My mum has been at Cavendish for the last five years. Since the present manager has been there the dementia care has improved immensely. The home is very dementia friendly i.e memory lane, sensory room, photographs, activities. I am extremely impressed with the activities coordinator she goes above and beyond her duties as does the manager. The care staff work extremely hard and are very caring. The home comes over as friendly and very homely.

The manager, seniors, health care assistants, cleaners and chefs all do such an amazing job, I don't think I could have put my mother anywhere else, the staff work in my mums home, not the other way round. I would consider myself a fault finder and hand on heart I have not found one, the staff are loving, kind and caring. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Thank you all for looking after my mother as if she were your mother.

My brother moved into Cavendish Care Home, Gloucester in March 2016 with Dementia. He has settled in quite well. He finds the lack of freedom difficult but accepts it now. We take him out when possible. The care he receives is very good. The staff are helpful and friendly. He enjoys the food and has regular medication. He has had his hair cut and nails, bathed regularly and is now clean and presentable. All things that were difficult to achieve before.

The doctor visits regularly and he had his eyes tested. Activities are good. People have visited with animals. Exercises. They have had a fete, a day out and they are planning a trip on a boat. All since he has been there. I am quite satisfied with his care and appreciate all they do for him.

The manager and senior care team have provided fantastic support to both dad and myself since dad became a resident. Their professional advice and judgement have made the stress of moving dad into care so much more bearable. The care and compassion provided to dad by all care team members means that he has settled easily and feels secure in his surroundings. He is very well cared for both physically and mentally, and I am very pleased with the all-round approach provided here.

Very friendly staff. The registered manager and the care assistants are very caring and supportive of my mother. My mother has settled in very well and seems to be happy with her new environment, she has made friends and enjoys the activities that are laid on. The food is excellent and i am very happy that my mother has been made very welcome. Her room is very comfortable.

Mum is very happy and settled in the home. The only criticism we have is the fact that her clothes and hairbrush keep going missing even though we do all her washing, very disappointed with this but other than that we are very happy with the service, staff and home. They are doing a very good job with mum.

Reply from Kate Horsted, Director at Cavendish Care Home

Thank you for your review, and I am pleased that your mum has settled in well and that overall you are very happy with the care in the home. The points you raised have been discussed with the staff this week during meetings. The Registered Manager operates an open door policy and would be very happy to meet with you at any time should you wish to discuss anything at all.

My Father went to stay at Cavendish in June and has settled in well, mainly due to the excellent staff, they were very patient and understanding with him. They have just completed a sensory room which is lovely and very useful when Dad needs a quiet moment to gather himself. The gardens had a re vamp this summer which was great and the staff have made the garden very pretty, everyone loves to go out there weather permitting. It is a lovely home with a 'family' feel to it, it has a great atmosphere and the staff are always welcoming, nothing is to much trouble. There are lots of activities for those residents who wish to join in, the summer and Christmas fetes were a great hit with the residents and we have a trip to Prinknash this weekend. The Staff do an excellent job and are very caring, I would feel very happy to recommend this home to anyone who is looking.

Cavendish care home is managed to an extremely high standard by the registered manager who has made some very positive changes to ensure person centred care is delivered at all times. The care assistants are always helpful ensuring my granddad is treated with dignity and respect. I cannot fault the care that my granddad received.

My mother came to Cavendish when she was discharged from the hospital where she'd had a frightening bewildering few days. She had not received the compassion she desperately needed considering how rapidly her mental capacity took a dive/escalated into dementia.

The staff at Cavendish welcomed her warmly. They could not have been more attentive to all her needs. Physically in their care she is almost completely better. Emotionally though it is a joy to see how she has blossomed in their care. The registered manager and the senior carer in particular have been extremely kind and caring to all of us (her family), in adjusting to the trauma of the sudden transition from home, to hospital and to a care home.

All the staff have been brilliant. They have made a huge difference to my dads quality of life and in the process helped my dads family. My dad moved from a different care home. A mistake on our part as it has turned out, thank goodness we found the Cavendish Care Home.

Mum has had periods of respite and now permanent care with Cavendish Care Home. They have been, without fail, kind and caring treating mum with respect but being firm when they need to be. They have dealt with her doctor, social services and the hospital on our behalf and kept us up-to-date with what is happening. When she has needed additional support they have made all the arrangements for equipment so they can keep her comfortable. We're more than happy with the support she's received.

Overall Experience
In January this year (2015) my mum went to Cavendish for respite care due to her dementia becoming far worse and my father requiring a break from being my mum's full time carer. She only stayed for a short period due to her condition becoming worse and her requiring further assessment in hospital, but during this time she was looked after exceptionally well. From the very first meeting with the manager the care and professionalism given by the manager and his staff was excellent. They went out of their way to look after my Mum (who had severe dementia and extreme anxiety) and also us, as we were very upset for my mum to have to leave her home.
She was always treated with respect and we knew when one of us was not with my mum she was looked after properly and with dignity. I always felt that the staff truly cared about my mum and her well being and she was not 'just someone staying in their care home'.
The rooms and all the communal areas were always clean and tidy. The bedrooms are not large, but adequate and had all that is required to be comfortable.

The staff were always happy to discuss my mum's care needs and even when my mum's care needs increased, they did what they could to ensure she had what she required. Unfortunately as my mum's condition deteriorated she had to leave here but the help they gave my mum is not forgotten.

Cavendish has been a godsend to us. Mums dementia had got to the stage where she wasn't safe to be left alone. Her care here has been fabulous and other than her dementia she is very well for a lady of 90. The staff are all very kind to the residents and the home has a family atmosphere rather than that of an institution. The care is first class and it is clear that the staff form bonds with the residents, which all goes to making Cavendish a special place. There is also a good program of regular activities to keep the residents stimulated and entertained. The staff and management are approachable and open to ideas.

I am very happy with all aspects of mums care. She is always clean and tidy and well fed. Staff have made a real effort to get to know mum well and are always most helpful. Specifically the senior carer who mum gets on very well with and the manager who has made a real effort to transform the décor to suite the service users needs.

Excellent care from all the staff, very caring and understanding. Mum's personality has changed considerably since coming to Cavendish in a good way, she socialises very well which she didn't do before. By far the best care home I've come across in Gloucester.
