My father moved into The Hawthornes on 24th December 2022, even though it was a difficult time to leave his home, he seemed happy and content the minute he arrived, thanks to the homely and friendly atmosphere they create at The Hawthornes. All staff are pleasant and caring and a few staff go above and beyond in the love and care they give to their residents. The atmosphere always felt free and easy and residents felt comfortable moving around and making their own choices. Thank you to all staff.
Dear Peter, many thanks for taking the time to review our home. It is our pleasure to care for your father. Your kind words are greatly appreciated and I will of course pass them on to the Hawthornes family.
The shower is the most horrendous thing I have ever come across. You sit on a commode in a flood of water. There's no place to put clothes etc. It is just awful, quite frightening people come in to use the loo! Food could be quite a bit better, quite a lot actually. I think £950 a week for lemon curd sandwiches is a bit naughty. Fortunately, the staff are very kind, willing and helpful.
Dear Joan, many thanks for taking the time to review our home. I will of course take the points raised and discuss with the home manager who will discuss in detail with yourself.
How and where to begin to describe the kindness and loving care my late Wife received at The Hawthornes? The Staff looked after her for a year and a day when I could no longer give her the care she needed, the hardest decision I ever made but in all that time, she never stopped laughing/smiling/and responding positively, behaviour, which, I'm told is rare in a Dementia/Alzheimers sufferer. I visited every day and latterly, enjoyed meals too and I was always included in the celebrations and events, parties and more. I am convinced that the care she received helped maintain and sustain her during her long and hard battle and it certainly gave me strength too. I will never forget The Management and all the Staff, Day and Night, and they will always be in my heart and thoughts.
Dear Mark, many thanks for taking the time to review our home. We are so sorry for your loss, it was our privilege to care for your wife and she is sadly missed. This beautiful testimonial is greatly appreciated and I will of course pass your words on to The Hawthornes family.
Not just for mum but for our family, they have welcomed us with open arms and embraced mum.
I have met all the staff and all of them are brilliant.
Mum has a smile on her face these days and with living with vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s that’s not easy.
All I wanted for mum was to give her a bit of kindness and attention and she has that in The Hawthornes.
Always have the time of day for the families and the residents which means everything to us.
Thank you for putting my mind at ease knowing mum is being treated with respect and is safe and well and looked after.
Dear Chrissie, many thanks for taking the time to review our home. It is our privilege to care for your mum and we are delighted that she has settled in so well. Your kind words are greatly appreciated and I will of course pass them on to The Hawthornes family.
She definitely wouldn't hesitate about staying again when needed.
Many thanks for taking the time to review our home. It was our pleasure to care for your mum. Your kind words are greatly appreciated and I will of course pass them on to The Hawthornes family.
My grandma had been living at The Hawthornes for the final few months of her life and whilst dementia meant that she often did not know where she was, the care and support she received made her feel at ease and at home. Thank you for all of your attentive care and for always going the extra mile to make our grandma and us comfortable.
Regards
Very impressed with the care and support given to my mum and our family. Mum settled in quickly and her quality of life improved greatly. From being bedbound for nine months, she was encouraged to walk with the aid of a walker and regain her dignity.
Thank you for your kind words and your Mum is sadly missed. I will pass on your feedback to the staff. Regards, Jo and the team.
Perfect place for my parents. The staff are fabulous and nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommend this care home.
Many thanks for your kind words and I will pass your comments on. Regards, Jo and the staff team.
Spot on.
I know that if I needed help there would be someone there for me.
Many thanks for taking the time to review our home. Your kind words are greatly appreciated and I will of course pass them on to the manager and the colleagues at The Hawthornes.
When my mum was taken back to the care home from Huddersfield Royal Hospital, she was on end-of-life care. The staff were incredible, doing everything they could to make her last hours as comfortable as possible.
Many thanks for taking the time to review our home. Please accept our sincere condolences for your loss, it was our pleasure to care for your Mum. Your kind words are greatly appreciated and I will of course pass them on to Jo and The Hawthornes colleagues.
Mum has just spent her first month in The Hawthornes and seems to have settled well. She enjoys the food and the banter with the staff. Her room is comfy and clean and meets all her needs.
Thank you for your lovely comments. From Jo and all the staff team.
Sorry to say this will be my final review as my mother passed away, but up until that day, management and all the team gave her all the care, and emotional support for us and have towards my mother, for which I will be eternally grateful. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for all they have done for the past and present residents. Good luck and happiness to all for the future.
Many thanks for your lovely, kind, thoughtful words and it was a pleasure to look after your Mother. Don't forget, the door is always open for coffee.
Mum was at The Hawthornes after a spell in hospital and we did not know of them before this. I cannot express how great they have been. They were very helpful with Mum and her needs after hospital and she had a great time living there. The staff were all lovely with her and the phone was always answered quickly, when I was in touch. Mum was very happy with the food and often managed to get an extra dinner when she was hungry later at night! We were given a welcome pack, which I note was in a previous comment, and this gave lots of information about activities and food. We had a number of medical issues with Mum and the staff dealt with this great, as they happened. We had a couple of bug issues due to the hot weather at the time and these were dealt with immediately, just one of those things the home had little control over.
Dear Lyndsey, many thanks for taking the time to review our home. All feedback is welcomed and allows us to continually develop our service. We are delighted that your experience was such a positive one. Your kind words are greatly appreciated and I will of course pass them on to Jo and The Hawthornes colleagues.
Warm welcome. All the staff are very pleasant, lovely calming place. Dad is settling in well. The senior carer is amazing with Dad and family keeping us all informed and updated. Spotlessly clean.
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback and we are glad your Dad is settling in so well. Many thanks, Jo and the team.
Generally, a very good experience. I feel it would be better if a welcome pack was available as I found out how things work, a bit at a time. Some staff are excellent and others could do with some support or more supervision. They can be very short of staff on occasions. Mum is looked after well and the staff are very kind, when there. The phone is answered quickly and information is passed on in a timely way. The decor is getting tired in some of the areas.
Thank you for your comments, we now give handbooks to families as residents move into the home, we try our best to fill staff shortages as they happen but this does not happen regularly. We appreciate your feedback and we aim to improve areas where we can.
All the staff are very good and professional.
Dear Malcolm. Many thanks for taking the time to review our home. All feedback is welcomed and allows us to continually develop our service. I will of course pass on your kind words to Jo and the Hawthornes colleagues.
Happy, kind staff. Made Mum feel very comfortable. The covid outbreak was handled with efficiency. All family members were treated with sympathy and generosity when our mum sadly passed away. The kindness of all the staff was very much appreciated, thank you. (Only complaint - no ashtray outside!)
Many thanks for taking the time to review our home. We are deeply sorry for your loss. Your Mum was a pleasure to care for and I know she is sadly missed at The Hawthornes. Your kind words are greatly appreciated and I will of course pass them on to Jo and the colleagues at the home.
My father was in The Hawthornes and because he became more frail (mentally) it was best for him to be placed in a nursing home, we as a family were very upset and the staff in The Hawthornes went above and beyond to keep my father in The Hawthornes. He, with all their help and support was able to stay there! It's like a real home and the staff treat the residents and their family like their own families.
Thank you so much for your feedback and we are happy to help maintain the care given to your Dad. Thanks again from myself and the team.
Whilst I have only been here three weeks (three weeks still to go), I have been entirely satisfied with the care provided. The staff have been very helpful and have treated me with respect. I was very pleased that there is a hairdresser here. If I had to have care home help again, I would certainly choose to come here. Finally, I was satisfied that the management helped and sorted out problems with hospital appointments for me.
Dear Mary, many thanks for taking the time to review our home. All feedback is welcomed and allows us to continually develop our service. We are delighted that you have settled in so well, it is our pleasure to care for you. Your kind words are greatly appreciated and I will of course pass them on to the manager and the colleagues at The Hawthornes.
Hawthornes care of my father was excellent. We feel his health has improved back to nearly how he was before being welcomed into The Hawthrones. We would definitely highly recommend.
Thank you for your lovely review and your kind words from all the team at the Hawthornes.

I have over 30yrs experience in Social care with the last 17 years as a registered manager.
I achieved the Registered manager's award, NVQ level 2I have previously held the positions of Deputy manager and Care assistant.
I am continually working to improve standards and aim to achieve a better CQC rating for our home, additionally, I aim to build on our community presence and increase our reputation and recommendations.
I have worked in care since I was 17 years old and have seen so many changes over the years but the only thing that has not changed is to believe to treat people with dignity, respect and compassion. This includes Residents, staff, families and friends, I have an open and transparent relationship with all, and my door is always open. I mentor my staff to listen to our residents so we can engage them and help give them the best.
I love to spend my spare time with my Granddaughter, I like reading, cooking and the odd shopping trip.
