While she was in your care, she was reasonably happy, clean and healthy until the last few months when her body shut down. The carers, cleaners and all staff were great helpful and professional.
Dad was a resident at Magnolia House for seven weeks for end-of-life care. I cannot express enough what a lovely place this is. The whole team are fantastic; they looked after Dad so well. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The staff took care of all Dad's needs with such kindness, dignity and respect. I cannot thank them enough. As his family, we were welcomed with the same kindness; it felt like we'd known everyone for ages. I would not hesitate to recommend Magnolia House to anyone who needs residential care.
Thank you so much for your heartfelt review. Your dad, even though he was with us for a short time, has left a lasting impression on all of us. He was a true gentleman and will be missed by us all.
My mum has been in Magnolia House for six and a half years. The care has been excellent. The staff have been incredibly caring and I'm sure the care made my mum very comfortable. Any concerns that I had over the tears (very few) were catered for by the well-run home.
While the overall experience is good, there are some weaknesses, particularly in communication. As next of kin to a resident, i have not always been informed of, for example, medical problems and in one case the necessity for a hospital visit and the date in which discharge back to the home occurred. With my visits being ad-hoc and not at regular times, I have, albeit infrequently, a lack of courtesy in speaking to the resident, particularly at mealtimes and I get the perception that perhaps a lack of available staff on some occasions leads to pressures on the staff at, for example, mealtimes. It does not seem to always have fixed mealtimes and the main meal menu appears to be limited, or not fully explained as to the choices available. My cousin says it is not always fully explained as to the medication she is given after hospitalisation or a doctor's visit. The flexibility for visiting is to be commended and the activities available for those who wish to take part, are very varied.
The carers treat him like one of their family and was given the respect as such.
The home is well laid out, warm and welcoming.
Nothing is too much trouble for the carers. Visitors and Residents are treated like friends and families, a very homely environment
So pleased with how well my mum is being cared for. She was neglected whilst in hospital but within a couple of days of being at Magnolia House, they had her washed, dressed, sat up, a hair cut and all her matted hair brushed and sorted. Mum seems very settled and the brilliant care is reflected in her happier moods. Her room is very clean, the staff very caring and understanding, and there is not a single thing I could fault the home for.
When I first looked around this care home I was very impressed. The rooms were spacious and with great views. The manageress was extremely polite and helpful. The staff are fantastic in all ways. My dad looks very well and receives outstanding care. I asked the staff to do something for my dad, it was done with no problem. Communication from Magnolia House is first class, I am always kept informed of anything. Would highly recommend this care home.
The home is very welcoming, the care staff are lovely and nothing is too much for them.
I feel happy and confident my uncle is well looked after here.
A member of staff was great with communicating my dad's health during covid. So thank you.
In the eleven months my mum was a resident at Magnolia House she received exceptional care and the staff and management went above and beyond. Also, the support we received as a family during my mum's end-of-life care, we will be forever grateful, thank you to everyone.
I have no hesitation in recommending Magnolia House. My mother became a resident in March 2022, originally for respite care that turned into residential care. High standards of cleanliness throughout and a pleasant environment in all areas. A real plus is the stability of the staff, enabling a thorough and consistent understanding of Mum's care needs. Management is approachable and straightforward, sensitively guiding through some difficult decision-making. Mum left at the end of January to relocate to a care home nearer to her family. If there had been an option to remain in Cottingham, Mum would have happily continued to reside at Magnolia House.
Food is very good, plenty of it.
The staff give their help promptly and cheerfully.
I found there were lots of changes to my lifestyle. Getting into a different routine at meal times. Overall getting my food consumption into a routine as I have lost lots of weight, and the staff were brilliant in my increase in my buildup.
No problems. Staff are always very pleasant and helpful.
I would highly recommend Magnolia House. The quality of care is second to none. Staff are always helpful and are caring. The home is always clean and never has the horrible smell associated with many care homes. I always find the management are approachable and will to be flexible. Overall, I would certainly recommend Magnolia House to anyone.
At first, I found it all a bit unsettling and bewildering. My stay was only going to be two weeks, but this is now my third week. I have nothing but praise for the staff, who all seem dedicated to their job. There is nothing that is too much trouble. They will do anything for you, but at the same time, you are encouraged to do things for yourself.
During my father-in-laws time in Magnolia House, he was very happy with the care given by the staff. His health improved since arriving at the home due to nursing care and good food. Unfortunately, he had a large stroke and passed away. Thank you all for your care with/for him.
Could not ask for more.
I love the outside environment.
Meals are prepared with care and the food is very good.
I have made good friends, who make a major difference to live with. Good staff and friends you make here.
I came to Magnolia House after a prolonged hospitalisation. I found a welcoming and caring atmosphere. My room is comfortable and warm and I am able to have personal items displayed etc. I have an ensuite facility. I have access to medical care when needed. Night care is particularly good - reassuring. Magnolia is in the village where I lived for 18 years and friends are able to access easily.

Meet the Team (1)

Lindsay is one of life’s all-rounders! She began life with Park Lane Healthcare working in the accounts department, handling all the residents’ families’ queries, fee payments, bills we had to pay and a myriad of other things too. She even used to organise all our special award days that our top performing staff receive for their efforts, many of which go way beyond the call of duty. If all of this was not enough, in her own time she studied at Lincoln University and gained a degree in social work, such was her calling for looking after the elderly and vulnerable in society. All of this led to her joining our regional team, ensuring our homes were compliant in all aspects of care delivery and it seemed the most natural thing in the world to place her as manager at Magnolia House when the position became vacant. Although a large home and with its large challenges, Lindsay works tremendously hard at all times to ensure that every resident feels that little bit special.
