The Hawthorns was acquired by The Salvation Army in 1935 and has been used as a residential home since then. Over the years there have been extensive improvements to the home, most recently in 1997. The home is situated opposite the beautiful Pavilion Gardens and within walking distance from most local amenities including shops and a doctors surgery.
The majority of bedrooms at The Hawthorns have en-suite facilities and the remaining rooms benefit from a wash basin. Each room has a call bell. There are two lifts that go to all floors. There are the lounges with a TV and stereo, a conservatory, an enclosed patio and a sensory garden with well tended grounds. A hairdresser visits the home every week.
The Hawthorn's aim is to provide a variety of entertainment and activities ranging from games, quizzes and bingo to arts & crafts, music and singing. There are visiting musicians, piano players, concert parties and even Salvation Army brass bands.
At The Hawthorns it is recognised how important Christian faith and worship is to many residents. It is a Salvation Army home and aims to provide a religious programme familiar to all main Christian denominations.
