It’s no wonder this home did so well in its inspection, it is first class. My aunt is so content and settled. She is busy and occupied every day. The staff work hard to give the residents a really good quality of life and for that, I am truly thankful. The home is always spotlessly clean and every staff
member is cheerful, they all seem to go out of their way to make us all very welcome.
Reply from Laura Barnsley, Home Manager at Willersley House

Thank you for your review, it's so nice to see your Aunt so happy following all her initial problems. We are all so pleased that she has settled into the home and regained a real zest for life. She has a better social life than we do!

My mother was a resident at Willersley House, Willerby for a few weeks before her death. The care she received was second to none, and I cannot recommend the home and the staff highly enough.

My mother in law has been extremely well cared for at Willersley House for well over a year now and has a really good quality of life. She is very well liked by the staff and has really started to come out of her shell and enjoy all the fun activities on offer. Very recently she has been on day trips
out to local parks and coffee shops with other residents. They have many photographs in well-organised files showing the family what a great time she is having. I cannot thank them all enough for all the great work that they are doing.

My granny has come on in leaps and bounds since being in Willersley House. She was pretty difficult to look after when she first arrived however with the help of the team, she now enjoys day trips to local parks and coffee shops, and joins in the activities with the other residents which would've seemed
impossible when she first arrived. She has a great quality of life at Willersley House and she's always making everyone laugh with her strong personality and sense of humour, which must mean she's having a good time. Thank you for looking after her so well.

My nana has been in Willersley House for nearly 3 months. She came directly from hospital following a serious illness and was very poorly. Within a few weeks, the staff at WH had worked their magic. She started putting on weight, her pressure sores were disappearing, she was clean, comfortable and so
very well cared for. 3 months down the line she looks amazing. The staff here are just brilliant I can't praise them enough. To be able to visit my nana (this weekend I've even bought her great grandchildren up) and see her relaxed and happy after so many years of struggling at home is a life changer. She can enjoy family visits without any stress. All the staff at WH should be commended for the time, effort and care they show to the residents (the carers, the cleaners, the chef and the catering team, the chaplain, the social coordinator, the therapists, office staff, managers, the hairdresser....the list goes on). Thank you all for taking such good care of my nana, she is very precious to us.
Reply from Laura Barnsley, Home Manager at Willersley House

Thank you, Dianne, our staff are thrilled with this review. A few kind words can really make our staff's day and to know that they have made a difference to your nana's life is amazing. I have been absolutely delighted with the care my mum has received at Willersley House. It was a massive move giving up her home and independence, but I need not have worried. The staff are so kind and considerate and have made my mum feel at home from the first time she entered the front door.
She
enjoys the food, the daily activities, the twice weekly services, and the time spent on her own in a lovely ground floor room, overlooking the garden.
I enjoy visiting her there and know that she is in safe hands.

I came to Willersley House 5 and a half months ago and feel that I have settled well. On arrival, I received sensitive help and encouragement from the staff in coming to accept the loss of my own home and independence. I am always treated as an individual and can pursue my former interests and hobbies
as far as health and mobility allow. I enjoy the wide range of activities provided 'in house' as well as outings and entertainment and activities by visiting groups, volunteers etc. I am fairly capable at present but have no fears about the future as I see the compassionate care which is given to older, more frail residents. This is a friendly, caring community. Family members can visit and are made very welcome at all times.

Oh Phyllida, what an amazing review, you have made our staffs day just knowing that they are appreciated and feel so valued within their roles. Thank you for your massive contribution to the home, you help us out and give up your own time to assist the staff with their day to day chores and for this, we are extremely grateful. Knowing that you are so happy makes our jobs so much more worthwhile.

My mum has only recently moved into Willersley House but I have found the home to be of an excellent standard. The place is spotlessly clean and very well maintained. My mum's room had a new carpet and furniture ready for her moving in. All the staff have been brilliant with my mum and have made her
feel at home. There is always something going on and it's the next best thing to her own home. The cooks are so good and the food that comes out of the kitchen is amazing.

From being shown around to moving mother in we have been made to feel very welcome and nothing seems too much trouble from the handyman to the office workers all have been helpful.
Yesterday we attended our first function for residents and relatives. The sun shone while we enjoyed the very tasty picnic
prepared by the cook. If that is the standard the residents enjoy they are very lucky.

Everybody there is fantastic. I know not to use names- the care workers are brilliant. Nothing is ever too much trouble for any of them. The food is excellent by the lovely chef who cooks for anyone's needs. We take our pet dog and all the residents love her, people are so friendly and the home is very
clean and big with no smells. If anybody needs this and is looking for a short or long term stay I really cannot fault it. The chef will even cook for any visitors to the home and us for free.
Reply from Rebecca Blakeston, Senior Care Assistant at Willersley House

Thank you for your kind comments, it truly means a lot to all the staff! It makes a wonderful change when visitors bring in their dogs, the other residents respond so well, regardless of their health conditions and its a welcomed addition for the staff also.
Thank you for your comment regarding the high level of cleanliness, our domestic team work hard to ensure the home is to a high standard at all times.
The kitchen staff will be happy also with the comment regarding the food, they work hard to accommodate everyone's needs and preferences, which can be a task in its self. Thank you once again!

Willersley House is set in very pleasant surroundings which can be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike during the summer months. Speaking from my own experience (I visit at least twice a week) visitors are made most welcome by the staff. The residents are always encouraged to join in with activities
which are numerous and various enough to suit all tastes (the coffee and biscuits always help as well) and you are never pressured to leave. Regrettably, over the last 30+ years, I have visited people in 4 or 5 care homes, none of which compared favourably with this one.
Reply from Laura Barnsley, Home Manager at Willersley House

Thank you. I will pass your appreciation on to the staff team, the activities coordinator will be especially delighted that the activities have been mentioned as she works so hard to include all the residents. She does try to ensure that every day our residents, all of different abilities, are able to participate with others and to hopefully give them a sense of accomplishment.

My mother has lived here for 4 years. The care has been excellent, adapting as her needs have changed as her health and mobility have declined. The surroundings are pleasant and well maintained. Staff are caring and considerate of each resident's needs. As far as possible a real "home from home".
Reply from Rebecca Blakeston, Senior Care Assistant at Willersley House

Thank you Greg for your kind words. The staff work hard to ensure that person-centred care is delivered all the time regardless of the situation or health requirements. Caring for your mother is a pleasure despite inital teething problems four years ago. Staff soon identified her likes and dislikes and we as a team overcame this together. Sadly my Dad passed away on 2nd May 2017 after living at Willersley House for over 6 years. We found the home very clean, well maintained and with a friendly atmosphere. As a retired local preacher, my Dad appreciated the weekly church services and the pastoral care given by the Chaplain as well as
other organised activities. The dedication and care given by all staff were excellent and, although very busy at times, always found time to answer any questions or concerns that we had. The staff at the home did everything possible to ensure he remained at Willersley House as his condition deteriorated and he began to suffer from falls, with the management team keeping us informed of any concerns regarding his welfare and arranging meetings to discuss strategies to reduce such incidents.
When end of life care was needed my Dad was treated with utmost dignity and respect and the well-being of family members present during this emotional time was dealt with compassion by all staff.
Reply from Rebecca Blakeston, Senior Care Assistant at Willersley House

Thank you for responding Peter, we all send our love to you and your family at this difficult time. Thank you for acknowledging the care standards that all residents receive, we all ensure that residents receive person-centred care at all times, including end of life care. It means a lot when relatives see the hard work that we, as a team give. At times like this it can be a tough job and emotionally hard but its rewarding and we feel like we have made a difference.

I find this residential home as one of the best I have visited. The staff are always welcoming, helpful and caring towards the residents. I have visited a lady for over three years who had to come to Willersley House when she could no longer remain physically in her own home. She was mostly on the ball
up until she passed away. She was happy at Willersley House and if had a grievance always found the staff available to sort the matters out. I also visit another friend who has dementia and I find the staff most caring towards her as well.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.037)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.037) out of 10 for Willersley House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.337 for Willersley House is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) + (41 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.337
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Willersley House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
