Overall Experience
My mother was in this home.

The management in this home are extremely poor and they would not communicate with you.

The care my mum received was sporadic. If the bell was rung for help by the residents then it would take a while if at all for anyone to tend to them. I also found that the home could smell and did not seem clean in the rooms especially the toilets.

The staff did not seem to want to interact with the residents and it always seemed to them a chore to do anything for them.

When you needed a member of staff there was never anyone around they were either on their breaks which they all seemed to go together or meetings.

My mother was moved to another home in Chislehurst and the care she received there was so much more superior. Plenty of friendly staff who cared and good communication with management.

Needless to say, I would not recommend the Sidcup.

Sidcup Care Home treated my Dad with the utmost respect at all times. The care he received was second to none. At all times the staff made sure my Dad's dignity was respected and upheld too, as much as was possible. If there was a time things were not right as I saw it the staff always made sure it was corrected immediately. I have nothing but praise for all the staff at Sidcup Care Home and would not hesitate to recommend.

We were disappointed by the week's respite stay at this home. The initial assessment was thorough and helpful and special bed arrangements were promised (and interesting activities). In the event the night was cold, the bed fittings had not been attached; and this lack of attention to detail was characteristic of the stay.

At £1340 for the week we did not think this was good value for money.

Both of my in-laws are residents in The Sidcup Care Home and it is such a comfort to know that they are both safe and being well looked after. The Home itself is bright and welcoming, it is well maintained and it is good to see the standards in decorating and refurbishment are ongoing.

In my opinion, the staff are your biggest asset and their care and dedication deserve the highest praise, they work in an environment which takes much patience and tasks some of us couldn't face day in day out. They are all very friendly and professional and always available to listen and help with any queries we may have.

This nursing home has been on a speedy path of improvement for the last couple of years and is now of a very high standard. My mother settled quickly, helped no doubt by the easy, friendly manner of the staff who made every effort to get to know her needs.
In the last couple of weeks of her life, the staff exceeded all expectations. The kindness, compassion and dignified way in which she was treated, their constant check up with cheerful words, nothing was too much trouble.

The end was calm, peaceful and very sensitive. Thank you.

My mother was recently admitted to The Sidcup in the Granville Suite under palliative care.
On the very first day, I felt comfortable knowing that my mother would receive the level of care and attention that she so desperately needed and I was not disappointed.
From the front of house reception to the nursing and care staff, everybody was so loving and professional.

Even after my mum had passed on those same staff now shifted their attention to her husband, myself and my wife, offering support and advice where possible.

I cannot rate The Sidcup highly enough. The management should be proud of the standards their staff maintain.

A fair overall summary would be just adequate, essentially because of two reasons.
Firstly, the staff are unmotivated and this shows through in the care they give their residents and secondly the quality and standard of food is frankly nothing short of disgraceful.
Clearly, both of these issues stems from cost-cutting and because the majority of residents are old and frail, they simply get away with it.

Poor management is also to blame and if this were better at least the issues that I have highlighted would be vastly improved.

The Sidcup accepted my mother after a number of falls at home, leaving her confined to a chair for three days, unable to walk. After discussing the situation with The Sidcup, she was quickly accepted and she has never looked back.
Since moving in, she has relaxed visibly and enjoys the constant company of the excellent carers and has quickly made friends with other residents. She has started to sleep comfortably at nights for the first time in several years. She loves it.
We are confident in the high standard of care that she receives and the friendliness of all the staff that she has contact with.

The welcome at the home has been exceptional.

Since February of this year (2017) my mother was admitted to this care home. I have found the standard of the home Excellent on all counts. My mother has been more than happy with the care that she has received. She feels comfortable with the staff who have been looking after her. Whenever we have visited (which is most days) everyone whoever they are, whether they are managerial, administration, catering, housecare staff and carers/nurses they are all very welcoming and accommodating for whatever needs there maybe.

This is the second time I've used The Sidcup Care Home.

My mother prior to entering the Sidcup was vulnerable, anxious and frightened living on her own. After suffering a number of falls she asked to go into care. Due to her location (Sittingbourne) we suggested she moved closer to us in Bexley.

She now enjoys the company and has been out into the local environment for the first time in seven years. Also, the staff are wonderful which she enjoys it has given her a new outlook.

Congratulations to everyone who works at the Sidcup.

The Sidcup Care Home has progressed from a CQC rating of "needs improvement" in 2014 to a "Good" rating in 2016. The home has vastly improved and gives a high-quality standard of care. Work to ensure retention of staff has been achieved. The standard of decor and premises has been raised to improve quality from residents. Very good management team in place.

The Sidcup Care Home is a well-presented home which provides good quality care. A variety of meals is on offer, cooked and presented to a good standard. For those able a wide range of activities are available. The rooms and common parts are maintained to a good standard of cleaning. There is ample parking and the grounds are very presentable. All this is achieved by a proactive management which is supplemented by quarterly meetings attended by management, residents and relatives. Overall good quality care is provided by stable permanent staff.

My wife is in need of continuing care due to a brain tumour which has made her totally reliant on carers for all her needs. It became impossible and in fact dangerous to continue caring for her myself at home. The Sidcup Care Home provided an acceptable and adequate home for her to be cared for.

Myself and my husband have to say it gives us great pleasure to write this report. Although my mum had dementia, she told me at least three times in the first couple of weeks she liked it there and wanted to stay and she was very happy, From our point of view, we think the care, compassion and treatment she got was second to none. This home is a credit to all the staff that work there and our heartfelt thanks goes to them. Even after she passed, she was treated with the greatest dignity.
