Mum has just recently moved into Coldwells House Care Home. It is fair to say from the initial conversations regarding her move, to now just a couple of weeks in, the staff have been exceptional. They have been reassuring, understanding and kind to us during this (difficult) transition period. From
the contact and support we have received so far I can see why Coldwells is so highly recommended.
Reply from Sharon Childs, Reg Manager at Coldwells HouseThank you so much for your review which I will share with the staff. We understand fully how hard it is to move a relative into a care home and I'm glad that we aided in making this transition a little easier.

Having had previous experience of other care homes I can honestly say the care provided by the team at Coldwells House Care Home is outstanding.
There is an open dialogue between staff and relatives allowing a collaborative approach to care. Proactive steps are taken by the team to further support
my family member, working well with other outside agencies as needed. All team members are approachable and I really feel they know him well and are able to answer any questions I have with ease.
My family member lives with dementia and it is clear the team have a deep understanding of the disease and review his needs regularly adapting his care plan accordingly. Changes needed are implemented quickly.
I would not hesitate in recommending this care home.

The high standards continue which is evident in the latest inspection outcome of ‘outstanding’. The care home manager is an exceptional person and her staff team constantly reflect their loyalty to her and their appreciation of her caring management style. The manager is cognizant of the needs of each
resident and, uniquely, is able to take a holistic view of what is in the best interests of each person. Coldwells House is a very special place which I would recommend without hesitation. It is truly an extension of our own home.

My mother-in-law took a while to settle into Coldwells House Care Home due to Covid restrictions. She was treated with care by all the staff and soon felt "at home". The food was of first-class standard. Mum liked joining in with a card game on Wednesday and some of the many activities on offer. The
staff are so dedicated.

My mother has been in residence at Coldwells House Care Home for a few months now and has received excellent care. The level of care is superb and the staff are always on hand to help. The staff's level of expertise is wonderful and they are always happy to answer questions about my mum's condition.
This home is a happy home, where the staff and management make all feel welcome. I am so relieved my mum is safe and settled. These are uncertain times with Covid but I know my mum is safe and well cared for. Thank you and a Merry Christmas to all.

Coldwells House have been brilliant at keeping mum safe during Covid. Communication throughout has not been great but once the Facebook page was up and running again we felt more connected. Very expensive for what mum needs. Small room and cramped, but she is happy and well cared for and the staff are
caring.

Very recently we had a care plan review for Mum. After the restrictions due to Covid, we felt it important to catch up on Mum’s progress. They were only too pleased to arrange this on Zoom and we had more than an hour where all of our questions were answered. We were all reassured about Mum’s care.
Despite not being able to visit they have very tight procedures to keep residents safe and active. We explained our concerns (we don’t know what activities mum does as she can’t communicate well anymore) and we have a plan moving forward to help us with this. I couldn’t be happier about mum’s care. She is a member of the Coldwells House family and is very well looked after. She always looks happy and I love her new haircut!

My husband has been at Coldwells House since January 2020. He has been very happy. The care of the staff is wonderful. Unfortunately, the Covid pandemic closed the place down but I have been very happy with the communication at all times. We can now visit again and visits are well organised and hopefully,
these will become more regular. Well done to everyone at Coldwells House, it must be so difficult at these strange times.

My mother-in-law has been in the care home now for 6 years. I couldn't have asked for better care. Due to Covid-19, they have kept her safe and well, they have kept us informed about when I can visit and also put pictures of her on Facebook, so it gives me the chance to see her. They also put what activities
they are doing for the month. The staff all work hard to keep them safe, also it gives us peace of mind.

I am most impressed as to how Coldwells have responded to the Covid-19 crisis. They took the early precaution of obtaining PPE in March and instigated every precaution to eliminate contagion in the home. They used Skype when visitors were not allowed and to date have been Covid free. I feel they do
their best for the residents and their job is not always easy.

My mother has been in Coldwells now for over 2 years with dementia. Throughout this period, I have always felt that she is well cared for and her changing needs met. There are some exceptional staff working there, who show real patience and kindness. For this, I am incredibly grateful. The home is always
clean with welcoming rooms and facilities. There are lots of activities organised for residents. Any issues arising are generally resolved early.

Throughout my mother's last years spent at Coldwells, she was always treated with loving kindness and dignity. This is not an easy task when rapid dementia takes a person. The senior staff gently guided us during calm, kind meetings to discuss final care details and always helped us to keep in touch
with mum even during COVID-19. Simply, thank you.

I have been consistently impressed with Coldwells House since we made an initial enquiry on my mother's behalf in June 2017. There is a bright and cheerful atmosphere and residents are made to feel at home as individuals. The staff are professional and are clearly dedicated and caring people. They will
always find the time to address any concerns from a resident or relatives. At a time of medical crisis for my mother, we felt strongly supported, both practically and emotionally. It has to be mentioned that Coldwells have been outstanding in dealing with the Covid-19 crisis, which has resulted in zero cases of the disease to date. They have been extremely well prepared, with early policy decisions and are now more vigilant with precautions as government guidelines begin to relax. Meanwhile, their thoughtful provision of contact via Skype has meant so much to residents and their relatives.

During May 2020 the care home didn't receive visitors or entertainment of any sort. The situation regarding the virus was dealt with extremely efficiently and introduced a week or so before lockdown was declared. Management ensured all the necessary PPI was purchased in good time. Without entertainment
people being bought in, the staff stepped in, did their best to ensure residents were entertained and happy. Our friend's wound was dealt with by the district nurses and when healed the care home nurses continued to look after it successfully.
During lockdown we have spoken to our friend daily by phone and it's never too much trouble for the staff to locate despite their workload.
She is well looked after and treated with love and respect. Management and staff have done extremely well in the present circumstances..

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.901)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.901) out of 10 for Coldwells House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.901 for Coldwells House is calculated as follows: ( (314 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 343 Ratings = 4.901
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Coldwells House is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
