I'm extremely happy at the care my mum receives in Barchester Ashfields Care Home. The staff are lovely and very caring and meet Mum's needs with a smile. They are always there to discuss and queries you may have and nothing is too much trouble for them. A big plus for me is that Mum no longer feels
lonely. When in her own home, she forgot who she'd seen or talked to so felt very lonely. The company of others and the staff mean this is no longer an issue. I leave her knowing she is in good hands.

After a poor experience in another care home (two weeks), we moved my husband to Barchester Ashfields Care Home. We were thrilled from day one by the facilities, staff and extremely high level of care. Now, three months since my husband became a resident, we have been delighted by the high standards
in every part of his care. Staff go above and beyond expectations - the food/meals in beautifully presented restaurant are superb.
For us, his family, there is a sense of extreme relief that the one we love so much is now cared for so well.

As a family, we cannot express our gratitude enough for the ongoing care our loved one received. All of the staff go above and beyond what you expect and nothing is ever too much trouble. The manager is extremely caring and supportive and the whole team, including catering and admin, are involved in
your loved one's journey and care.
Barchester Ashfields Care Home is a credit to the organisation, we would like to thank every single member of staff who supported us and our family member.
We will be forever grateful to the team.
Kind regards.

My mum was in Barchester Ashfields Care Home with dementia. I can't recommend all the staff enough. That means all the staff including management, maintenance care team, chefs, as they went above and beyond their usual duties and helped us in every way they could.
The home itself is spotless and the
best home I have been in and believe me I have seen a lot of them with my job.
All in all lovely staff and home.

My aunt, for whom I also have power of attorney for finance etc. but not well-being, has been at Barchester Ashfields Care Home for just over a year and she had her 100th birthday at the home. Prior to her admission and whilst she was in hospital, she was described as someone who would be difficult
to place because of the degree of her dementia and some of her behaviours. I can only say that I am delighted with the care she is receiving at Ashfields. They have her measure and now she seems to be very happy there, although maintains that she doesn't live there! All friends and family comment on the quality of care and my aunt's general happiness, although, of course, this does vary in line with the state of her dementia. The staff at Ashfields cope with these variations extremely well and given that at least three places refused to take her from hospital, this speaks volumes for their caring skills and their compassion.
I feel confident, not to say relieved, that my aunt is in very good hands.

We would like to say how pleased we have been with every aspect of care. The resident was treated with kindness and dignity at all times. Whenever we visited, we were made to feel welcome and feel we could discuss his progress. We were always kept up to date with any issues that occurred.
We (myself,
my wife and the resident's niece) are so pleased that we chose Barchester Ashfields Care Home to care for our loved one. Thank you to the manager, administrator and all the staff.

I cannot express my gratitude enough for the ongoing 24-hour-a-day, seven-days-a-week care, respect and patience given to my dad. The staff go above and beyond to meet Dad's needs. I find the communication with myself is informative and constant from all at Barchester Ashfields Care Home. Their knowledge
of Dad is amazing and is built upon the wonderful care they give. They listen and understand both myself and my dad which makes this current chapter in our lives so much easier to come to terms with.

Most importantly, my mum seems happy. All the staff are so nice to my mum and her face lights up when they speak to her. If they see her walking down the corridor they say 'hello' and interact with her. I cannot fault any of the carers.
My mum always looks clean. Her clothes are clean and her room
is clean. There is a choice of meals.
The entertainment staff actively encourage my mum to take part in activities. The social media page is interesting to look at to see what has been taking place and who too part.
I am kept notified about my mum, e.g. falls or doctor visits.
Overall, I am happy with Barchester Ashfields Care Home and would happily recommend it.

I visited Barchester Ashfields Care Home on Saturday 17th August 2024. There was an afternoon in the garden with a BBQ and entertainment which made it feel like a garden fete. The singer was excellent and related to the audience very well. My aunt was in her wheelchair, as was her sister and there were
just four carers for thirty-four residents, so the staff were working very hard! There was no manager, no admin and no head of care so I will be phoning next week for information.

My husband entered the care home in November 2023. He was very confused, had no idea really what was going on and therefore, was very agitated. I was informed by the manager that this was a normal reaction. With lots of help and kindness and medication, they have delivered him to a totally different
state. Nine months on, he is now very calm, has accepted his placing here and is aware of what happens to him and his daily routine. The staff dealing with him are amazing in the techniques they use and so patient. He is now treating it more as his home and beginning to join in activities. A huge well done to everyone.

My mum received outstanding care throughout her entire stay. At no point did we doubt the quality of care or the activities offered as her ability to engage with them declined. Her passing in October 2023 was treated with the respect and dignity we had come to expect in life. Amazing staff. This review
though is to credit the behind the scene's administration. The administrator has the patience of a saint in dealing with the council. She continued to support us - answering questions and making contact with them nine months after Mum passed. Barchester Ashfields Care Home is lucky to have a full team of staff who care for people and their families. Top marks.

My father was a resident for almost a year, initially thought it was a lovely home but after changing and stopping his medication this had a detrimental effect on his health. Dad was sent to the Hospital to have his medication reviewed and stabilised and was meant to return to Ashfields but the manager
then terminated his contract without any prior meetings or notification to us, on the day he was admitted. They then boxed his belongings up to be collected like he didn't matter! Through no fault of his own, as he has Alzheimer's they couldn't get rid of him quick enough, but he didn't choose for them to mess about with his medication and then be disregarded. The carers and administrators are so lovely but the home is not led by a good manager! No wonder so many carers leave their jobs at Ashfields.
Reply from Feedback Team, The Feedback Team at Barchester Ashfields Care HomeThanks for taking the time to leave us a further review. Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.640)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.640) out of 10 for Barchester Ashfields Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 36 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.640 for Barchester Ashfields Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (288 Excellents x 5) + (121 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 422 Ratings = 4.64
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Ashfields Care Home is based on 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 35 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
