We sadly lost my father very unexpectedly and my mother has been adrift since his passing.
She was struggling with coping with basic day to day necessities, like shopping and cooking.
She first came to Youell Court in May for some respite care and we have been so happy with how well they have looked
after her. She has been there ever since and has received exemplary care and is doing so well.
I couldn't be happier with the team and the manager. They are excellent and I would throughly recommend Youell Court.

My father suffers from Vascular Dementia and as a result has no capacity for meaningful conversation or thought process.
From day one the care team have made it their business to encourage him to speak and integrate by gentle coercion. I can't speak highly enough of the staff at Holt House in Prestwich.
He
has thrived in his 12 months there and as it happens in transferring him to be nearer to me on 26th June 2025. I know it will be a sad day for everyone at this wonderful care home.

Dewdown House

from Jason S (Son-in-law of Resident) published on 20 June 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

We can't praise Dewdown House highly enough. From the moment our father-in-law arrived, the care and attention from the entire team has been exceptional. The staff are genuinely compassionate, friendly, and always go the extra mile to ensure he is comfortable, safe, and happy.

The home itself is

spotless and well-maintained, creating a welcoming and reassuring environment for both residents and their families. Mealtimes are a real highlight - the food is not only delicious and nutritious, but also beautifully presented and tailored to individual needs.

It's clear that every resident is treated with dignity, respect, and warmth. We've seen such a positive change in our father-in-law since moving in - he is relaxed, well looked-after, and surrounded by people who truly care. The views across the lawns to the beach and Brean Down are all bonuses.

Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Dewdown House. Your dedication and kindness mean the world to our family.

My aunt resisted moving into residential care as she feared the loss of privacy and independence. In fact she lost neither, with the privacy of her own room and freedom to participate in social activities and dining, and leave the home to join family occasions. She was secure, cared and catered for
and also clearly loved by the staff. After just a few weeks she regretted not having moved in much, much earlier. It is a comfort to our family that she ended her days as a happy and contented resident.

When entering Furze Hill, I am always welcomed, and when necessary, a staff member will tell me if any clothing my brother requires. The day I visited it was my brother's birthday and a cake was made to celebrate. We sat in the communal area, talking about the day. I saw a member of staff talking with
other residents and helping with puzzles. During this visit we were offered tea and coffee with biscuits. My brother is known by many staff members.

Dad moved into Furze Hill in July 2024 when he was not coping at home on his own due to increasing dementia. The staff have been very understanding about his needs. He suffered a broken hip in November and, since his return from hospital, has required a higher level of care from the staff, which has
been brilliant.

I have nothing but respect and admiration for the whole team without exception. At no point have I questioned that they want my mother's time there to be the best it can possibly be, unfortunately they are being help back by the conditions created by the building itself, it seems not possible to control
and keep an acceptable and not oppressive temperature level. The lounge in particular stands out as a problem, her own room has also been a problems. We need the Salvation Army to step up and provide the backing and expertise to rectify the building heating problem which is seriously letting them down. Any low marks only due to the building.

Reply from Jodie Hemmings, Home Manager at Furze Hill House

Thank you for your review. I am pleased to hear that you are happy with the care and support that your Mother receives. We are aware that some areas of the home can be warmer than others. We had a new boiler system fitted quite recently and have a maintenance plan in place for replacing the heating manifolds that haven't already been replaced. We have also had engineers on site to check the heating system itself. As the weather is unpredictable in terms of temperature, it is more difficult to retain an ambient temperature throughout. The Lounge in particular does get warm due to the large windows and the position of the sun towards the afternoon. Please be assured that we are aware and are taking action regarding the fluctuating reliability of the heating system. I will share your comments with the property team.

The Hawthorns

from Debbie B (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 13 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mother-in- law was with the Hawthorns for 19 months. We both can recommend this home wholeheartedly. It is a lovely building with a majestic staircase that hits you when you arrive at the door. The rooms are clean and very well maintained. Lovely furnishings and gardens. Meals are very nice and are
served in a beautiful classy dining room. It is quite intimate with each meal being a social opportunity for its residents. Throughout her time at the Hawthorns our mum was treated with love, respect, dignity and compassion. She was always cleanly dressed. The staff are really wonderful. Very kind respectful, patient and helpful. Management are very approachable, considerate and experienced and ensure the smooth running of this wonderful home. There is some form of entertainment most days. The visits from the nursery school children , the pet visits and the knitting group were all regular favourites She also enjoyed the weekly hairdresser visits.

Mum was deteriorating both mentally and physically throughout 2024. We had done all we could with home aids and carers, but whatever we did was not enough. I talked with the management at Youell Court and they couldn't have been more helpful in getting mum out of hospital and into the home. All the
staff are great. The home is clean, well managed and there is an air of calm. Mum has been at the care home for 6 weeks now and it's the best decision we have made recently.

Holt House

from Janet M (Daughter of Resident) published on 19 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mum has been a resident since November 2024. I was anxious at first about how Mum would settle after living in a family home and attending daycare. I found the staff at Holt House very friendly. As I live overseas, I thought I would feel isolated in her care, but Holt House staff are never too busy
to answer queries and hook me up by videocall to chat with Mum. I highly recommend this residential care home. Nothing is too much trouble, and the staff go out of their way to make the residents feel at home. Meals are cooked to individual preferences and at all times they relate to your questions or concerns. Holt House offers events and activities for the residents. I see Mum daily on the Holt House social media group attending the group activities and can see how lovely she looks when she has just had her hair and nails done. I am very pleased with the care and attention my mother receives and can see how well looked after she is. Thank you to all the staff at Holt House for making my mum welcome and settled.

The Hawthorns

from Kevin R (Son of Resident) published on 3 February 2025

My father has been a resident at The Hawthorns for the past three years until he passed away in January of this year. The care has been consistently excellent over this period.
The staff always knew where Dad was when I visited (without prior notification of the visit). He often spoke of the kindness
and consideration shown to him and we all appreciated the wonderful team who looked after him.
The physical care with his personal hygiene, his clothes always clean and smart, and his room neat and tidy; and also the emotional care, that he was never lonely, was actively encouraged to join team activities and able to have a chat and a laugh with his friends around him.
