Care Homes Owned by Portelet Care Group

This was a wonderful home for Mum. She was so happy at Portelet - whenever I visited her I could feel all the love and care around her and my sister and I will always be so grateful for everything they did. Thank you to Kat and the whole team at the Portelet.

My mum came to this wonderful care home in 2019, She was diagnosed with. vascular dementia in 2018, I would like to say that my mum who sadly passed away last month, was very happy and settled there, she had been looked after so well, I couldn't fault the care she was given. I was always informed of any health issues very promptly either by phone or email. I loved visiting the home, it was so friendly there, and enjoyed mum's company sitting in the conservatory listening and singing! to her favourite songs and we always got looked after with tea and biscuits!.

I am always consulted if anything changes and all the staff are as considerate to me as my auntie. Questions are answered and circumstances explained. The atmosphere is kind and welcoming

I fine the home look after my uncle very well ,he's been in a few homes but this home cope very well with his needs !! His wheelchair needed repairing this month and the home delt with this very well too !

My partner has been at Portelet House since Jan 2023 after a stroke in Sept 2022. I still cannot fault in any way the way she is looked after. All the staff Old and New are very friendly and helpful, giving me updates etc when I visit. Even though she cannot speak and is partly paralized the staff can communicate with her well and often make her smile. The accomodation is clean and well maintained. If the staff do not know the answer when i ask a question they soon find the answer out. The catering is vey good and any questions the staff may have they have no problem asking me. As I put earlier I cannot fault Portelet House or the staff. I would thoroughly recommend Portelet House if anyone asked me.

My Sister-in-law was very reluctant to go into a care home as, because of her dementia, she thought she could care for herself. With the help of staff at Portelet House her move was achieved in a safe and calm manner. Since the move she has been cared for very well and her general health has improved. The staff are very caring and contact us when there any concerns such as when a doctor becomes involved in her care. We are extremely pleased with the care she has received and feel confident in her care going forward.

Mum moved into Portelet Cottage Feb 2026, from hospital, she was welcomed from the moment she arrived. The home manager and the lovely carers went above and beyond to reassure her when she was confused and distressed, now 4 months later mum is extremely happy and very settled, she engages with staff and other residents, she enjoys activities particularly music. Mum has always been proud and independent and wouldn't accept assistance with her personal care, however due the skilled approach of the carers she now enjoys the interaction particularly having her hair done. Her general health is well managed and she is eating much better and if there are any concerns from the staff I am contacted immediately. When mum's happy I'm happy. My sister has recently resided at Portelet Cottage after many respite homes being tried! It has been a tough year so far to find the one! I am so thrilled my sister has finally settled, she has found a home with staff that have made her feel secure, who have listened and understand her needs, whom have equally and most importantly made her feel at home, understood and heard! To see the difference in her is beyond the words of 'Thank-you'! I do not think anyone unless in these circumstances has any idea what a caring job really entails and I want to say Thank you to all in this wonderful home, to Kat especially who has made the transition easy, with genuine care, enthusiasm and may I say 'love' for her work, to her staff and residents!

My brother was lucky enough to be a resident of Portelet Cottage and I couldn't have been any happier with his care. I knew he was safe, very well looked after and extremely well fed. The staff are so very kind and loving towards their residents and the manager Kat really makes sure everyone is happy. The Xmas party was a particular favourite.

I only have good things to say about this lovely Care Home and all of it's staff! James was extremely well cared for even though he could be very difficult at times! I had faught so long to get him into a Home as he was unable to care for himself any longer and his personality had changed so much! Sadly he passed away unexpectedly on 11th January which was a great shock to everyone! I commend everyone for their kindness and support to myself! I waited to send this review as I was hoping the funeral would be over but unfortunately it is still to take place so I am still in limbo!! I will advise them when it happens! In the meantime I thank everyone so very much!

The staff are always friendly and welcoming. They treat everyone with love, respect and kindness so I know my Mum is in excellent hands.

I can honestly recommend Portelet Cottage for its friendliness and genuine care for the needs of older residents specifically with dementia. I have witnessed staff genuinely caring for residents, (second to none). Always a welcoming smile and looking very happy in the workplace. Nothing seems too much bother to them and they carry out their work very professionally. There is total respect and dignity for residents. I could not wish for anything better for my friend than her stay at Portelet Cottage. She is totally secure, cared for, washed, dressed, fed and well looked after. Top marks!!

In terms of how it could be improved, my main comment would be that I thought that there could be more activities going on for people.

Portelet was the home of my Mother for the last year of her life. I visited on may occasions and saw nothing but exemplary care for my mother at the home, staff were welcoming whenever visited. There was provision for activities in the living room, conservatory and garden areas, and always plenty of staff on hand to assist patients. The offer to donate my mother's piano to the care home was accepted, and it was installed in the home within a fortnight, meaning my mother, who had dementia, could access an instrument that aided her mental well being. It was also a source of comfort for us knowing others could use the piano, and this in trun assisted the staff in their care duties. The stairlift was also crucial to allow patients to move around without as much risk to themselves, and often we offered tea, coffee, cake, crisps, as a courtesy. Great work is being done at this home to make it a sanctuary for vulnerable adults, and it was obvious care staff cared beyond the call of duty there

My mum was welcomed into the home in 2024. I have never been unhappy with her care. The staff has always been friendly. My mum found it hard to fit into a home with lots of residents, where they have to be washed and dressed before breakfast. In this home, being smaller, the staff are happy to fit into my mum's routine so she is less stressed.

We will be ever grateful to the carer staff and team at Portelet Lodge for their relentless care and support.

This home has provided a high standard of care for my brother over the past 18months. He has a very complex medical history with signifcant care needs. Due to his medical condition there have been times when he has been destructive to not only his own property but of the home. Yet despite is unpredictable behaviour they have taken time to know him as a person. They find ways to reduce his anxieties, they play music that helps calm him, they care. They ensure every aspect of his room is safe. Please don't judge this care home on its decor (currently being updated) but by good leadership skills to ensure staff know the importance of giving a holistic approach to caring for individual residents. Residents become like family, they take those that are able out, even to a fast food restaurant if that's what they want to do. They build good relationships with family members and are open to suggestions to improve the overall experience for the residents. As a retired nurse I'm happy to recommend.

My mum has been at Portelet for 9 months and I absolutely can't fault it. My mum is so happy and content there, it is like a home from home. Always spotlessly clean, there is a lovely friendly and calm atmosphere and all the staff are so wonderful, kind, attentive and caring. It is very efficiently run and communication with us is second to none. My mum really enjoys the food which is very varied and her room is exactly how she wants it and very homely. As a family, we are always made to feel very welcome when visiting and could not wish for anything better. Keep up the good work!

My mother has been a resident here for over a year now, and she's perfectly happy. Manager and team well regarded.

This care home is small and intimate. It is well-run, spotlessly clean, and well-maintained. In all my frequent visits I have found the staff to show the greatest care, respect, and compassion to all the residents. Everyone there seems happy and content and that is especially so for my wife who has diabetes, dementia, and is nearly blind among other things, yet she is always well dressed in clean clothes and well groomed. I could not be happier for my wife.
