At the time Dad started daycare at Magnolia House, we knew we had finally accepted that we and particularly Mum, could no longer give Dad the amount of care he was beginning to require and that a more permanent set up would be required. All the staff and particularly the manager, were really patient, caring and reassuring for my mum and myself at this emotional time. It was baby steps to start with, but as time progressed we all got into routines and felt more relaxed. For every step of this journey, we've known all the staff involved in Dad's care have had great patience and have been very caring, and although he can't articulate it, I'm sure he appreciates their care and support. It is this total 'care package' around the whole family that is the essence of Magnolia House. Family members are consulted and respected, ensuring a mutual trust which results in the best of care and provision.
She is very pleased with her room, especially the en-suite facilities and the view. She feels the staff are like an extension of her family, as they are always patient, encouraging and smiling. The family feel well informed and we are kept up to date on any changes in Mum's health and the staff are quick to respond to any queries we might have. We have been very impressed with the way the home has handled the COVID-19 crisis, keeping the residents safe whilst still giving them the opportunity to go into the garden and have video calls with their families.
Over the course of her stay all the careers and staff went out of their way to make her feel cared for and respected. She had activities, outings and other residents for company and we always felt she was safe and cared for. We always felt we were communicated to very well, especially as her health deteriorated and we could always just pick up the phone if we had any questions.
The room was large enough so we could talk to her in room and the gardens were excellent when the weather was nice as well.
The atmosphere is one of calm, yet it was nice to see the energy and competitiveness of quiz night and other games.
Overall we were very happy with her stay and would recommend.
She has been there 2 and a half years now and is very happy. Her carers really look after her and everyone is very helpful.
During this difficult time, it's hard not being able to see her properly, but I understand why, and Magnolia are keeping me up to date which what they are doing.
The video calls with her are good, not as good as seeing her and giving her a hug, but I know she is safe and as happy as possible.
Thanks for keeping them all safe!
I can honestly say hand on heart that the answer is yes!
Since my grandma has been with Magnolia House, she has been so happy, her whole demeanour has changed, she has company all day long, the staff are fantastic and arrange activities for the residents to participate in. Grandma has her nails painted, hair done and always high in spirits when we see her.
Since lockdown has happened, we can not go to the care home to see Grandma, however the activities coordinator and her staff have arranged weekly video chats with Grandma, so the family can keep in contact with her. It’s lovely to be able to talk; it’s reassuring to always see her jolly.
As a daughter who lives in the south, all the staff have been so helpful in enabling my dad and me to speak on the phone, send photos and FaceTime each other. The staff are always helpful, and they deal with my father’s complex needs with care and patience.
My mum originally went into Magnolia House a few years ago for respite, and she liked it so much she asked us the family if she could stay. The staff here are lovely, and she likes them all very much. They are all great with her, she is well cared for and always looks clean and happy. It's a lovely, friendly, well-maintained place where she can watch TV as well even go to the gardens their beautiful grounds even got a duck pond, which she loves. There is also plenty of activities to do if you so wish to join in, even got a good hairdresser.
This is a brilliant care home. The staff really care about the residents. Staff are doing their utmost to keep residents safe and protect them at this very difficult time. The staff are very caring, and it offers a very warm environment for both residents and their family.
It has a very warm and homely atmosphere, and I am extremely satisfied with the care and support she receives. Mum is well settled and content. All the staff I have been in contact with are very professional, kind caring and friendly. Nothing is ever too much trouble, and they always make time to speak to you with any questions you may have. I would not hesitate to recommend Magnolia House to others.
We are unable to visit due to the pandemic, but during this time, we have been in regular contact, and everyone is doing an amazing job keeping our loved ones safe.
My Grandma has been a resident at Magnolia House for nearly 5-years. It broke my heart that she had to leave her own home due to Alzheimer's. But the continuing care, love and support she receives from all the carers and staff at Magnolia has proved it was the right choice. The recent refurbishment in the home is good, the rooms are nice, and they have lovely gardens for the residents. Can’t thank them enough for all they are doing to keep the residents as safe as they can during this current worrying time. Looking forward to when we are able to visit again.
Genuine thanks for looking after my relatives, meeting their needs and remaining friendly and professional at all times, it takes a special kind of person to do your job.
This breaks my heart, but I am comforted knowing that without a doubt, my dad is getting the best loving care possible and is happy.
The team at Magnolia House have become dads and my extended family.
Thank you, my friends, I appreciate everything you are doing and cant wait to see everyone again. Keep safe and strong.
I highly recommend Magnolia House to anyone looking for a safe and happy home from home for a relative. My sister and I looked at lots of care homes and chose just a few to visit. After spending some time in there speaking to staff and residents, we were perfectly happy that this was the one for our Mum. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble and the residents all looked very happy. It isn't easy having to let a relative live in a care home setting, but we instantly felt comfortable with this one. It's the staff that make this place so good; they are attentive and all very caring and happy people. We have peace of mind knowing that our Mother is being cared for brilliantly. Especially at the moment with the Coronavirus and lockdown, we see photos and videos online of what they are up to, colouring, dancing and singing etc. The staff are working so hard to keep their residents healthy and very importantly, happy during this awful time. Thank you.
Our dad needed a care home urgently in the early weeks of the emerging Coronavirus crisis so he has joined in an extremely difficult period for him and the staff. As yet we have been unable to visit him due to lockdown, however, all the staff at Magnolia House have been extremely professional, kind and caring. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We have been able to keep in touch via regular video calls that have been invaluable in keeping contact and reassuring Dad as he adjusted to his new home. Magnolia communication is excellent, seeing pictures of your loved ones online and the happy environment that the staff and residents share is great to see. Even though strict controls and PPE, etc. have been in use making it a very unnatural environment to the normal routine, everyone has been fabulous in helping make Dad as comfortable and happy as possible. We are looking forward to being able to visit him when safe to do so in the near future.
My dad was 80, suffering from chronic heart and kidney failure, he was bi-polar and very frail. He was a retired Director of Social Services and lived in the North East with his wife (my step-mum). When she died it was time to bring him back to Hull to be close to the family. Because of his job, and the fact that his pension would cover all of the costs, I wanted him to have the best care money could buy. I checked a lot of homes before bringing him to Magnolia and I had absolutely no doubt that the atmosphere, warmth and standard of care were the very best I’d found in Hull. From my very first walk around I felt he’d be happy and cared for - and that feeling continued throughout his stay. Staff and residents alike all seemed happy, friendly and we were always greeted with warmth and good manners. It was so good to know that friendly professional staff were treating him with intelligence, respect and kindness. I would happily recommend Magnolia House to anyone - thanks Magnolia House.
Hi Matthew, on behalf of Lindsay and all at Magnolia, it was our pleasure to look after your dad. Thank you so much for your comments. As with your email to Lindsay recently, I will ensure this is printed out for all staff to read, as it will bring smiles to their faces. Thank you again. Anthony.
Generally a very friendly and caring atmosphere. Food could be more varied and cooked a little more, veg is a bit too hard. Would prefer female night carers.
My wife and I feel the care that our relative has had whilst being at Magnolia House has been first class. She is happy and has a very good rapport with the carers who develop very good relationships with the residents. We manage to visit a lot so we see a great deal of what is going on and always enjoy going in as we receive a warm welcome from the staff and a lot of the residents. The premises are warm, comfortable and clean. There are very regular meal times with other food and drinks available in the day.
My mother-in-law has been living at Magnolia House since January 2020. Unfortunately, she has vascular dementia and after lots of heartache, we had to take the difficult decision to move her into residential care and chose Magnolia House after a lengthy search. We are very happy with the care and support given to her as well as to ourselves. My mother-in-law was very reluctant to leave the home she had lived in for over 50 years. However, I am delighted to see her thriving, much happier and less anxious, she has made friends and settled in well over a short period of time. The staff are professional, caring and warm which has had a marked improvement on my mother-in-laws mental and physical wellbeing. A staff member recently escorted her to a family funeral with other members of the family attending telling us of the great care given to her on a difficult day. I would highly recommend a visit to this care home if you ever find yourselves in a similar situation to ours.
We have found the team at Magnolia House most welcoming and helpful. The home is bright and airy with a beautiful secure back garden and a relaxed atmosphere. The rooms are clean and presentable. The carers and support staff are attentive to the resident's needs and always willing to look at ways to improve the quality of life of the residents. The recent introduction of groups of young children spending time with the elderly residents seems to be a huge success for all concerned- what a wonderful idea. The activities programme is varied and well received and the home is very well led by a caring and knowledgable manager and her team. Thank you Magnolia staff.
Magnolia House is a very clean, pleasant and welcoming environment. The staff take the time to make you feel welcome, are always available to answer any queries and hold lots of weekly activities and varied events throughout the year.
Overall as a family, we are very satisfied with the care given to my mum, she is always clean and well presented. Her mood is good and she appears to be happy and content in her new environment.

Meet the Team (1)

Lindsay is one of life’s all-rounders! She began life with Park Lane Healthcare working in the accounts department, handling all the residents’ families’ queries, fee payments, bills we had to pay and a myriad of other things too. She even used to organise all our special award days that our top performing staff receive for their efforts, many of which go way beyond the call of duty. If all of this was not enough, in her own time she studied at Lincoln University and gained a degree in social work, such was her calling for looking after the elderly and vulnerable in society. All of this led to her joining our regional team, ensuring our homes were compliant in all aspects of care delivery and it seemed the most natural thing in the world to place her as manager at Magnolia House when the position became vacant. Although a large home and with its large challenges, Lindsay works tremendously hard at all times to ensure that every resident feels that little bit special.
