My aunt has been at Burnworthy House for close on two years and so I have been to the home on 15-20 occasions. For something like 20 years she lived in her own home in South Petherton.
Burnworthy House is the opposite of a facility set in gardens somewhere idyllic it is completely integrated into the
fabric of the village and my aunt thus enjoys the company of all her old friends. I went down to see her on Christmas day expecting the home to be perhaps lightly staffed. I felt like I was at a party. The warmth and care were as evident as ever. Well done to all the staff.

Dad has been a resident for 18 months and he is extremely happy and contented with his environment. Staff know him really well and are able to chat about personal experiences in his life as they have taken the time to get to know him. Staff show exceptional levels of care, commitment and kindness. They
are totally professional and treat residents in a dignified and respectful way. Daily activities are organised and offered to keep residents engaged and active. The staff always greet visitors and make them feel most welcome. Nothing is too much trouble. Communications and contact with staff are excellent, prompt and informative. It is very reassuring and comforting to know that dad is being looked after so well.
Thank you to all the staff at Burnworthy House

We chose Burnworthy House for mum not only because of its proximity but that we had never heard of anything bad said about it. On out initial, unannounced visit, we were greeted by a smiling member of staff who showed us around. They were very welcoming, understanding and afforded as much time as we
required.

Since mum has moved in she has received outstanding care- nothing is too much trouble. Support for the family is also sympathetic and appropriate - it is not an easy time when such decisions have to be made.

Mum is content and very fond of her carers and she particularly likes the music and entertainment.

Burnworthy greets you with a warm and happy atmosphere. My mum arrived in a confused that the happy, stimulating environment contributes to her living three months longer than expected. She enjoyed the company and there was always lots of music that she was invited to share in.

When mum's life began

to slip away, she was treated with such kindness, as was I and my family.

I think Burnworthy and its staff have the right attitude and should be used as an example of how our elderly should be treated. I have only praise and appreciation.

This home has the happiest atmosphere! Staff are (without exception) caring, helpful and kind to all residents and relatives! No query or worry is too small to be dealt with - management is involved with residents and always available to relatives. Activities are provided several days a week - not many
homes have Alpacas visiting! Rooms are small but residents are encouraged to socialise and own belongings can be used to add homely touches. This home is quite amazing (especially with Xmas decorations up now!) and I can't speak highly enough about it!

As a healthcare provider form Camada, who works in supportive housing and retirement home settings, I felt immediately at home in Burnworthy. The Burnworthy staff made me feel part of the team and included me in the "Rock and Roll" event. Thank you. Well done Burnworthy.

My mother has been a Burnworthy resident for a couple of years now.
My first time visiting Burnworthy from Canada was today for the 'Rock and Roll' event. Music from the 1920's was danced to, sung to and even quizzed about.
Staff were marvellous with their encouragement of residents to re-live their
youth.
Family and staff together danced with the residents. My wife, mother and I enjoyed it all very much.
Well done Burnworthy!

It's like a mini hotel, where all the staff are polite and friendly. Meal times are a treat, beautifully set tables, classic British 'tea time', sandwiches, homemade cakes - all served correctly. My dad loves it there, one reason, they are 'animal-friendly', Dad loves the dog who is there often. Everyone
treats my dad in a very professional and caring way. I can go back to France knowing my Dad has excellent company and care. As a qualified RGN, we are quite often difficult to please when it comes to caring for our families, but I highly recommend Burnworthy House.

My mother-in-law has been at Burnworthy House for a month now. The cheerful, professional, compassionate staff have meant she settled in very quickly. She is stimulated and now has the company she needed. In this short time her regular diet, medication and exercise have led to an improvement in her
physical well-being which is almost miraculous. I would highly recommend this care home to friends and family.

Burnworthy House has such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It is really like a 'home from home'. The whole place is beautifully clean and the care taken to promote the dining area as a bright and modern space with cloth tablecloths and flowers is outstanding. The staff are understandingly helpful to
visitors and treat the ladies and gentlemen who live at the home with great care, respect and kindness.

My mum was admitted to Burnworthy in October 2015 and received excellent care from then until her passing this month June 16. She was gently encouraged to go to activities, and she enjoyed knitting and music. The staff were very kind and during her last illness I could not fault them. They made me feel
very welcome when I stayed a couple of nights and nothing was too much trouble. My two daughters also stayed, and they would agree with me that the care and support is excellent. Thank you to the Manager and all your team. I would recommend your home to anyone.

Mum very apprehensive initially, however settled well. Thought staff very kind and happy. She certainly enjoyed the food. There were varied activities to join in with. She was able to have her hair done. She would be pleased to stay at Burnworthy again. Only we thought she would be able to shower every
day which she doe at home. I do not think this was the case at Burnworthy on this occasion.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.882)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.882) out of 10 for Burnworthy House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.882 for Burnworthy House is calculated as follows: ( (213 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 238 Ratings = 4.882
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Burnworthy House is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Manager

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, my name is Alison, and I am proud to be the manager of Burnworthy House.

My passion for care services started from an early age, as I was introduced to this career path by my late mother who worked in a residential care home all her working life and installed the benchmark I aim to work to – “would I accept this for my family?”.

I started my own career path in care in 1996 as a domiciliary care worker, and for the last 26 years I have worked various roles covering the many different aspect of care. These have included being a care coordinator, trainer, risk assessor, quality supervisor, deputy, and interim manager.

I hold an NVQ level 3 in health and social care, NVQ Level 5 in leadership for health and social care and several other qualifications including a trainer the trainer in moving and handling.

When not working I enjoy reading, going to aqua aerobics, spending time with my family including my dog (Max) and eating cake.

I look forward to meeting you and working together to make new moments and memories with you and your loved ones.
