at present, but there is a new manager who hopefully will bring this in place. Very impressed with the communications by the new manager to us as a family to keep us updated at all times.

From the first time of seeing the home we were put at ease, the home is lovely and clean, no smells and the staff are lovely. Very spacious and well set out. The kitchen is lovely and clean and the meals smell lovely. We saw two homes before Derwent and they were disgusting. I can actually sleep at
night knowing they are in good hands.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.541)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.541) out of 10 for Derwent Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.641 for Derwent Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (147 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 198 Ratings = 4.641
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Derwent Residential Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
