Our mother can no longer do anything for herself. 'This is what we are here for' says the manager. I would say the staff work very hard to attend to Mother's needs and do so with diligence and care.

My mother went into Starr Hills for two weeks respite care. She has said that she will be happy to go back again at some point in the future.
The manager worked hard to acquire a suitable bed to enable my mum to be able to go, which was very much appreciated. The staff and other residents were very
welcoming to her on arrival and very kind to her during her stay.
My mum enjoyed the wide variety of good food and enjoyed taking part in the activities. As a daughter, it was good to be able to relax knowing that Mum was being well looked after.
Reply from Phillipa Green, Home Manager at Starr HillsThank you so much for your review. We appreciate your feedback and are so happy your mum enjoyed her stay. We look forward to seeing you again.

I would like to thank the management, staff and residents for the care that I received at Starr Hills following my recent surgery. During my two weeks, the stay and the service were excellent, which was a great help for my return to my own home to start returning back to normality. Many thanks, once
again.
Reply from anthony lyons, manager at Starr HillsThank you for your very kind words. There is nothing that gives us greater pleasure than to see someone getting back on their feet and able to get home. It was lovely to have your company during your stay.

I spent five weeks on respite care at Starr Hills. With care and encouragement from the staff, my health improved considerably during that time. Any concerns I had were dealt with promptly and satisfactorily.
There were different activities in the lounge every day, which catered for a variety of
interests.
Most of the residents seemed happy and well cared for, and the home, in general, was immaculately clean.
The food was good and plentiful, and although I was the only vegetarian, the kitchen staff were happy to cook me something different if I couldn't have what was on the menu.
Although I was only on respite care, at the end of the five weeks I was sorry to leave, having made some lovely friends among the residents and staff alike.

My grandmother stayed for a short period of respite at Starr Hills during November.
From the very first phone call to the manager, I was made to feel that they and their staff were there to help. They completely took the worry away and immediately set up a plan of care. My grandmother was transferred
the very next day and was settled into a very comfortable room.
She came on in leaps and bounds, having fabulous food and care, her hair done (which made her feel ‘human’ again) and joined in many activities and talks.
We, as a family, can’t thank the staff enough for all they have done; everyone has a smile and the time to stop and exchange a few words. And may I also add, a lot of very sound advice and useful information.
Many thanks to all those who helped my grandmother gain her strength and return to independent living.
Reply from Anthony Lyons, Manager at Starr HillsThank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to do the review. It was an absolute pleasure to have your Grandmother with us. To see her blossom and get back on her feet was a joy. We will miss her, but know that she so wanted to get back to her own home, and we are just happy to have been able to help her achieve her goal.

A uniquely wonderful home, vibrant with a sense of community, positivity and purpose. The care is carried out with friendliness and dignity, whilst the activities programme is a thing to behold! Importantly, those intangible yet important spiritual aspects of life that make all the difference are catered
for to an outstanding degree here, which is a part of what makes Starr Hills unique in this area.
Reply from anthony lyons, manager at Starr HillsThank you for your very kind comments. My mother has been there for seven years and I think Starr Hills and the staff are wonderful.
I would not hesitate in recommending Starr Hills and thank them for looking after my Mum so well. The food is good and the entertainment is excellent. Everyone is friendly and caring and I think we are very
lucky to have found such a wonderful care home.

My mum has been a resident in Starr Hills care home since January and also had a few respite stays previously. The staff are all truly wonderful, kind and patient. I live over 250 miles away and I know she is so well cared for, content and happy. The manager does amazing things for the residents, music
and entertainment. Mum has a better social life than me!

Starr Hills is an excellent care home. The staff are most helpful and very friendly. The residents have a lovely choice of meals as the menus are rotated which is a great idea.
There are numerous activities which they can all join in, also a lovely big garden to sit out in when the weather is kind.
Reply from Tony Lyons, Home Manager at Starr HillsThank you so much for your very kind comments. It was lovely that you could visit for Dad's birthday and make use of the garden for a visit, we feel very fortunate to have this facility, and that our families have somewhere they can safely have time with their loved ones.

Starr Hills staff go the extra mile in terms of care and affection. Care, environment, catering and activities are excellent. I am so pleased my Mum is a resident there, even more so during this difficult time when our family are not able to visit due to our own personal situations, health and location
wise. We admire the increased efforts for enabling contact with Mum in Zoom calls, streaming religious services on YouTube, posting updates and fab photos of fabulous in-house activities on Facebook. We are truly blessed with the staff.
Reply from Tony Lyons, Home Manager at Starr HillsThank you so much for your kind comments. I will certainly make sure that the staff are made aware. We have done all we can to make sure that everyone can stay connected, and it is so worth all effort when we see the joy and happiness that our residents derive from being able to communicate with their families. The boost that mum gets from your chats is lovely to see.

My dad is very comfortable and happy in Starr Hills. The staff support him brilliantly and work hard to encourage him to engage and meet his needs. The excellence of the home, care provision and general and support services is clearly apparent.
During the current restrictions, arrangements have been
made for me to video call instead of visiting.

I have peace of mind that my Father is being well looked after in Starr Hills. He enjoys the food and there are activities that he can join each day. He has been prone to falls and the management and staff have implemented a falls prevention plan and have maintained this. It's a lovely welcoming and
friendly home with caring and approachable staff who go the extra mile. The staff have always addressed any concerns I've had. As a family, we get information and are included in meetings etc and the staff have made provision outside for us to meet my Dad within the Government guidelines re Covid 19. It's a super home!

Starr Hills has been a perfect home for my second cousin. The staff are friendly, caring, very competent and the staffing levels are first class. The members of staff have obviously taken time to get to know the residents and this shows in their understanding of individual needs and the easy relationship
between staff and residents. Food is excellent and the menu varied. The home is always very clean and comfortable. The programme of events and talks for the residents is first class and my second cousin particularly the history talks.
Reply from Tony Lyons, Home Manager at Starr HillsWhat a lovely comment. We are very lucky to have such lovely caring staff. With the help of our activities co-ordinator and our chaplain, we have a rich and varied programme of events. But as you say the food and cleanliness is top rate as well, which I think shows the commitment from all our team to give the residents the best experience we can.

My Mum lives at Starr Hills. Given her age and physical fragility, I was very concerned about the outbreak of the Coronavirus and especially how it would affect residents of care homes. I was delighted by the response of the manager and the staff. Their vigilance at such a difficult time was exemplary
and I am delighted with how the team handled the crisis. The fact that there have been no cases of Covid at Starr Hill is not an accident, it is because the right people with the right management were in the right place and I am very grateful to them all.
Reply from Tony Lyons, Home Manager at Starr HillsThank you so much for you kind words and support. It has been a challenging time for all of us, but I agree with you that the team has gone above and beyond, and I could not be prouder of them, but we could not have achieved what we did without the co-operation, support and good humour of our lovely residents.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.914)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.914) out of 10 for Starr Hills is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 39 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.914 for Starr Hills is calculated as follows: ( (427 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 463 Ratings = 4.914
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Starr Hills is based on 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 39 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
