Lovely caring staff, very clean. My friend has settled in and is very happy. The rooms are big and decorated very nicely. The staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble. My friend is very well cared for at Derwent.

The staff made my father feel this was a home from home, they even bought him a lawn mower to help him continue his regular routines. Great awareness of needs that were addressed immediately.

Am grateful for all that the carers do - I know they are stretched and poorly paid. Some carers are more attentive and pleasant than others. Little things mean a lot - like the carer who buys cat treats for Mum and Dad to feed the home cat. Similarly - abruptness and impatience have an impact too....

Some carers are very brisk and short - not allowing residents to be heard and dismissing them. Floors and tables are often dirty and sticky. Washing clothes - never seem to get own clothes returned! Poor stimulation and activities provided?

I have always found this care home to be clean and have a comfortable atmosphere. The staff are very good with the residents and the food is excellent (special arrangements for my friend who is vegetarian).

Overall Experience
My experience of Derwent is very good. The staff are very caring and excellent in their care of my mum. They are always friendly and courteous when I or other members of the family visit Mum. The staff are always very helpful when I have any questions about Mum's dementia.

My experience with the Derwent has been extremely good. Good staff, food, and general care. I've known other residents prior to my sister-in-law, hence this was our first choice of care near our home, and the care continues to this day.

On appearance she is clean, skin looks healthy and feels soft. Feet look well taken care of and she enjoys her fingernails being painted. Hair neat and tidy. No complaints from her. Staff been outstanding.

Some staff very curt and rude. No engaging activities obvious or timetable. Considering a dementia home. My mother has since moved and I cannot believe the difference in care facilities. Would not recommend this awful place. Building in need of good facelift and front gardens full of rubbish. Far better homes out there than this place!

Do not believe the Quality Care Commission report. This is a really good care home with really lovely and caring staff. I have worked in care homes and this is the best you can get so I do not understand why they need improvement. It is not the caring staff, as they are all wonderful.
