My Aunt has been a resident at this care home for about 4 months after struggling to care for herself at home and the advancement of Alzheimer's.
Since her arrival, she has settled remarkably quickly in a lovely room and with good caring attentive staff.
The home is well kept, very clean and all
the staff and management are friendly and approachable.
The food is very good and prepared fresh on the premises.
There are games and activities on offer throughout the week.
When visiting, the home is always welcoming and feels relaxed and inviting.
My Aunt always looks very well cared for and content in her surroundings and with her friends.

Due to a family crisis we urgently needed respite for my 94-year-old father, Wingates was chosen mainly due to location, but what a great choice it has turned out to be. Within half an hour of a phone call, dad was welcomed into the home, and it is a home in every sense of the word
My father had never
been in a care home, was missing mum who was in the hospital and who in 68 years he has not been apart from.
The staff have been so caring, professional and all done with no fanfare, medication was sorted, time was taken to settle dad in, nothing has been too much trouble.
He is still in the home and my mum, brother and myself have peace of mind knowing how well he is being looked after.

The whole atmosphere of Wingates is welcoming and the staff cannot do enough to ensure residents and families are cared for and supported. All is done with patience and humour.

Reply from Nila Fernando, P A at Wingates Residential HomeThank you for taking the time to carry out a review. We know how stressful it is when a person is unwell but when both parents are unwell it must be even harder for the family.

I visited Wingates Residential Home unannounced with a view to arranging some care for my dad. I arrived to find a warm and welcoming staff who showed me around the premises and offered me a choice of rooms. It pleased me to see plenty of caring staff going about their business, all greeted me with
a friendly smile. I felt that this was the right place to bring my dad for a week's care. Nothing was too much trouble for the Senior Carer, Dan, who continued to show me around explaining the daily routine. Even the chef came to speak to me and asked if there would be any dietary preferences. I felt there was a genuine friendly and caring and calm atmosphere about the home.

During his week's stay, my dad has been treated with total care and respect. On the day of his arrival, we went to his room and the staff brought us all a cup of tea while he settled in, and staff arranged for him to have his lunch in the room. I have no hesitations in recommending this comfortable home.

My father came to Wingates Residential Home at the end of October 2016 after spending some respite time in two other homes and previously receiving care at home as his mobility had declined. Since moving into Wingates dad has settled in well and to the routine of the home. I have found the management
and staff very helpful and approachable and nothing is too much trouble for them even on occasion providing meals for family members. I would highly recommend Wingates Residential Home as a safe and secure home for an elderly person to stay in.

My mother voluntarily moved to Wingates and there enjoyed exemplary care for the last four years of her life. The family atmosphere is evident both from the personal attention given to residents and from the ways in which family and friends are welcomed. During mum's final weeks, though she spent
much of the time in hospital, Wingate's staff made every effort to keep in touch about her progress and visited her whilst she was an inpatient. When mum needed to return to Wingate for end of life care, the sensitivity, compassion and professional courtesy shown both to mum and to the family was outstanding.

Wingates is a care home that tries - and succeeds - to provide truly holistic care for its residents and a welcome to their families. I cannot praise it highly enough.

My Grandmother moved into Wingates aged 95 around 12 months ago. When we first visited Wingates it felt very homely, the staff very welcoming. The Senior carer showed us around. All the staff were friendly. During her time there staff have been wonderful, and the PA always there offering sound words
of advice, giving us time when we needed it even if she was in the middle of something else, and very approachable as were all staff. The Chef is so kind, his food delicious, Grandma had a soft spot for him & the senior carer. Another senior carer and too many others to mention were so good with her and us. It was a comfort.
Sadly 22/03/16 Grandma passed away. In the days leading to this staff were amazing, not only keeping her comfortable with dignity but looking after us, her family. Nothing too much trouble, even supplying regular meals & drinks. Their kindness & care meant more than words could express. Much as Grandma was feisty & a character the staff coped beautifully & were loving, above and beyond just a job.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.586)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.586) out of 10 for Wingates Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.786 for Wingates Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (113 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 140 Ratings = 4.786
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wingates Residential Home is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 12 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
