Reviews

8 Mornington Hall Care Home has a Review Score of 8 (8.001)

The Review Score of 8 (maximum of 10) for Mornington Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 8 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Mornington Hall Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.084 for Mornington Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (29 Excellents x 5) + (48 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.084

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.917 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mornington Hall Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.75

    2. Target of 24 positive Reviews (120 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 4 Reviews ÷ 24 Target = 0.167

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My father moved to the home is September 2017. All the staff I have met have been lovely to him (and me) and I think he is well taken care of. Nothing is perfect but the staff seem to do their very best and my family are very grateful.

Staff are friendly on Mum's unit and understand Mum's needs. Mum has dementia but still has social skills and enjoys activities like bingo. Activities are very important. The new Manager is making sure all residents have access to activities and more in each unit. Mum has settled well and has always let us know if Mum is unwell get a doctor. Mum is kept clean and tidy. Food could be improved, which the new Manager is looking into. Toilets need more cleaning.

Clare Sheehan, Care Advisor at Mornington Hall Care Home responded to this review on 30 Jan 2018:

Thank you for your feedback which is crucial to supporting us with constantly improving the service that we deliver. We are happy that you are pleased that your Mum is being cared for in a safe environment. Thank you for highlighting the areas for improvements which in summary is the food and cleanliness of toilets. We will address these issues immediately with the appropriate Heads of Department and as Home Manager, I will review as part of my twice daily walk around, whilst we continue to provide good quality service for all of our residents.

I have been so impressed with the staff here. They treat residents with kindness, dignity and respect.
The activities are varied and fun, including a garden party, performances, church visits and pub lunches. Next is a trip to the seaside.
There is a 'can do' attitude from the staff. They show a warm sense of humour too.
They are also friendly and approachable to residents' families - knowing us by name.
Thank you very much.

We need better systems in place. Sometimes tea, sometimes no teas. The food was given but left on the table. Sometimes the residents get mad with not having proper care as staff shortages.

Thank you for your review. Your comments are extremely important to us and our residents’ health and wellbeing is our absolute priority. We will discuss your feedback with the home’s manager to help them continually improve their service.

Overall the care is very good, there's a lot of time when residents are put into a chair and left to their own devices, more activities are required to keep them engaged as they will just sit and nap if left to it. My mum has certainly deteriorated since her admission. Don't think all options for menu choices are mentioned residents do not go up to the wall menu so do not know the choice offered.

I, personally, am more than satisfied with the service being provided for my mother. She tells me that in reality, this is not the place she would like to be but realising her condition, it would be impossible to be able to stay in her own home safely. She is therefore quite content to be at Mornington Hall where she is being looked after very well.

My mum likes it there, with very few exceptions she has been treated well and likes the staff. I personally like the set up and the location which is very restful and allows me to take her out to see the interesting garden area.
