Overall Experience

The family's experience with Barchester Atfield House Care Home has been a positive one. My mum has been a resident in the Memory Care Unit for almost 5 years. The nursing and care staff are excellent and I trust them completely with my mum in their care. Working day in and day out with residents living with dementia takes an enormous amount of patience and energy. The staff do an excellent job in the face of a very challenging environment. I'm grateful to them all and wouldn't hesitate in recommending them to families requiring specialist care.

Our aunt entered Atfield House in November 2022, bedridden with very little ability to do anything. Through the care and attention she received whilst there, she has left there today a very different person t the one that entered. She is now able to be out of bed all day and manoeuvre herself in a wheelchair around to enable to take part in activities. She can also now stand and get herself to the toilet and in and out of the wheelchair. She has left Atfield House to be with her husband in another care home. As a family, we are very grateful to Atfield House staff for their care and the attention she received whilst in their care.

Overall Experience

The resident's son, partner and our two teenage grandchildren (and pet dog) visited this afternoon and we were all looked after like royalty. There were other events happening, which unfortunately we missed, but we were still welcomed and given our own room with coffee, tea and a selection of cakes. Best of all, I had mentioned that two of the family only ate gluten-free food and the home provided a selection of gluten-free cakes for us, as well as regular cakes. Fantastic. I would also like to emphasise how very welcoming and keen to look after you everyone at the home is. Also how lovely the place looks. A really sweet Valentine's vibe indoors and colourful flowers and plants outside and indoors. It's a lovely place to visit and we all had a great time together. Thank you.

We were greeted by the assistant manager and taken to a nice lounge to complete the paperwork and admin. The staff were kind and attentive, everyone tried to make it like a home-from-home. Food was good and everywhere was clean. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble.

The building inside and out always looks clean and tidy every time we visit my aunt. The staff are always very helpful and polite, always offering tea, coffee and biscuits. During my mothers 11 months stay at Atfield House she was extremely well cared for. The staff very quickly learned her likes and dislikes and what was very important to her and the family was always kept informed about her health and welfare. Her personal care was carried out in a very professional, respectful and gentle way and hearing my mother laughing and chatting with the carers was reassuring. When she managed to join in the activities she really enjoyed herself. Her family and friends were always made to feel welcome when we visited and everyone at Atfield contributed to her well-being. When she started to slip away, she received end-of-life care which led to her peaceful end. The management and admin staff are very approachable and always willing to listen and address any problems. The regular meetings with relatives proved to be very useful in answering any questions and giving us details of forthcoming events and works within the home.

My husband was looked after very well in Atfield House where he spent the last eight months of his life. The decision to take him to a nursing home was the most difficult decision I had ever had to make. It means a lot to me to know he was in safe hands. The home is run professionally with a high standard of care and excellent food. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home.

I'm hugely grateful to the Atfield House Care Home team. They made mum's last days very comfortable and she was in clean clothes every time I visited she would have appreciated that. Her room was peaceful and calm. The staff were practical and upfront in describing mums condition. I really appreciated that approach so I could be well prepared for the final outcome. One tiny niggle- There was mould on one sippy cup, mum had not eaten or drunk anything so I guess it was just sat there for a while.

Mother has been at Atfield House Care Home for over five years. She has Dementia but seems very happy. She is well cared for. The food is excellent and plentiful. The staff are welcoming and take great care of all my mother's needs. The home is well-run and holds regular meetings with relatives. It is expensive, but in my opinion, is worth it for peace of mind knowing that my mother is well cared for.
