My mother became resident recently to this facility and my first contact was with the staff. I was very impressed, from their welcome and professionalism. They are very kind and so dedicated to their work and care to the resident. The facilities in the building are great.

Firstly, the receptionist for her most welcomed greeting given to us when we arrived and her efficient caring way given for the covid 19 swab test etc, she was a very caring, kind and helpful lady. Secondly, floor 1, we are very grateful to the 2 nursing sisters and all the staff who helped our mum, 97 years old and poorly in health, kindly and caring making her so comfortable and peaceful. Sister also helped by ringing us to say come in extra near the end, which helped us say our love, blessings and to say goodbye to our darling mum. Thank you to the night nurse who was with her at the end too. Very dignified and all treated respectfully by all. Thank you.

My father in law received dignified and compassionate care in the Garden Unit at the end of his life. The duty nurse recognised the end was near and called us in with enough time to say our goodbyes. For the three years before he was well looked after and enjoyed playing games and quizzes with the activities staff, especially with an ice-cream! Despite all the challenges of Covid-19, the care and nursing staff do amazing work keeping residents safe.

My mother was transferred to Acton Care Home for palliative care.
She spent 16 days there. It has taken me 6 months to even be able to think about the absolute nightmare that my mother, myself and my 2 sisters went through. We saw a palliative care nurse only once. Nurses were abrupt and often rude to us even though we were traumatised by our mother's fate. She was often left in pain as nurses would not respond quick enough to our request for pain relief.

There was no compassion from the staff and my sister was spoken to in a very rude manner by a nurse. We should not have had to go through what we did at such a difficult time.

Reply from Sym Jaj, Senior Marketing Executive at Acton Care Centre

We're incredibly sorry to hear of your experience with us Let me reassure you that at Gold Care Homes we work incredibly hard to provide person-centred care and show all of our resident's compassion. Father admitted during COVID and Acton Care Centre have taken really good care of our father. The staff are very caring and attentive. All staff are very approachable and friendly, particularly the front desk and senior nurse in charge. We are confident all our father's needs are met, despite limited COVID visits. For this reason, I cannot comment on the room or food provided. Many thanks to all.

Welcoming and friendly staff, aware of the residents' needs and very helpful and polite. My ex-husband has settled well and speaks well of the care he is given by staff and looks physically much better, but sadly still quite confused, but staff are managing him well and he feels happy to be in the unit. My grateful thanks to all staff.

My Father has been a resident since March 2020 and we have always found the staff to be friendly, caring and considerate.
We did not get to see him for three months due to COVID but as soon as we were allowed to see him again the staff let us know.

As hard as it is having him in a care home, the team at Acton Care Centre have gone above and beyond with their help and kindness in looking after him during such a difficult time. We know that the staff really care about the residents and knowing this gives us peace of mind.

Reply from Alison Foreman, Director of Sales and Marketing at Acton Care Centre

My mother stayed at the home for six weeks following her discharge from hospital and still requiring care before finally going home. The staff were lovely, nothing was too much trouble, and always helpful. The room was fine, comfortable, and we also brought in items from home to make it more personal. Everyone from the receptionists, care staff, nurses, cooks and cleaners were friendly, approachable and helpful. As my mum chose to mainly remain in her room, she did not use the restaurant; which looked lovely, however, she did say that sometimes the food could have been warmer, but I know when she did comment on it, the meal was always replaced.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Acton Care Centre.

Review from Joan O (Friend of Resident) published on 31 March 2020 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
As a friend and next of kin of a resident in this care home, I would not recommend this nursing home for palliative care. I was left on my own with my friend screaming in pain for an hour. When we rang the call bell carers came and turned off the alarm. They did not check if my friend needed help. My friend wanted me to lift her up in the bed and I was unable to do that. We rang the bell again and carers came and again turned off the bell and walked out the door. I had to go twice to the nurse on duty in the reception and she gave my friend morphine tablets which took ages to take effect.
Another day I was with my friend for 3 hours after she had a stroke and no one came to check her pads.
When she asked to go to the toilet they told her to go in her pads.
They were also giving her solid food which she was unable to eat.

As a friend of a resident, I was treated poorly. I was asked to buy her soap and cream and shampoo which is not my duty to do. I was asked numerous times to feed my friend.

The vibe and energy of the place is warm and welcoming. The staff go beyond their duty of care all the time to make residents and their visiting families feel welcome and comfortable. My mother was 90 with late-stage dementia when she was transferred to Acton Care Centre for palliative care in her final weeks. Staff settled her in and set up special meals to meet her medical and personal needs. They alerted me promptly when she declined so family could be with her and say their goodbyes.

Acton Care Centre supported her and us during the final 48 hours and it eased some of the stress and grief of her passing to know she was kept comfortable and pain-free at the end. Our thanks to all the staff at Acton Care Centre.

Hello, I visited my Father, last week Sunday, he seemed happy but I was not happy with the food given to him. It was very little and very off-putting when I went to get it for him. The next day I visited him the window was opened I closed it but was a bit worried as it is very cold and there is no need for the window to be opened.

Today my cousin visited me and told me the window was wide open and showed me my Dad in just a
t-Shirt and the curtains where blowing surely this is not the time of year for the window to be opened.

After talking to my cousin I said I am very sad as I live far away in Somerset and he has a flimsy pillow and one thin sheet and blanket. I am shocked that there is not sufficient bedding and no blanket, I brought the small throw whilst he was in the hospital. I will be visiting this week and would like to ask who is in charge to make sure the windows remain closed at all times.

Thank you.

My 93-year-old mother was admitted a week ago for end-of-life care following major surgery. She also had Alzheimer's and had been declining in physical and mental strength during her time in the hospital. Nursing care during the week she was with you, was exemplary, as was the respect and courtesy shown to family members. She died very peacefully this morning with me and a kindly nurse by her side.

My father has just arrived at Acton Care Centre. He has now been a resident for just over 3 weeks. I cannot thank the staff enough for the welcome that we received. Every single member of staff has been outstanding. The last year has been extremely difficult with my father's health gradually deteriorating and worrying about him has been endless. I can honestly say that when I leave him at Acton Care Home after visiting my heart is smiling. It is such a warm, welcoming, relaxed, professional environment and at last, my father smiles again.
