I only have good things to say about this lovely Care Home and all of it's staff! James was extremely well cared for even though he could be very difficult at times! I had faught so long to get him into a Home as he was unable to care for himself any longer and his personality had changed so much! Sadly he passed away unexpectedly on 11th January which was a great shock to everyone! I commend everyone for their kindness and support to myself! I waited to send this review as I was hoping the funeral would be over but unfortunately it is still to take place so I am still in limbo!! I will advise them when it happens! In the meantime I thank everyone so very much!

Thank you, Pat, for your truly lovely words. It means so much to all of us at Portelet Lodge.

James was a wonderful gentleman to care for and we feel privileged to have supported him during his time with us.

We were very saddened by his passing and our thoughts remain with you.

Thank you...

This was my Mum's first Christmas at Portelet Lodge so I wasn't sure what to expect. Everyone was in a festive spirit and thoroughly enjoying themselves. The residents had all received Christmas presents delivered with a hug and a kiss from the Manager. I was invited to stay for Christmas dinner which I was delighted to accept.

The staff are always friendly and welcoming. They treat everyone with love, respect and kindness so I know my Mum is in excellent hands.

My mum lived at Portelet Lodge from July until November 2025, after we were no longer able to support her at home. It was a very difficult decision to make for mum to move there, but from the first we really appreciated the calm and caring atmosphere at Portelet Lodge. Mum was always well cared for and thought that the staff were always good to her. I found my every interaction to be kind and caring. Lovely people.
We only moved mum so that she could be closer to family otherwise she would have stayed.

In terms of how it could be improved, my main comment would be that I thought that there could be more activities going on for people.

My Father was moved to Portelet Loge, for respite support following the sudden hospital admission of my Mother. Due to his dementia and confusion his behavior was at times unpredictable.
This was a difficult and distressing time for my Father, and us as a family. The care staff were amazing, both in treating my Father with dignity and respect at all times and reassuring us as a family. They went over and above to ensure his needs were being met. They worked quickly with professionals in Social Care, Community Primary Health Team and the Dementia Service, always advocating on my Father best interest.
My Father settled eventually, becoming friends with carers and spoke fondly of them. When his health deteriated the carers supported us as a family to be able to stay with him 24/7 and we were with him when he passed (RIP)

We will be ever grateful to the carer staff and team at Portelet Lodge for their relentless care and support.

Thanks to all the staff for looking after our mum so well. She arrived in quite poor health and the home did a great job getting her back to her old self. My brother and I live overseas, so it was a great comfort to know she was safe and on the mend. She’s only just moved to be closer to a family friend but I’d like to say the staff were always very friendly and welcoming. Thank you everyone.
