I have been staggered at the transformation effected in my father through his stay at York House. They really know what they're about. No reservations at all in giving this home the highest possible recommendation.

Having been a visitor to six of my friends over a period of six years, I have seen the care of my friends and others to be of a very high standard. I would consider this care home to be one of the best in central Norfolk as I retired a few years ago from being a care manager of the elderly for 25 years.

My mum has been happy at York House. All the staff have been very kind, caring and professional.
The manager/lead carers have responded promptly to any needs/requests and have been v approachable. Mum has enjoyed her interaction with many of the staff and will miss some keenly when she moves into
a nursing home.
I have been impressed by the care and kindness of staff towards mum and other residents as well as their sense of humour.

I try to visit my brother weekly and I find the welcome very warm and friendly.
The staff are very nice to me and others and treat them with the respect that they deserve for the work and care they give to my brother and others and from me.
A very big thank you.

As a regular visitor to York House over the past 12 months, I can only express my admiration for the way that the residents are cared for. Every respect of the care is exceptional and of a constant high standard.
One very important feature is the availability of staff/management to discuss any concerns
should the need arise. This open attitude gives the families of any resident a feeling of security and certainly minimises any worries that the family may have.

As my mum had to move out of a care home in Norwich because of it closing down, it was very bad.
We the 3 children moved her to York House in Dereham.
And she is still alive and well and 94 years old. Thanking you.

Faced with the stark reality of a 100-year-old mother wanting to remain at home, unwilling to accept being unable to cope with basic needs or increasing safety risks. Despite multiple non-residential care visits, a cleaner, plus 8 hours personal care daily, shopping, laundry, healthcare organisation,
medications, supply, administration, emotional support for everyday decisions by us, yet still not enough, so we had to take action.

A period of hallucinatory behaviour emphasised the end of sheltered housing and independent living. With no way of adapting our place to take her in, the move to residential care was essential. Social services proposed York House which proved the perfect place for her to live out her remaining days safely, peacefully and with dignity. Very well managed, responsive, exceptionally clean with highly proficient, friendly and caring staff, doing their level best to make this proper home.

York House lifted a tremendous and debilitating burden from my wife, allowing the joy of transition fro new full-time daily carer to becoming a caring daily visitor, making it possible to carry on. We see this safe haven every day and the level of care provided to residents has remained consistently of a high standard. We can recommend York house without reservation to anyone contemplating the need for a home for their elderly loved ones.

My Mum has been a resident in York House since November 2016. From day one she has had excellent care and her outlook on life and confidence has improved immensely. She has put on weight and the staff cannot do enough for her and the other residents. On particular realise of this care home which is
outstanding is the availability of any member of staff from the manager down. This care home is exceptional and thoroughly recommended.

York House is an excellent home where my mother has received the best possible care and supervision. She has enjoyed being treated as a member of a large family. Visitors are always made to feel welcome and nothing is ever too much trouble for the well-trained staff.
There is a relaxed, kind and knowledgeable
management team. Mothers room met her needs perfectly and it was always kept clean and tidy. I had total confidence in all aspects of her care.

My mother died at York House after spending two happy years there. Her death was sudden but that meant no suffering. We cannot thank the manager and her team enough. Without exception from cook to cleaner, they could not have done more. Again - thank you to them all.

My aunt who has been a resident since Nov 2015 speaks very highly of all the staff and management and being unable to walk has the attention of the staff a lot of the time. She really feels at home. My own experience is limited but I also find the staff always pleasant.

My father has dementia and all the problems that go with it as well as poor mobility. The staff are all so friendly, kind and always cheerful despite doing a very demanding job. He cannot tell us how he is getting on there, but always says everybody is so kind to him. The manager or senior staff will
always update and inform me of his progress whenever I ask. He gets very muddled up about things but nobody minds this and all have immense patience. The only problem has been some clothes being shrunk in the laundry as water too hot.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.854)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.854) out of 10 for York House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 45 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.854 for York House is calculated as follows: ( (446 Excellents x 5) + (63 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 515 Ratings = 4.854
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for York House is based on 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6, which has been reached with 45 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
