Staff very caring and efficient.
General cleanliness of residents, communal areas and bedrooms is excellent

The organisation of activities such as hairdresser in house resident parties for birthdays etc and entertainment are also very good.

My mum has been a resident of Avonleigh Gardens for the last 5 years. She has always been very happy here the staff are amazing always going above and beyond regardless of job title always being treated with the utmost respect. My mum also loves her food and she never has any complaints often commenting
on the gorgeous cakes. I call in the home nearly every day and I'm always made to feel welcome and greeted with a smile. One day last week I called in and my mum was very anxious. She was sat with a member of management who had taken time out of her busy day just to sit and have a chat and reassure her. Nothing is too much trouble a this lovely home.
Reply from Yvonne Reilly-Cooper, Home Manager at Avonleigh GardensThank you for your very kind comments, staff will be thrilled. Mum is a pleasure to look after, and each staff member knows that on certain days all she needs is that bit of extra reassurance. Your Mum is part of our Avonleigh Family.

My grandmother has been a resident for years and has received excellent care at Avonleigh. The staff and manager take really good care of her and have a good understanding of her needs (she has dementia and can sometimes be difficult when she is confused).

Very professional thoughtful and caring staff. Was overwhelmed with the amount of caring and attention given to my family member. If I could give this care home ten stars I would. Also so much time given to visiting friends and family members. All questions and answers given. And followed up on. Absolutely
the perfect care home for anyone wanting to find a home from home for their loved ones. Superb. Cannot recommend this home enough.

My mum has been a resident at Avonleigh for 3 years. The team are caring and respectful and go out of their way to give residents dignity and respect. They find ways to bring joy to residents like bringing farm animals to meet them, arranging events and bringing Santa in for festive cheer.
Can’t thank
them enough for their support.
Reply from Yvonne Reilly-Cooper, Home Manager at Avonleigh GardensThe staff will be thrilled with your very kind comments, they always go that extra mile to ensure that they always give the best possible care. We love seeing our residents enjoy additional activities within the home.

Mum had been a resident here for the past ten months, until sadly passing away quite recently. During her stay here we cannot praise and thank the staff enough for their endless care, dedication and friendship towards Mum (who loved a good gossip and a chat). Mum would be encouraged to take part in
regular activities, and enjoyed sitting outside for a read. Staff had good communication as we were always kept informed of any issues regarding Mum's care. We visited regularly and were made welcome by all staff who always had time to talk to you. There are signs of dedicated teamwork throughout and a clear understanding of our older generation's needs. Mum's room was bright and comfortable, with a garden view, and regularly cleaned (along with the obligatory chat). We were encouraged to bring whatever was needed to make Mum's room her own. Meals were always a hit with Mum, with a fabulous selection of homemade meals and cakes. Mum would always speak highly of all the staff. Thank you.
Reply from Yvonne Reilly-Cooper, Home Manager at Avonleigh GardensThank you for your kind words regarding all the staff at Avonleigh. It was an absolute pleasure to look after your mum, she was a lovely lady and will be very sadly missed by all. We like to think that all our residents and families are an extension of the Avonleigh family.

I cannot begin to thank each and every one of the staff for the amazing welcome they have given to my mum and dad. The friendly and kind culture is a natural part of everyday life throughout the home. 2 members of staff conducted thorough person-centred assessments showing real compassion and interest
in my parents' well-being, interests and family history. The rooms are spacious and modern with en-suite bathrooms including en-suite and wet rooms. The food is all cooked from fresh with plenty of choice. My mum has enjoyed the singing, the Church service and the quiz. A particularly talented care worker has built up a great relationship with my dad already and worked with him to improve his mobility. A member of staff in particular in the office is always really helpful and ensured a smooth admission and was happy to assist with the paperwork. Everywhere is spotlessly clean. Myself and my sister have every confidence our parents will be safe, happy and cared for.
Reply from Yvonne Reilly-Cooper, Home Manager at Avonleigh GardensThank you for your extremely kind comments on this review. The team will be thrilled with these lovely comments. It is wonderful to see how happy they both are living here together. We all work hard as a team to ensure that we aim to give the best possible care to all our residents. It is our pleasure to care for Mum and Dad here at Avonleigh Gardens.

My mum has been a resident at Avonleigh Gardens for over 4 years. She has a lovely room which is cleaned on a daily basis. We were encouraged to bring some of mum's personal items into her room which she could relate to. Staff and management work great as a team and are very welcoming to all members
of the family. Staff have treated my mum with love, respect and dignity and encourage her to be independent with her choices. They have great homemade food and cakes and a daily menu provided by great chefs. They keep us informed of mum's progress and do reviews on a regular basis. We as a family are more relaxed knowing mum gets great care provided and is in such a loving home. Thank you so much for the continued support and care from all the staff at Avonleigh Gardens it is very much appreciated.

My mother lived at Avonleigh Gardens since early 2018, during her stay there I cannot praise all the staff enough. They are all loving, caring and wonderful individuals. The activities that the home provide are wonderful and stimulating from the ukulele lady to the various singers and musicians they
have performing on a regular basis, the home also offers other art and crafts, and bingo, cooking activities. Mum has recently passed away and the care and compassion both she and the family received was exceptional and it made her final last days for myself a lot easier.

My Dad has been in Avonleigh Gardens for over five years and is now in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's. He has always received the most attentive, personal care from all members of staff. The staff at Avonleigh Gardens can only be described as dedicated, professional people who work together like
a family to look after all the residents. They really do deserve recognition for what they do on a daily basis. I can't thank them enough for what they have done for my Dad. An example of this dedication and personal care was noted by the Nursing staff at the hospital when a staff member accompanied my Dad for an outpatient hospital appointment. It was the most wonderful review which described how professional the staff member was in dealing with my father's dementia so the appointment could take place with ease. A true example of personal dedication to the role as a carer as the staff member came in on her day off to take my Dad there as I now live in London. Excellent. So well managed.
Reply from Rachel Bowers, Home Manager at Avonleigh GardensThank you so much for this lovely review. The staff are caring and dedicated, and this review is a credit to the hard work and compassion they show every day. It is a pleasure for us to care for Dad here at Avonleigh Gardens.

I am confident that my mum is safe and cared for. We had to move her from her home quite quickly due to a rapid deterioration in her sight and increasing anxiety/disorientation. This was not an easy thing to do but the manager and staff went out of their way to help make this as smooth as possible.
Mum has not found it easy to adjust but any issue we have raised (such as lighting in the bathroom) has been taken on board and dealt with. The activities manager has tried to get mum involved and the music therapist has made a special arrangement to devote some 1 to 1 time with mum to tap into her music skills. There are one or two areas we think would make life less stressful for mum such as; care staff understanding problems caused by a lack of sight and adjusting how they respond to her needs (I have suggested that the sensory team would be able to offer some training in this) and a fully functioning chaplaincy service. I have found the majority of the staff to be friendly and helpful.
Reply from Rachel Bowers, Home Manager at Avonleigh GardensThank you for submitting this review. I shall pass on your lovely comments to the team. We aim to ensure that we offer the best support we can and work with our residents and family members to enhance a sense of well-being. We fully understand that the adjustment period can be difficult, and varies for each individual resident. It is a pleasure to care for Mum here at Avonleigh Gardens.

I cannot praise Avonleigh Gardens and the staff enough. Years ago my Dad was a resident there and the care and love he received was instrumental in our decision to put Mum in there 5 years ago (she's now 95 years old and very frail). The staff have treated Mum with care and respect and been so patient
with her (even though she would try the patience of a Saint at times!) They are also great at keeping us informed and up-to-date on how Mum is doing. The home is lovely and welcoming, very clean, the food is lovely and the residents are so well looked after. It's also a testament to the way the home is run that they have had very very few cases of COVID throughout the pandemic. The staff are all doing a great job and we would like to send them our thanks and appreciation from all the family.

Although it was an emotional and upsetting time when my mum went into care, the staff at Avonleigh Gardens have been absolutely brilliant in helping my mum settle in, feel comfortable and relax in the friendly environment. They were also very reassuring to my family. During the Covid pandemic, we’ve
managed to communicate and see my mum via FaceTime and Avonleigh have been very obliging in helping us stay in touch. I’ve found the home very efficient on Covid regulations but still maintaining a caring and friendly attitude through these difficult times. I only have admiration for the home and staff. Fantastic team.

I brought my Mum to Avonleigh on a strong recommendation from a friend who had her Mother happily living there. We have never regretted our choice. Due to a series of illnesses and an unfortunate house fire she had spent quite some time in and out of care homes, none of which were comparable to Avonleigh.
She is allowed her independence, some of her own furniture and is safe, warm and cared for in every way. There is a wide spectrum of daily activities covering everything from Bingo/Cookery/Craftwork to visiting choirs. All residents are actively encouraged to participate. The staff do indeed deserve medals for all their kindness and outstanding care, the events co-ordinator I feel deserves a special shout out. She is tireless and amazing.
The COVID situation is handled sympathetically and visits by 2 family members allowed now.
The food is outstanding (my Mum can be quite picky, but she loves it). She is very happy and has made some lovely friends. This brings me peace of mind.
Reply from Yvonne Reilly-Cooper, Home Manager at Avonleigh GardensMany thanks for your extremely kind comments about the staff at Avonleigh, we are delighted that your Mum is settled and part of the Avonleigh family. I know that the kitchen staff will liaise with your Mum over her food. Mum as built up an excellent relationship with our Activities Co-ordinator. Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.932)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.932) out of 10 for Avonleigh Gardens is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 36 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.932 for Avonleigh Gardens is calculated as follows: ( (402 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 428 Ratings = 4.932
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Avonleigh Gardens is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 59 registered maximum number of service users is 11.8, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
