The staff made my father feel this was a home from home, they even bought him a lawn mower to help him continue his regular routines. Great awareness of needs that were addressed immediately.

Am grateful for all that the carers do - I know they are stretched and poorly paid. Some carers are more attentive and pleasant than others. Little things mean a lot - like the carer who buys cat treats for Mum and Dad to feed the home cat. Similarly - abruptness and impatience have an impact too. Some
carers are very brisk and short - not allowing residents to be heard and dismissing them. Floors and tables are often dirty and sticky. Washing clothes - never seem to get own clothes returned! Poor stimulation and activities provided?

I have always found this care home to be clean and have a comfortable atmosphere. The staff are very good with the residents and the food is excellent (special arrangements for my friend who is vegetarian).

My experience of Derwent is very good. The staff are very caring and excellent in their care of my mum. They are always friendly and courteous when I or other members of the family visit Mum. The staff are always very helpful when I have any questions about Mum's dementia.

Friendly, warm and caring staff. They spend time getting to know each person that is in their care. Nothing is too much trouble. Willing to listen to any worries from family that visit, easy to talk to and they understand. My mum is treated with respect, as all residents are. They have fun and keep
busy. My mum's room is always clean as is my mum and she is fed well. Lots of activities.

My mum came to stay for nine days respite. She was very happy here, in fact, for the first time she has asked to go back when we go on holiday. This is a major breakthrough for us. The staff are very good and friendly. The activities lady became her friend and we had positive feedback from her. We are
hoping Mum will be able to stay again in a few weeks' time.

My experience with the Derwent has been extremely good. Good staff, food, and general care. I've known other residents prior to my sister-in-law, hence this was our first choice of care near our home, and the care continues to this day.

My mum appears well kept, when asked she said the staff are very good to her and they are good fun and take care she is looked after. She said the food is good but misses cooking her own food. On appearance she is clean, skin looks healthy and feels soft. Feet look well taken care of and she enjoys
her fingernails being painted. Hair neat and tidy. No complaints from her. Staff been outstanding.

Due to Covid could only have garden visits. The Garden was in disrepair at the time, broken seating area. Witnessed a resident fall through a swing chair seating with staff laughing.
Some staff very curt and rude. No engaging activities obvious or timetable. Considering a dementia home. My mother
has since moved and I cannot believe the difference in care facilities. Would not recommend this awful place. Building in need of good facelift and front gardens full of rubbish. Far better homes out there than this place!
Also, neglect founded on my mother's personal care.

I recommend they update their website photos as not accurate as buildings and gardens in need of repair.
Small ornaments scattered around the garden at floor level not good for partially sighted or dementia patients.
Blinds always closed so residents are unable to look out the front window.
My mum
never had on her own clothes or even her glasses.
Never responded to emails/calls regarding safeguarding issues.
The phone never answered and felt some staff quite curt when answering.

A dementia care specialist home which has proved to be a very good place for our mother. The care staff are all local and have been the same throughout, so staff are retained which is a good sign. They have helped us deal with and understand dementia. Our mother is now settled and the staff seem genuinely
fond of her.

Do not believe the Quality Care Commission report. This is a really good care home with really lovely and caring staff. I have worked in care homes and this is the best you can get so I do not understand why they need improvement. It is not the caring staff, as they are all wonderful.

I am the husband of a resident.
Overall, I am very happy with the care my wife receives at Derwent Residential Care Home. I am myself made to feel welcome at all times as I am there most days visiting my wife. The staff and carers treat my wife with dignity and respect at all times and this makes me
feel comfortable when I leave at the end of the day. I hope this care and level of professionalism continues for the future care of my wife.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.426)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.426) out of 10 for Derwent Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.601 for Derwent Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (119 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 163 Ratings = 4.601
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Derwent Residential Care Home is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
