How and where to begin to describe the kindness and loving care my late Wife received at The Hawthornes? The Staff looked after her for a year and a day when I could no longer give her the care she needed, the hardest decision I ever made but in all that time, she never stopped laughing/smiling/and
responding positively, behaviour, which, I'm told is rare in a Dementia/Alzheimers sufferer. I visited every day and latterly, enjoyed meals too and I was always included in the celebrations and events, parties and more. I am convinced that the care she received helped maintain and sustain her during her long and hard battle and it certainly gave me strength too. I will never forget The Management and all the Staff, Day and Night, and they will always be in my heart and thoughts.
Reply from Paul Millar, Marketing Manager at The HawthornesDear Mark, many thanks for taking the time to review our home. We are so sorry for your loss, it was our privilege to care for your wife and she is sadly missed. This beautiful testimonial is greatly appreciated and I will of course pass your words on to The Hawthornes family.

I have put my mum in The Hawthornes care home after a bad experience in another one and even though it’s only been two weeks I can safely say the difference is unbelievable.
Not just for mum but for our family, they have welcomed us with open arms and embraced mum.
I have met all the staff and all
of them are brilliant.
Mum has a smile on her face these days and with living with vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s that’s not easy.
All I wanted for mum was to give her a bit of kindness and attention and she has that in The Hawthornes.
Always have the time of day for the families and the residents which means everything to us.
Thank you for putting my mind at ease knowing mum is being treated with respect and is safe and well and looked after.
Reply from Paul Millar, Marketing Manager at The HawthornesDear Chrissie, many thanks for taking the time to review our home. It is our privilege to care for your mum and we are delighted that she has settled in so well. Your kind words are greatly appreciated and I will of course pass them on to The Hawthornes family.

Mum really enjoyed her stay and didn't have a bad word to say about any of the staff who were excellent with her throughout her stay.
She definitely wouldn't hesitate about staying again when needed.

My grandma had been living at The Hawthornes for the final few months of her life and whilst dementia meant that she often did not know where she was, the care and support she received made her feel at ease and at home. Thank you for all of your attentive care and for always going the extra mile to
make our grandma and us comfortable.
Reply from Joanne Davy, Home Manager at The HawthornesThank you for your lovely review, it was a pleasure to care for your Grandma in the last few months here at the Hawthornes. I will pass your comments on to the staff team.

Very impressed with the care and support given to my mum and our family. Mum settled in quickly and her quality of life improved greatly. From being bedbound for nine months, she was encouraged to walk with the aid of a walker and regain her dignity.

Sorry to say this will be my final review as my mother passed away, but up until that day, management and all the team gave her all the care, and emotional support for us and have towards my mother, for which I will be eternally grateful. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for all they have done
for the past and present residents. Good luck and happiness to all for the future.

Mum was at The Hawthornes after a spell in hospital and we did not know of them before this. I cannot express how great they have been. They were very helpful with Mum and her needs after hospital and she had a great time living there. The staff were all lovely with her and the phone was always answered
quickly, when I was in touch. Mum was very happy with the food and often managed to get an extra dinner when she was hungry later at night! We were given a welcome pack, which I note was in a previous comment, and this gave lots of information about activities and food. We had a number of medical issues with Mum and the staff dealt with this great, as they happened. We had a couple of bug issues due to the hot weather at the time and these were dealt with immediately, just one of those things the home had little control over.
Reply from Paul Millar, Marketing Manager at The HawthornesDear Lyndsey, many thanks for taking the time to review our home. All feedback is welcomed and allows us to continually develop our service. Generally, a very good experience. I feel it would be better if a welcome pack was available as I found out how things work, a bit at a time. Some staff are excellent and others could do with some support or more supervision. They can be very short of staff on occasions. Mum is looked after well and
the staff are very kind, when there. The phone is answered quickly and information is passed on in a timely way. The decor is getting tired in some of the areas.
Reply from Jo Davy, Registered Manager at The HawthornesThank you for your comments, we now give handbooks to families as residents move into the home, we try our best to fill staff shortages as they happen but this does not happen regularly. We appreciate your feedback and we aim to improve areas where we can.

My father was in The Hawthornes and because he became more frail (mentally) it was best for him to be placed in a nursing home, we as a family were very upset and the staff in The Hawthornes went above and beyond to keep my father in The Hawthornes. He, with all their help and support was able to stay
there! It's like a real home and the staff treat the residents and their family like their own families.

Whilst I have only been here three weeks (three weeks still to go), I have been entirely satisfied with the care provided. The staff have been very helpful and have treated me with respect. I was very pleased that there is a hairdresser here. If I had to have care home help again, I would certainly
choose to come here. Finally, I was satisfied that the management helped and sorted out problems with hospital appointments for me.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.416)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.416) out of 10 for The Hawthornes is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.416 for The Hawthornes is calculated as follows: ( (222 Excellents x 5) + (74 Goods x 4) + (19 Satisfactorys x 3) + (10 Poors x 2) + (14 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 339 Ratings = 4.416
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Hawthornes is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2020

I have over 30yrs experience in Social care with the last 17 years as a registered manager.

I achieved the Registered manager's award, NVQ level 2
I have previously held the positions of Deputy manager and Care assistant.

I am continually working to improve standards and aim to achieve a better CQC rating for our home, additionally, I aim to build on our community presence and increase our reputation and recommendations.

I have worked in care since I was 17 years old and have seen so many changes over the years but the only thing that has not changed is to believe to treat people with dignity, respect and compassion. This includes Residents, staff, families and friends, I have an open and transparent relationship with all, and my door is always open. I mentor my staff to listen to our residents so we can engage them and help give them the best.

I love to spend my spare time with my Granddaughter, I like reading, cooking and the odd shopping trip.
