Westcombe Park Care Home

112a Westcombe Park Road, Blackheath, London SE3 7RZ

Westcombe Park is a modern care home situated in a residential area of Greenwich, surrounded by landscaped gardens.

It offers nursing and nursing residential care in a warm, friendly environment where residents are given as much independence as possible.

It also provides respite and convalescence care.

Every bedroom has been thoughtfully decorated to create a warm and homely atmosphere. Most of the bedrooms are en-suites. It can also accommodate couples with double rooms.

Enjoying food is an important part of life. The chefs create well-crafted menus made with the freshest ingredients and tries to cater for all ethnicity groups. Soon after a resident arrives at the home, staff discuss their personal preferences and dietary needs with them.

There’s a real sense of community at Westcombe Park. The staff work to discover what residents enjoy doing and the home's social calendar is organised around those interests. Overview

The Review Score of 8.9 (maximum of 10) for Westcombe Park Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 10 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Westcombe Park Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.284 for Westcombe Park Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (57 Excellents x 5) + (41 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 116 Ratings = 4.284

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.588 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Westcombe Park Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 10.2 positive Reviews (51 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 6 Reviews ÷ 10.2 Target = 0.588

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

8.9 Westcombe Park Care Home has a Review Score of 8.9 (8.872) from 10 Reviews

Good home mostly. Food not always good, menu done sometimes and not others, residents request some items on menu but sometimes not given.
Happy with treatment from staff, not always fully staffed which is a problem if one resident needs more support.
Afternoon tea/coffee, cake/biscuits not always provided and sometimes too near supper time.
Too many carers left in the last few months.

Thank you for your review. We really appreciate all feedback, so that we can look in to addressing any concerns.

Mum has been here for almost a year now. Initially, she was in her room a lot (20 hours out of 24) however, since the new manager arrived he has made lots of positive changes and there's a lot more going on in the lounge for all the residents to participate in. The staff are all very kind and friendly and dedicated to their jobs. Mum is happy and feels safe here.

Thank you for your review. It is so nice to hear that your mum is happy and enjoying the different activities on offer.

On the whole, both my parents are well looked after. The cleanliness in my mum's room isn't that great. On a few, dirty incontinence pads have been left in her bathroom.

My husband seems to have settled into his life here quite well, though I don't know if he realises, whereabouts he is.
The staff all seem to be well trained, capable and friendly.
His room is "so-so", carpet could do with either changing or given a deep clean.

The Bupa care home building is of a good standard and welcoming. However, the carpet may need cleaning more frequently due to spills/accidents etc. In places stains/smells from carpet.
Care/support: There needs to be a named person who takes responsibility for residents. Each day all staff on duty need to update and read patient/residents notes.
More physio needed and activities for those who do not go downstairs.
Food: In a diverse age, all residents "food needs" should be met. This needs to be worked on.

Very good staff. Not enough carers per floor, therefore, carers are rushed and cannot perform their best. The nurses are also rushed since they often work 2 floors instead of one.

Thank you for treating mum with dignity and respect. We cannot fault your care and compassion, in particular, the senior care assistant. She was a pillar of strength to us all.
An amazing team.

Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear about your positive experience and appreciate your comments about our home and will share your comments with the home’s manager.

Food is not suitable for the elderly, cold food is not good enough for the elderly. My husband has lost a lot of weight because of the food as most old people do not like salad, men at least. My husband has had a sore on his hip, I don't think it is a bed sore but it has become infected, he is on antibiotics which I am not bothered about. He had the dressing changed on the evening of Wed 14th at 5-6 o'clock when I went in - the same dressing was on at 3 o'clock in the afternoon full of puss. I was not happy with this, you have got too many agency staff working, some good, some bad, this is why you get a bad name. I have done health care for 37 years but this is not good.

Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear about your positive experience and appreciate your comments of our home and will share your comments with the home’s manager. The Bupa Customer Care Team

The way I and my aunt have been treated has been absolutely wonderful. I would particularly like to mention the lady that gave us a very detailed and helpful introduction to the home before my aunt decided to come, she carried on being extremely helpful and kind after my aunt moved in. I have to say that the advice, care and concern that she has given to me and my aunt over the time since my aunt came in August has massively helped in settling my aunt in. If all your staff are as committed to Bupa and the resident's needs then my aunt will have a wonderful time.
