My mum has been a resident for a long time. Staff have always given her the best care, love and compassion. The home is decorated lovely for Christmas with parties and there are always lovely activities to keep her entertained. Although Mum's health is poor, staff are alert and act quickly and professionally
when she is ill. I really don't think Mum would still be with us if it wasn't for their care. It's such a comfort to know she is safe and cared for so well.

Unhappy with treatment of my mum during two years here. Management are unhelpful and appear uninterested. Refusing to speak to family when my mum left saying "too busy". Some staff very nice and caring some need a lot more training in my opinion. An air of "can't be bothered' was often noted. Cleanliness
was not to a good standard and laundry service leaves a lot to be desired. Can't comment on food as not able to visit at meal times but I think it was fairly good.

My husband moved in as a respite resident in August and became permanent in October, I keep in regular contact with the staff and we visit most days.
I have spoken to the team leaders regarding any issues I have and they do their best to sort out any problems that we have.
I cannot comment on the
manager as I have not really had any dealings with her, in fact, I haven't really met her.
I feel, as in any situation, some staff are better than others and definitely go the extra mile.
I cannot comment on the activities as I haven't seen any taking place in the care home, apart from the music sessions, that may be because my husband doesn't want to participate.
I must say that he has settled very well and seems happy in the care home and I am very grateful and relieved about that.

I have found all staff courteous and respect all residents. Residents are treated with respect and dignity. Residents are always dressed, hair combed, and all look very well looked after. Staff seemed to have a great relationship with each other and the residents. Entertainment seems well attended and
everyone joins in with singing and dancing. Men have an afternoon pie and pint and ladies enjoy afternoon tea. The home always has a welcoming feel and is very clean.

The staff here are simply outstanding and make Birkenhead Court a special place. My dad was treated as an individual and the warmth and humour of the staff who cared for him is exactly how I would want to be treated myself. My dad enjoyed the meals and staff were always making an extra effort to organise
nice activities, like barbecues and games afternoons. When I spoke to staff they were always well-informed and able to tell me how Dad was doing without having to go off and find out first, this showed me how attentive and in touch with the residents they are. Many of the staff have worked here for a long time and in my opinion, this shows that they have a dedicated team who are happy in their work. Staff made a point of stating how Birkenhead Court is, first and foremost, home to the residents no matter how long they stay for and every effort is made to ensure that they feel safe, comfortable and cared for.

The care home is well-run and managed.
Staff are friendly and kind.
What particularly impressed me is that every carer knew my mum by name.
Thank you for doing such a good job.
The manager is a great manager and really helpful when it came to customizing my Mum's room. And another staff member
was great at the handiwork to make the room more familiar for Mum.

Overall, excellent. The staff are professional and caring. Any specific problems are notified to me, as I have power of attorney for my brother, and any matters we raise are addressed sympathetically. All of this is important as we currently live in another part of the UK and it is very reassuring,
given his condition and age, that he is well looked after at Birkenhead Court.

Care home has been fab for Mum who has dementia. The facilities are clean and tidy, and the staff are great, and caring with Mum, who I'm sure can be a handful at times. Mum seems to have really settled since being here. I have no concerns for her care.

As a family, we have always been happy with the care Mum has received at Birkenhead Court. From my first visit, looking for a safe place for Mum to live and several years on, I am still happy with the care and love shown to Mum by the staff. The care home management team have always been available for
any queries. The food and drink has always been very good. The cleanliness of the home and bedroom is very good. One concern I do have is regarding the cleanliness of her fingernails, which sometimes have excrement under them from her scratching herself. I am happy with Mum's safety/security at the home, which is giving value for money.
Reply from Helen Thomas, Home Manager at Birkenhead CourtThank you for taking the time to review Birkenhead Court. Your feedback is gratefully received. We are really pleased you are happy with the care your mum receives with us and I will make sure your kind words are passed on to the team. As discussed, we will increase our checks on your mum's hands and nails to ensure she remains comfortable.

My nan has been a resident since 2015. Her care has always been exemplary, she is well looked after by caring staff. Any new needs are identified quickly and actioned quickly. I would recommend Birkenhead Court to friends and family if they were looking for 24-hour care for a relative.

My mum entered Birkenhead Court in mid-September. On arrival, I found the staff to be immensely welcoming, thoughtful and kind and that has never changed.
Birkenhead Court is very clean and tidy, where residents are kept safe and well cared for.
There are always enough staff on duty who treat the
residents with total dignity and respect, the staff have good interaction with the residents and are responsive to their every need.
There are activities during the day with their craft work on display for every occasion.
My mum has her hair done, her nails are manicured and painted and has regular visits from a chiropodist. Her medication is well-managed and reviewed on a regular basis. My mum enjoys the food, especially the fish and chips.
My mum has made many friends already and is very happy here, I have complete confidence my mum is well cared for, it is very reassuring to know my mum is in such good hands.

This is the first year my nan has been away from family and in care.
It was nice to see how well-engaged the residents were at Christmas time and how accommodating the staff were on Christmas Day.
The level of care and engagement I have seen since my nan has been a resident has been second to none
and I have found this to be really reassuring. Thank you.

My mum has lived at Birkenhead Court for six years and has been extremely well cared for. The staff are kind and caring to our family as well. We are always kept up to date regarding her welfare. She is very frail now and the staff have ensured that everything is in place to keep her safe and comfortable
and seem willing to go the extra mile. I visited many homes before choosing Birkenhead Court and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place for their loved one.

Excellent home. We couldn't be happier with how they look after our mum. In a short space of time, they built a relationship with her and got to understand her needs. The activities are great and they always encourage everyone to take part. Nothing is too much trouble. They put my mind at rest.

My mum has been a resident for a long time. The staff are responsive to her needs and I belive treat her with dignity and respect. The only issue I have is with her underwear; it is always going missing despite me buying many, many items. Sometimes the night staff do not put her bra on, which is not
acceptable. That said, I am very happy with her care and the home.

The care home is always clean and tidy on arrival. The staff are all so very lovely to the residents and the home seems to be managed very well with everything running smoothly. We reviewed several homes before we chose Birkenhead Court, as the overall package was far superior to the others. Since my mother has been at the home, the staff looking after her have been excellent, especially when she fell over and injured herself. The care she received was second to none. The home
itself is always clean. The food is always excellent and varied. I would recommend the home to everyone. Now my mother has settled in, she is happy, has her own room, and we as a family are impressed with the service.

My father has been at Birkenhead Court now for 3 months. I didn’t think he would ever accept any kind of care but the staff have done everything to make it feel like his home and he loves it.
From the first time we looked around and every day since we as a family have been made to feel welcome and
part of his care. I feel that staff genuinely care about the residents and get to know them.
Dad spends a lot of his time in the lovely garden and has already been on a few outings.
I would highly recommend Birkenhead Court to anyone looking for residential care of a person with dementia.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.699)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.699) out of 10 for Birkenhead Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.699 for Birkenhead Court is calculated as follows: ( (258 Excellents x 5) + (58 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 332 Ratings = 4.699
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Birkenhead Court is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
