A beautifully converted 18th Century mansion, Towy Castle Care Home is situated in 3 acres of private grounds surrounded by amazing views of the Towy estuary.

The family run home provides a range of flexible and tailored care packages for both long-term residential care and day care. In addition, a purpose built specialist dementia care unit was also added to the home in 2012. Staff at the home are well trained and qualified and aim to provide the highest quality of individual based care treating each resident with dignity and respect.

The residential unit comprises of high quality accommodation that has been modernised and designed to provide a homely, secure and happy environment with beautiful rooms and stunning communal spaces. All rooms have an ensuite toilet with a nurse-call system in place, alongside television points. Residents can benefit from a range of facilities and services such as a hair salon and laundry service, and they have the option to participate in regular activities and concerts within the home. Delicious home cooked meals are prepared daily using fresh local produce.

The dementia units provide specialist care in a carefully designed friendly and homely environment for up to twenty residents. Each unit hosts a range of dementia-friendly facilities and also includes an outside sensory garden. All rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished and include a wet-room, nurse-call system, wall mounted television and fitted wardrobes.

For people who would like to try out the services and facilities at Towy Castle or would just like a bit of company and social interaction, the home offers a friendly setting where individuals can enjoy a two-course meal and a dinner.

Having made the difficult decision to move my mother from her family home of 50 years into residential care, the choice of a new home was of paramount importance. We were looking for an environment focussed on providing compassion and care in an attractive semi-rural setting, with an opportunity for
mum to be able to converse in Welsh.
We also wanted a care home that provided simulative daily activities, thereby enhancing residents' quality of life. Decent food, good quality accommodation was expected as was an accommodating attitude towards family requests and wishes.


We viewed half a dozen or so potentially suitable homes but none struck the balance we were seeking until we visited Towy Castle. Ultimately, I would never consider putting my mother into a care facility that didn't meet our family's demanding standards. Thus far, Towy Castle has met and in some instances, exceeded our expectations.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the staff at Towy Castle Care Home. My mother has been a resident there for the past two and a half years, and she could not have been better looked after. Her bedroom is kept very clean and tidy; nothing is too much trouble for the very professional
and caring staff, she only has to ask and it is done; and my mother is entirely satisfied with the meals provided. The home also went to a lot of trouble recently to provide a 103rd birthday tea for my mother and some friends. I would thoroughly recommend Towy Castle to anyone.

We visited a number of care homes as we were looking for a suitable place for my mother. Towy Castle was by far our choice as everything from the management, staff and general well being of the residents was apparent from the first visit. Very pleased with the care at Towy Castle. Staff are extremely good. They are always pleasant and helpful. Can't fault the level of care, myself and my sister are very satisfied with the home and the whole family will recommend the home to everyone.

Very satisfied with everything, but, doing away with a room for visitors, outside community support, family to talk privately with a resident was not a good idea in my opinion.
Not enough chairs for visitors beside relative therefore if more than 2 visitors - no room.

Friendly, caring team who are thoughtful and interact well with the residents. It is personalised care enabled by the smaller sized dementia unit. The environment looks welcoming, both inside and out and the decor is of a good standard. Improvements would include more proactivity in relation to access
to mainstream healthcare outside the home (although this has improved hugely recently which we appreciate) and more evidence of activities for those in the dementia unit. We appreciate this is challenging. Food seems good.

Towy Castle is an excellent establishment. We researched about 100 care homes and visited about 30. Towy Castle was clearly the best and we have not been disappointed. The staff really do care; from owner, managers, nurses, cook, care assistants to cleaners. Their concerns are genuine and they always
have time for both residents and visitors. You are always made to feel welcome at whatever time of day you visit and everything is always clean, efficient and friendly, with happy contented residents. The resident/staff ratio is amazing and we would have no hesitation in recommending Towy Castle Care Home to anybody.

We have been extremely fortunate in obtaining a place for my Mother, who has frontal temporal dementia, in Towy Castle Care Home.
The location in the Towy Valley is peaceful. The quality of rooms, facilities, meals are all good. The nursing staff are respectful and build personal relationships with
the residents.
The weekly external trips and internal events organised are all stimulating and important given my mother’s condition. The range and variety of events are beyond our expectations and really differentiate Towy Castle from other Care Homes. The administration staff were very efficient and supportive during admission and have been subsequently. I would specifically mention the quality of support our family were given by the administration team during a very stressful and drawn out Social Services engagement to decide on entry to full-time care.
I would commend Towy Castle to families looking for a quality Care Home for their loved ones.

Towy Castle is a beautiful home, set in the country with panoramic scenery all around.
The home staff are exceptionally clean and the welcome I receive is first class and all the staff are very friendly. The residents are always clean and are well cared for. The food served at all meals vary from day
to day and is very appetising.
I would recommend as a 1st class residential home to anybody.

Before my Mum moved to Towy Castle Care Home, I looked at four other care home in the county, Towy Castle stands out as having the highest ratio of care staff to residents, I feel that the care staff are exceptional in terms of the quality of care and support they provide to residents. My mum continues
to receive a high level of support and kindness by care staff, that for me, personally is the most important criterion in choosing any care home. Good range of activities and facilities available to residents.

Owners, managers and care staff have always demonstrated flexibility in their approach and the service offered. (My mother attended as a day care resident prior to becoming a long-term resident.)
Their manner has always been respectful, polite and professional to both my mother and us as her family.
My mother is treated as an individual and her privacy and dignity is maintained at all times.
Excellent joint working with other professionals - in my mother’s case with the specialist diabetic nurse/ district nurses.

Towy Castle helped me look after my mum, during her last years...providing daycare and transport to and from the home (she had severe Alzheimer's). They provided a First Class Service (care, support basically everything). I know that attending Towy Castle greatly improved her quality of life. They
made the unbearable...bearable...and as good as it could be, for all of us. I cannot recommend them highly enough and will always be incredibly grateful for the outstandingly compassionate professional care they provided before she sadly passed away (4/8/18).

My mother was a resident for three years until she died of natural causes of old age. She was well looked after by the staff and was happy in the home, she thought she was home due to dementia in this home. Very well kept in clean clothes. The food and drinks were always well presented. Always friendly
staff to welcome you when visited. I felt at home there. I miss going there and made lots of friends.

Towy Castle is, without doubt, a most exceptional care home.


The staff do everything they can to accommodate any requests received and attend to all of Mum's needs in a consistent and professional way.


The rooms are all maintained to a very high standard and are so homely.


Cleanliness is paramount

and this can be recognised as soon as you step into the main foyer and throughout!

Sue Lanceley

Job Title: Home Manager

Originally from Cheshire, Sue moved to Wales in 1982 with her children. Sue is a Registered Nurse and started her career working within hospitals and as a District Nurse. Once her children were older, she returned to working as a Nurse within the private sector, where she worked her way up to a Registered Manager at a Nursing Home. She has remained within this sector as it is a role where she feels she can make a difference.


She has worked as a Registered Manager in England and Wales for the last 12 years in homes ranging from 24 to 80 beds. Sue is a Dementia Specialist Nurse, and has a level 5 in Leadership and Management, Level 4 in Advice and Guidance and Level 3 Diploma in Dementia. Sue also gained a gold award in Leadership and Management in the Care Forum Wales Awards.


She is committed and passionate about caring for and supporting everyone in her homes and providing an environment where staff can learn and flourish to be empathetic carers who put their residents' needs and wishes first. Sue's priority is ensuring that her residents are happy, well cared for and valued.

Job Title: Care Coordinator

I grew up in Ferryside, just 10 minutes down the road, and have always had a passion for caring for others. I originally wanted to train as a nurse, but found my calling working with the elderly, where I can make a real difference every day.


As Care Coordinator, my role is to oversee the health and well-being of our residents. I check on each resident daily, liaise with district nurses, arrange and accompany residents to appointments, and provide one-to-one support when needed. I also help with the organisation of home care, making sure everything runs smoothly.


What I enjoy most about my job is getting to know each resident personally – spending time with them, building relationships, and helping them feel truly at home. Working with the staff team feels like being part of a family, and together we create a warm, homely environment with beautiful views that everyone can enjoy.


I am currently completing my Level in Leadership and Management in Social Care, which is helping me to grow and develop in my role.


My goal is to ensure all our residents receive the very best support, feel happy, and know they are always well looked after.
