Choice Care Home has a Review Score of 3.5 (3.500)
The Review Score of 3.5 (maximum of 10) for Choice Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 3.2 out of 5 from 2 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Choice Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 0 out of 5 from 0 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.
The Average Rating of 3.5 for Choice Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (7 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (4 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 20 Ratings = 3.5
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.
1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.
If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.
The 0 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Choice Care Home is based on 0 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:
0 = 0
Target of 6.4 positive Reviews (32 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 0 Reviews ÷ 6.4 Target = 0
When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I have visited this care home twice. Each time it was very smelly. The friend I visited yesterday had not been helped to have a wash. The full commode was in the room with the lid off and had not been collected. The person was taken biscuits with her coffee. The biscuits were not on a plate but in the staff members hand.
When I walked through the front door a lady was wandering around with a very soiled nappy in her hand.

David Gow-Smith, Director at Choice Care Home responded to this review on 23 Jan 2018:
We don't believe this person visited our care home, as there is no record in our visitors book, and if these issues such as a commode not emptied, a resident not washed were true, why wasn't a member of staff informed? We have no record of any such feedback. The comments about poor rooms, when the home had a £600K makeover in 2016, poor activities, when there is an activities coordinator, poor value for money when our charges range from 80 pounds to 100 pounds per 24 hours, less than hotels in our prestigious neighbourhood, suggest to us that the reviewer has not visited our home.
Review submitted from a Website Submission by Christopher V (Son of Resident) on Monday 20 July 2015. Relates to June 2015.
My mother only had a short stay at Choice, only for about 1 month. Unfortunately she passed away during her stay there, but the staff were always polite, friendly and very attentive to my mothers needs. They had a 24/7 visiting policy and so I was able to visit whenever I wanted. I cannot recommend this care home highly enough, they were brilliant. I just wish my mum had, had more time there to enjoy their facilities and activities.
