1. I commend senior carer (K) for her professionalism, kindness & skill in helping to care for my wife (who has advanced dementia) during a Health Service Clinic appointment. We could not have managed without her.
2. I also commend the Deputy Manager (KW) for her emotional sensitivity & insight esp in the early months when I was still recovering from caring for my wife at home.

3. Obvious improvements to the Home over the past year since the present manager (LR) has been in post

After several tooth infections my mum had a an appointment at the dental centre. Although not the normal practice to send a carer one was granted and this was excellent. Kerry was the staff member and she was brilliant. It was a disorientating experience for my mum and Kerry was a point of normalisation. Mum obviously knew her and liked her. She was the only one able to persuade mum to put her chin on a rest. Kerry clearly knew my mum and was exceptionally tuned into her.

It was definitely a 3 person job. Kerry was a calming and caring presence on a very stressful trip. Thank you Kerry.

Reply from Rachel Wood, Head of Customer Relations at Castle Dene

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We're so pleased that Kerry was able to provide such compassionate support and help make what was clearly a stressful appointment a little easier for your mum. Your kind words mean a great deal, and we'll be sure to pass your thanks on to Kerry and the team.

My mums care I can only say was adequate. She was in this care home for around 18 months before she passed away. In that time I had need to call adult social services 3 times. Due to my mums poor health it was decided not to unsettle her and move her. Mum had poor health and was not mobile so needed to be hoisted, Some staff could be a little rough with her when changing or moving her, which I had spoken to senior staff about. On one occasion a member of my family after visiting was in tears as a member of staff was so rude to her that I had need to put in an official complaint, I would go in and help mum with eating her dinner, I noticed that some residents would eat barely any food which would be thrown in the bin. I did challenge a member of staff one day when a resident ate nothing and the whole plate of food went in the bin, the answer I got was she is tired. It has been a stressful and sometimes unhappy 18 months. Some staff were kind to mum and the family to which I thank

When 24/7 care becomes necessary, it is a significant change that affects both the individual in need as well as the family.
Having undertaken this decision with the utmost care and consideration, the next step is to ensure that the right residential care home is chosen - which can be daunting.
Well, you need not worry any more - because Castle Dene is a wonderful care home choice.
My father, who is fragile and incredibly unstable on his feet, is very happy at Castle Dene.
His room is very comfortable and warm, with a lovely large window overlooking the spacious and attractive garden which lets in lots of natural light.
This definitely makes a big difference to his happiness, as his 'personal space' is cozy/homely and a joy to spend time in - as are all the communal rooms and dining room/conservatory.
The food is of a high quality and plentiful.
BUT most importantly, the care is amazing.

The staff are attentive, friendly and respectful... it is a truly happy community and environment

The care for the person who stayed at Castle Dene for 2 weeks for logistical reasons, leaving them was hard but picking up was harder as they had assimilated so well into the environment and people. Beautiful home with very friendly and present staff, relaxed and genuine.

The staff are wonderfully caring very friendly and will always help in anyway possible. My mums care is good and our problem with her medication is now sorted of which we are grateful. My other concern was the cleanliness of her room . This seems to be better but again there is room for improvement. I understand the difficulty in gaining access can be sometimes difficult so we do appreciate your continuing approach to resolving this .

On Sunday 6th July, went to see Mum, it was a good visit. The room was clean and tidy. She was good and very well!! Very pleased that her room was clean and tidy and her bed covers and sheets were clean and in good order.

Things have change at the home, and its looking up. After the last review I had to write up about the home. It was not good!!

My dad never wanted to go into residential care, but when his vascular dementia put him in an extremely vulnerable position living at home I had no alternative but to make the heartbreaking decision to investigate the options.

From my very first visit I knew Castle Dene was the right place with it's safe, warm, loving & caring environment. We managed to get him to agree to go for 'a short assessment' and haven't looked back! He loves it.

I simply cannot praise Castle Dene enough. The transition was seamless and he settled immediately. He is now safe and cared for 100% of the time. The team and management are amazing and they truly care for not only the residents but also their family - in what can be a traumatic period of guilt and questioning decisions.

Beautiful bedrooms and welcoming communal spaces, no restricted visiting times, I can have meals with dad if I want - it really is a home from home.

I cannot thank you enough x

Having seen the programmes today - 20 February 2025 - I felt driven to submit a review. My mother was a resident. It was with heavy hearts and guilty minds that we arranged for my Mum to go into the care at Castledene. She had dementia but was a lively, intelligent funny - sometimes awkward lady. I cannot praise the home enough for the easy transition. As my Mum gradually lost memories she built new ones with the care and support she received. She was part of the big family there. My Mum died last year and the home were superb with my Mum and us. If you are in doubt about where your loved ones will get the best care - it is here. Do not worry they look after and love the residents and their families.

My mum has been here 10 months now and the Carers at Castle Dene have been very kind to her from day 1 helping her settle and looking after her needs very well. I have seen many acts of kindness by carers towards other residents at Castle Dene and everyone is treated as an individual.
Dementia is the cruelest thing and the carers at Castle Dene have amazing patience, resilience and energy.
Our family are very happy with mum's placement here.
The management team are very approachable and hold regular relatives meeting to update families.
Senior care leaders are great and can problem solve most things if you ask.
The kitchen team provide nutritious meals and snacks and drinks throughout the day and make a huge effort for residents birthdays.
The effort made by all staff at Christmas was outstanding!
There are many activities, visits and trips out for everyone if they want to get involved.

So a big thank you to you all.
