My Aunty was at Bramwell for 4 years. Both she and I were extremely happy with everything that the home and staff had to offer. The staff are like angels and the home is kept so clean. She enjoyed the food, and lots of activities, she was never bored. The rooms are all well decorated and bright, all
the corridors have beautiful pictures on the walls. We loved spending time together in the Cafe and in the pretty courtyard. When it came to the beginning of the end of my Aunty’s life, they looked after me just as well as they did her. I truly couldn’t have wished for her to have been anywhere else. From the bottom of my heart, I thank them all for making my Aunty’s life so happy here.

My father in law was accepted to Bramwell House which was a massive worry to our family as we had been caring for him at home for many years. On arrival at Bramwell, we were informed there was covid in the home and he would be isolated for 14 days in his room after providing a negative test as part
of his admission terms. On the second day, we were informed that he had been sitting in the communal lounge and had in fact been eating his meals in the dining room with other service users which alone caused us as a family a great deal of concern. Other issues arose during his week at Bramwell, including lack of qualified staff to administer prescribed medication, allegations of abuse from my father in law, and what I saw with my own eyes when he was in the ambulance after a fall. From knowing a very proud man for many years, the picture of him unkempt, dirty and very frightened will never leave me. He had been left on the floor for 6 hours and was blue with cold, not even a pair of socks on. Very bad.

My dad spent one week at Bramwell House. We called every day and were mislead when told he was settled. It turned out when we spoke to the deputy that he had actually been very agitated and distressed for this time. The staff were unqualified to give the medication prescribed to my dad for this behaviour,
although I was assured they were before he was admitted. Had I have been told the truth every day when I called I could have changed the situation and not left him to suffer like this for a week. He complained of being pushed around by men when he fell in the home and was admitted to hospital. The paramedics placed a safeguarding complaint into the authorities after hearing my dads complaints and seeing marks on his upper arms. Thankfully my dad is now safe and an investigation is ongoing. Before we left the car park after dropping dad off at Bramwell we received an email requesting one month's fees upfront. We feel very disappointed with the home and their communication with us.

My mum came to Bramwell at the start of the first lockdown in March, she was very confused and suffering from dementia and of course, I could not see her until recently. The staff have been absolutely brilliant cannot praise them enough. They are always very welcoming and answer any questions I may
have and let me know by phone if I need to know anything. From the bits I have been able to see the home is brilliant looks very festive at the moment. It is like a top-class hotel.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Bramwell Care Home. Mum spent her final 18 months here until she passed away in August, aged 99.
The care and compassion she received during her time there could not have been better.
The home manager and her team were always cheerful and friendly, and always
took the time to answer our questions, no matter how busy they were.
It was a huge relief to our family to see that Mum was always smiling and cheerful when we visited. That said it all.

My husband went into Bramwell Care Home for 2 weeks respite, to give me a rest. I am his carer 24/7. I couldn't go inside because of Coronavirus. Even for a visit, we met outside. I found the staff very friendly and they gave my husband their best. He was clean, nicely dressed in his own clothes and
not at all distressed each time I saw him, in fact he sang inside and outside. Such a relief for me to see he was OK - more than OK. For someone who's been married 62 years it wasn't easy to let go. I would be happy for my husband to go in there again.

My Mum became a resident at Bramwell in October 2018. The love, care and dignity shown towards my Mum and all the residents is outstanding. My Mum was diagnosed with dementia in 2012 and had been living and receiving care in her own home so the move to Bramwell was incredibly emotional for all our
family. From the beginning the care went beyond my Mum and in incredibly difficult circumstances Bramwell made the move as smooth and easy for all our family. My Mum settled immediately and to see her laughing, happy and living a full and contented life is priceless.
My Mum was given a palliative prognosis of 12 months in March 2019, I truly believe the love and care she receives consistently from everyone at Bramwell is the reason I still have my Mum. Bramwell will become your extended family and I cannot thank the wonderful staff enough.

It's hard to overstate how good the care service has been for the past three and a half years.
Mum was treated with the utmost kindness and concern for her welfare. Kitchen staff, cleaners, carers and management have treated me as a friend, along with my family too. This has made what could have been
a rather difficult time, for the most part, an enjoyable experience.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.957)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.957) out of 10 for Bramwell Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 108 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 108 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.957 for Bramwell Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (1238 Excellents x 5) + (50 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 1291 Ratings = 4.957
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bramwell Care Home is based on 108 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 93 registered maximum number of service users is 18.6, which has been reached with 108 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
