Overall Experience

My father was transferred to Ashbrook after a long stay in hospital. After initial concerns I spoke with management who took notice and acted immediately. This gave me more peace of mind and my father seemed more content. I have found staff on the Beech Unit to be kind, courteous, and compassionate. A pleasant, friendly welcome helped me to accept the situation of my elderly father. Daily activities are entertaining and fun which is wonderful to see and greatly appreciated.

Mum transferred here from hospital. The treatment she has sustained there is appalling, in the process of moving mum as soon as possible. Been reported to safeguarding.

Please do not let your loved one be discharged by the hospital to Ashbrook Nursing Home, Cedar Level 2 ward. Sadly for a non-dementia patient, this ward is totally inappropriate. A catalogue of errors, including giving the wrong medication have occurred in just 36 hours. Safeguarding was raised and a CQC investigation is underway.
You have a voice! You need to be that voice for your loved one when they are in need.
Don't let the hospital tell you it has to be Ashbrook - we didn't realise that - look up NHS approved discharge homes and tell the hospital you prefer whichever one it is ..... discuss it with them, don't just accept. We didn't know and so regret the upset and stress our Mum has been through.
We're moving her ourselves, at our own cost, to somewhere which we hope is safe, secure, and above all caring of their residents.

Good luck, it's a minefield!

For the best part of 3 years, my wife was cared for at Ashbrook. In that time I am satisfied that she was very well cared for.

Overall I am happy with the care home and staff who look after Mum. If there is an issue, it gets rectified. Cleaning staff are also very friendly to residents. Not so sure about laundry - clothes are washed at high temperatures, therefore shrinking. I have to buy clothes regularly.

Sadly our Mum was only in residence for around 6 weeks after suffering a stroke in January. However, the staff we encountered were extremely caring and helpful. They really seemed to have her best interests at heart, as if she was one of their own family. They really tried their best to encourage Mum, but she had sadly given up the fight.

Not a good home for your loved ones. In my opinion, they lack the skilled carers for critical care and the care plan put in place by the hospital for my father was not followed correctly. Unfortunately, my father died within 10 days following admission. He was left in his chair for 6 hours without being position changed, visualised or continence needs not always met. There was no intervention from the SALT team as requested. Unit 2 is highly understaffed. On arriving the day he died, I found him unsupported in the bed and in a very unkempt state shivering in urine. I had to alert them to urgently tend to him. He died 4 hours later. They showed no empathy. We are all thoroughly disgusted and heartbroken. His death came 2 days before his 60th wedding anniversary. Do not allow this to happen to your family members.

The staff at the care home are very caring. The receptionist is excellent at her job. It's a shame that covid happened and the residents had to endure being separated from their loved ones.

My experience of the home has been excellent. The staff are attentive and caring, always happy to be around to help and support my elderly father. During covid-19 times they have been very understanding and helpful to the family to enable access when possible. Very pleased with the home in every aspect.

My father was discharged from hospital and into Ashbrook on 4th November. He has been made to feel comfortable and has been allocated a pleasant room. All staff that I have encountered have been friendly, helpful, and professional. I have always been able to get answers to my questions and staff have time to listen.

When my wife was fast tracked to Ashbrook from the hospital we were told it would only for a few weeks before she died. Three years later that time came. I put it down to the care my wife received while at the home. I also appreciated the care I received from the staff when visiting my wife every day. I would like to thank all the staff on Beech Floor.

I have always found the staff very helpful and caring. My cousin was so ill when she was discharged from the hospital. Now she is in much better health, happy and contented, thanks to the staff than living on her own.

My mum was placed in Ashbrook after a spell in the hospital. I couldn't have picked a nicer home myself. All the staff are very kind and thoughtful; nothing is too much trouble. When visiting Mum, I always feel very welcome. Mum's wellbeing has increased immensely; she's made some nice friends and is enjoying life.

Review from Graham B (Brother of Resident) published on 30 June 2021 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

I arrived at the nursing home at the appointed time and the receptionist was waiting for us. She was polite and helpful. We were taken up to where my brother's room was. The room was clean, bright, well maintained. All the staff were friendly and appeared caring, the staff knew we had travelled a long distance and instantly offered us refreshments. My brother was brought to his room from the lounge, and the staff were obviously looking after him and keeping him happy - all in all I am very impressed with his care.

Review from Rebecca R (Granddaughter of Resident) published on 28 January 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

I have only visited a few times but on the occasions I have, my grandparent has been dealt with care and compassion. However, the biggest positive I have witnessed is the time and effort the staff put into looking after my other grandparent who comes to visit every day. I cannot thank the staff enough for all they do to look after both the physical wellbeing of my resident grandparent and the emotional wellbeing of my non-resident grandparent.

My mother was dying when she was fast-tracked to the home and over two years later she is still with us! Of course, no home is going to score 100% but from my own experience, I have been happy with my mother's care.

The home has done everything that they can to keep residents safe during the pandemic. They have tried hard when possible to let family in to see residents but have also followed the guidance to the letter too. It has been a hard decision for them to make I am sure, but families have been kept up to date with Facebook videos and Facetime calls. Thank you for all you are doing.
