With a team who are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents, Cedar Court provides residential, dementia, nursing and palliative care. They also provide rehabilitation and pre-bookable respite care breaks.

The home is very much at the heart of the local community. School children often pop in to take part in activities and singing. There is regular entertainment from singers, musicians and choirs, and the local church run regular services for the residents. And there are trips out in the home’s minibus, from pub lunches to garden centres and shopping.

There are so many activities to enjoy, from pamper sessions, with manicures and hand massages to animal visits, with everything from snakes and tortoises to rabbits and dogs. And a stone’s throw from the coast, residents often enjoy walks along the harbour.

The home has lots of bright and airy spaces to enjoy, from the lounges, where residents enjoy activities and spending time with loved ones, to the dining rooms, where they enjoy delicious home-cooked meals prepared by the chef. From roast dinners with all the trimmings, to fish and chip Fridays and lighter bites such as home-made soups and freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea.

The residents love to get involved in ‘foody’ activities, baking and cake decoration, making pizzas and pies. And there is always a special menu for special occasions, from afternoon tea to themed nights.

Loved ones, who are welcome at any time, are embraced into life at Cedar Court. There are regular relatives’ meetings and a private family and friends Facebook page, where relatives can see what their loved ones have been enjoying doing, even if they can’t be there in person.

The gardens are wonderful, with wheelchair friendly pathways and raised beds, for residents who enjoy gardening.

Cedar Court also has a beautiful hair salon, for weekly appointments with the mobile hairdresser.

My father has been a resident with Cedar Court Care Home since June 2025. I am really impressed by some of the Carers that look after him. In particular Debbie and Becky have shown exemplary kindness and care for him. They have actively encouraged him to eat, shower and shave, despite Dad on occasions
being reluctant to do so. Speaking to Becky, it's obvious that it's an act of love for the residents that she enjoys supporting them. Becky is a Carer and goes beyond caring to creating activities for Dad - to engage him. The Activities Managers seem to be less interested in spending time with residents on the Dementia unit. If they did so, they too may be able to encourage my Dad to do more activities. The Activity Manager has apparently been doing the role since they were 17, yet they could take a leaf out of Becky's book and engage more with the dementia residents. The space on the dementia unit isn't great and it defies being equitable as non dementia residents have a lot more space.

My Mum is always clean, warm and well fed, her room is cosy and clean and the staff always make a fuss of her and make her feel safe! The activities are too class as are the social events that take place regularly slowing families to be part of the day!

My dad has been a resident at Cedar Court for 4 years.
In that time the staff have shown both him and our family, how the care they provide is done so with patience, consistency and attentiveness.
My dad has settled really well. He loves the staff even when he's in a difficult mood!
We know he's
well looked after, he's always clean, well fed and there is always something to do. The entertainment and events the residents have put on for them is fantastic.

When my mother came to this home,I was very pleased with the way she was greeted, she was totally at ease straight away, she was greeted by the manager and admin 1st then taking up to her room, when in her her room staff came and introduced them selfs then offered her tea or coffee and some snacks,
whist visiting nothing was to much for the staff, she is totally happy there im so pleased we made this decision.

I am raising urgent and serious concerns regarding the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of residents at Cedar Court Care & Residential Home Seaham. Based on what I have personally observed, I believe the service may be failing to meet multiple CQC fundamental standards, and that residents may be at immediate
risk of harm.

Safeguarding Failures
I witnessed situations that strongly suggest residents are not being adequately protected. These included unsafe supervision, delayed responses to residents in distress, and staff interactions that did not demonstrate an understanding of safeguarding responsibilities. These incidents indicate a potential breakdown in the home's safeguarding culture.

Unacceptable Quality of Care
The standard of care I observed was well below what should be expected. Basic needs were not met promptly, residents were left without support, and staff engagement was minimal. Several residents appeared distressed or uncomfortable without timely intervention. These issue

My husband has been in the care system since July 2025 with dementia and Alzheimer's, his 1st nursing home couldn't help him unless he was almost asleep! I was offered a placement for my hubby at Cedar Court Residential and nursing home, and after my 1st viewing, I knew this was perfect for him. The
staff are wonderful, they go above and beyond to help, nothing is too much trouble, and my husband isn't always asleep now, he's awake, happy and mixes with other residents! We've been married 55 years and never been apart before, so I was dreading being on my own for Christmas! Cedar Court invited me to be with my hubby for Christmas lunch, the meal was beautiful, a 3 course lunch!

My grandad was there for 2 weeks and over that time he was always stuck in his room, only had water or a cup of tea when family member asked. He got really depressed and withdrawn. It is a big joke. We had to move him to a different care home. We moved him to another home which is the same company but
there is always staff avalible and he eats in the dinning room with other residents and in lounge. Avoid cedar court. Don't let any family member go there ever. Staff from cedar court seaham need to learn from staff the other home in way of respect to residents and listen to what the residents say to them. The management at Cedar Court Seaham is disgraceful.

I don't write reviews normally but on this occasion I feel I must if only to let other people know what to expect if they are considering the Nursing part of this home for their loved ones. My Dad recently had a short stay, as we moved him shortly after arriving as the care he was giving was below adequate.
Basic needs of hygiene, nutrition & cleanliness were not met at all. The food was very poor, lacking any nutritional value and not enough to sustain a healthy appetite, disticint lack of basics like water giving at regular intervals if any was giving at all, , the room was dirty on arrival and remained dirty throughout my dads stay, and in over 3 weeks stay my dad was only bathed on 2 occasions. I found the staff rude and unhelpful and lacking any respect for elderly loved ones they are caring for, also there were no activities available for my dad on the ward he was staying, I would not recommend Cedar Nursing to anyone based on my experience.

My dad became a resident in April. From the very beginning he has received exceptional care from both carers and nurses. Staff are lovely and friendly and approachable and nothing is ever a bother. Although my dad does not take part in any activities there's always something going on.
This was a massive
decision for my family to have dad move here but we have no regrets. I have not one bad thing to say about this home.

My mum recently became a permanent resident at Cedar Court. The staff are very caring and their interaction with residents is very good. This was a really big change for a 99 year old moving from her lifetime home and a emotional decision for the family to make but her safety and day to day care is
a top priority. The staff at Cedar Court were really good at helping her settle in and reassuring he as to why she was living there when she was having a confused day. My mum has blossomed in Cedar Court, she joins in the daily activities, has made new friends and even likes a good sing song. I feel more relaxed knowing she is well cared for and settled and that someone is there 24 hours a day to help her if needed. Thank you to the Cedar Court Team x

My Mum has recently become a permanent resident in Cedar Court. I can honestly say the staff are amazing, so caring, thoughtful and attentive. Nothing is too much bother for them, they go above and beyond each and every day, the respect and compassion they have shown Mum while she comes to terms with
this massive change in her life has been second to none. She is extremely tactile, and I have to say the staff happily indulge this "little trait" she has, which Mum absolutely relishes. The other residents are so nice too, I often feel like I'm visiting a number of them when I go in, it's so sweet. There's always lots going on, great activities as well as time to relax with a cuppa. Mum says she's in a 5* hotel, I have to agree, she's waited on hand and foot !
It's clean, bright, has lovely rooms, and always nice food. Family and friends of the residents are welcomed warmly.
My family and I are so grateful.
I 100% recommend Cedar Court if you're looking for somewhere for a loved one.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.507)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.507) out of 10 for Cedar Court Residential & Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 36 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.507 for Cedar Court Residential & Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (356 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (43 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 428 Ratings = 4.507
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cedar Court Residential & Nursing Home is based on 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 68 registered maximum number of service users is 13.6, which has been reached with 32 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
