Magnolia House, in the leafy suburb of Cottingham, is a wonderful, residential home for the elderly offering exceptional respite and day care services.

A recent resident led refurbishment has given the home a top-to-toe makeover including stylish new décor throughout and en-suite 'wet-rooms' for every room.

With a home from home atmosphere and relaxing environment, additional new features include a new main lounge area with spectacular garden views. Residents enjoy tasty, nutritional food.

All carers are trained in personalisation methods, getting to know the needs of each individual resident.

A dedicated activities co-ordinator organises a variety of leisure pursuits, therapies, entertainments and outings to stimulate, inform and brighten the day for the residents and staff.

My nan was only in Magnolia House 3 months before she passed away but the care all the staff gave my nan was amazing they always gave her dignity, respect and a high quality of care you brought us sunshine in our darkest days, nothing at all was too much trouble. You always brought a smile to Nan's
face, she loved you all. As a family we cannot thank you enough for all you have done for us throughout the 3 months Nan was with you. You are all a credit to Magnolia House and we would not have got through these tough times without you. Each and every staff member is amazing with pure passion. You made us feel like part of the Magnolia House family as well as helped us make lasting memories with Nan. Thank you Magnolia House for being outstanding but most of all for being the beautiful people you are.

The support when my mother was suddenly needing care was really helpful at a difficult time. The management responded quickly and helpfully to my initial enquiry, and were able to sort a room taking account of my mother's wishes. Once there the care staff showed compassion and support and made it as
good as possible, for both my mother and our family when visiting. It was lovely to see their kindness and professionalism.

Dad was a resident at Magnolia House for seven weeks for end-of-life care. I cannot express enough what a lovely place this is. The whole team are fantastic; they looked after Dad so well. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The staff took care of all Dad's needs with such kindness, dignity and respect.
I cannot thank them enough. As his family, we were welcomed with the same kindness; it felt like we'd known everyone for ages. I would not hesitate to recommend Magnolia House to anyone who needs residential care.

This is the second time we have used Magnolia House Care Home for respite for my mum, I can't thank the lovely carers enough, all really kind and could relax knowing my mum was having the best care.

My mum has been in Magnolia House for six and a half years. The care has been excellent. The staff have been incredibly caring and I'm sure the care made my mum very comfortable. Any concerns that I had over the tears (very few) were catered for by the well-run home.

While the overall experience is good, there are some weaknesses, particularly in communication. As next of kin to a resident, i have not always been informed of, for example, medical problems and in one case the necessity for a hospital visit and the date in which discharge back to the home occurred.
With my visits being ad-hoc and not at regular times, I have, albeit infrequently, a lack of courtesy in speaking to the resident, particularly at mealtimes and I get the perception that perhaps a lack of available staff on some occasions leads to pressures on the staff at, for example, mealtimes. It does not seem to always have fixed mealtimes and the main meal menu appears to be limited, or not fully explained as to the choices available. My cousin says it is not always fully explained as to the medication she is given after hospitalisation or a doctor's visit. The flexibility for visiting is to be commended and the activities available for those who wish to take part, are very varied.

The standard of care and compassion given to my uncle was beyond any level of expectations.
The carers treat him like one of their family and was given the respect as such.
The home is well laid out, warm and welcoming.

So pleased with how well my mum is being cared for. She was neglected whilst in hospital but within a couple of days of being at Magnolia House, they had her washed, dressed, sat up, a hair cut and all her matted hair brushed and sorted. Mum seems very settled and the brilliant care is reflected in
her happier moods. Her room is very clean, the staff very caring and understanding, and there is not a single thing I could fault the home for.

When I first looked around this care home I was very impressed. The rooms were spacious and with great views. The manageress was extremely polite and helpful. The staff are fantastic in all ways. My dad looks very well and receives outstanding care. I asked the staff to do something for my dad, it was

I have no hesitation in recommending Magnolia House. My mother became a resident in March 2022, originally for respite care that turned into residential care. High standards of cleanliness throughout and a pleasant environment in all areas. A real plus is the stability of the staff, enabling a thorough
and consistent understanding of Mum's care needs. Management is approachable and straightforward, sensitively guiding through some difficult decision-making. Mum left at the end of January to relocate to a care home nearer to her family. If there had been an option to remain in Cottingham, Mum would have happily continued to reside at Magnolia House.

At first, I found it all a bit unsettling and bewildering. My stay was only going to be two weeks, but this is now my third week. Lindsay Altoft

Job Title: Manager

Lindsay is one of life’s all-rounders! She began life with Park Lane Healthcare working in the accounts department, handling all the residents’ families’ queries, fee payments, bills we had to pay and a myriad of other things too. She even used to organise all our special award days that our top performing staff receive for their efforts, many of which go way beyond the call of duty. If all of this was not enough, in her own time she studied at Lincoln University and gained a degree in social work, such was her calling for looking after the elderly and vulnerable in society. All of this led to her joining our regional team, ensuring our homes were compliant in all aspects of care delivery and it seemed the most natural thing in the world to place her as manager at Magnolia House when the position became vacant. Although a large home and with its large challenges, Lindsay works tremendously hard at all times to ensure that every resident feels that little bit special.
