My mum went to Barchester Derham House Care Home for respite care. First impressions were very good, staff were friendly and seemed caring.

I informed management and nursing staff that my mum would be going to a flat to live by herself so I wanted them to keep her mobile. Unfortunately, this didn't happen and she's much worse than when first arrived. I know they can't force people to do what they don't want to but there are ways of persuading people, I have been a carer so I know. Food wasn't as good as I thought it would be either.

I am happy living here and enjoy talking to the carers when they have time. I like being taken for walks and sitting in the gardens. I feel everyone works hard and does their best. I want you to know I appreciate all your efforts and care.

My father was always taken of with kindness by friendly staff with whom he built a great rapport. They would take time to talk to him, making him feel like a part of Derham House and able to join in on activities stimulating and engaging him with other residents myself and our families have nothing but praise for the home and its staff.

My aunt is a resident of Barchester Derham House Care Home. On every occasion I have visited, all the staff are friendly and approachable. The care given to the residents is second to none. There are lots of stimulating activities and outside entertainers brought in to entertain them. The home is spotlessly clean and the staff go out of their way to accommodate the needs of the residents. My aunt has always expressed her happiness in being at the home and the staff demonstrate a genuine affection and care for everyone. The food is very nutritious and again, the staff are very accommodating in meeting my aunt's dietary requirements and will go out of their way to make her something special if she requests it. The grounds are lovely, well kept and maintained.

Excellent care home, all staff are extremely nice, polite and more importantly, they are very caring with the residents. The manager is absolutely amazing, second to none. The home is clean and well-attended in all areas. My sister can't be in a better place. Thanks to everyone for looking after my sister so well.

I cannot fault the care that my mum receives from the home. Being all on one floor is perfect for safety and access for my mum to walk around. They have access to a garden courtyard as well as the fields surrounding. All the staff are wonderful, always friendly and caring not only to my mum but to myself and all the visitors. They provide plenty of activities and stimulation for the residents. I know that my mum is safe and cared for.

My mum has been in Derham House Care Home since May 2022. She has thrived since being there. She has gained weight and is much more alert. She has made friends and always says how much she enjoys her meals. The staff are fantastic, very caring and attentive to everyone's needs. I have no hesitation in recommending Derham House.

My mother spent nearly two months in Derham House Care Home, initially for respite care. She was treated kindly, efficiently and with respect. I was impressed by the knowledgeable and empathetic approach of the management team. My mother liked going into the garden, but we had to ask for her to be helped there. My mother found the 5 pm time for the evening meal too early.

My mother lived at Derham House from March 2018 until her recent death in October 2022. She lost her mobility after breaking her hips and more recently experienced dementia related to Parkinson's disease. The staff and management have been wonderful. Living in Canada, it was important that I find a place where I could have complete confidence in the staff to meet my mother complex needs. Not only did they meet her physical needs, they also showed her love and kindness. She would talk fondly of the Pinkie ladies who lead the activities while she was still able to participate in them. She also formed a special bond with several of the carers. Before the pandemic I used to visit my mother every four months and would spend many hours with her each day. I always saw the carers treat my mother and the other residents with kindness and respect. Just before my mother died, the nurse arranged for me to spend time with her via Skype and I got to spend two and a half precious hours with her.

The staff were simply wonderful! The care... perfection! After an extremely difficult hospital experience, the support from Derham House was outstanding, for both my dad as a respite resident and also for our family. They allowed the transition back to life to be hassle-free, sorting everything out with the doctors and medication. We had a holiday - we never imagined or dreamed was possible. We wouldn't have been more pleased choosing Derham House to get our dad back once again. Thank you; you have all been amazing.
