St Mary’s provides quality residential and nursing care, whilst also specialising in palliative, respite and post operative convalescence care. They also offer nursing care for people living with Parkinson's, Huntington's disease and dementia (dependent on need).

Residents have a choice of places to find company or quiet time – from the vintage café, comfortable lounges, to the lovingly tended gardens. With high ceilings, big rooms and sash windows, residents can enjoy ample light in a refreshing open environment.

Many staff have been at St Mary's for a long time; they enjoy getting to know residents and often build warm friendships with them.

The home is ideally located with Luton town just a short walk away, or you can hop on a bus right outside the home.

Dietary needs are discussed on arrival and incorporated into a menu of fresh seasonal produce, eaten in the bright and airy dining rooms or in the privacy of clients’ own bedrooms.

There’s a real sense of community at the home. The staff work to discover what residents enjoy doing and the home's social calendar is organised around those interests.

Games, outings and entertainments are all part of a varied activities programme, with the calendar including coffee mornings, beauty therapy, musical performances and a themed event each month.

My mum has only been in this care home for 2 weeks and so far staff have been lovely. So very supportive, kind and so friendly. What a lovely team. It's nice and clean and I feel content knowing we picked this care home for my mum. The garden is lovely and a big shout-out to one staff member in particular
who makes us feel less nervous and more at ease when were visiting our mum.

The first day my grandmother entered St Mary's Care Home, the staff were there at the entrance to greet us with smiles on their faces. The staff are all so friendly, especially one member of staff who has been so supportive and understanding the process my grandmother and family are going through. St
Mary's has shown great effort to make it feel at home for service users and visitors. It has exceeded my expectations.

My father was efficiently admitted to the home. All the staff are friendly, and caring and treated him as an individual.
Nothing was too much trouble. The whole family were made to feel welcome on visits.
The food was good; the activities are great and the response to queries was good.

We were met at the door. The nurse was very warm and friendly. We were shown around the facilities and introduced to the staff, all of which were very helpful. They show great compassion and a very high level of care to everyone. We were encouraged to use all the facilities in the home including an
excellent day room. The care and understanding of the staff truly touched my heart. This is an outstanding care home with excellent staff. Five stars.

St Mary's Care Home is the best home. I enjoyed my two-week stay, and love this place. The staff are amazing, fantastic and very caring and kind staff. I would like to nominate a particular nurse for a care award. She is lovely and very kind. I am sure the home is very lucky to have her.

The staff are all excellent, they go above and beyond. The building is very clean and very homely. Each resident has their own room, ensuite and furniture, a TV and are kept very comfortable.
Family and friends are also made welcome and treated with kindness and respect. The best care I have experienced.
Entertainment is also very good.

My mum has been in St Mary's since July. The team have been very caring and supportive. They have built a close relationship with Mum and the family. Our worries and concerns are listened to and addressed. The home is very family orientated and has provided activities for the children as they navigate
this difficult time, this has been helpful when visiting for long periods of time during the school holidays, making things stressful, meaning I can bewith Mum and the children. St Mary's is a home from home and the staff are extended family.

Two weeks ago I accompanied residents to a day out organised by the care home. One resident became sick so the accompanying nurse reassured and calmed him down and gave him medication to treat his illness. I witnessed the nurse go out of the way to do this task with a smile and poise so as not to belittle
the resident who soon felt better. All residents enjoyed their outing and returned back to St Mary's after. A wonderful day out. Well done to the nurse for looking after the resident mentioned above.

My 95-year-old mother has been a resident at this care home for a few years. She is well looked after by the carers and the staff nurses. One particular staff nurse has been very kind to her in that she spends time with her and speaks to her. She is very professional and friendly. Always has a big smile.
I would like to recommend her for an award. She has always been helpful and updates me regularly on my mum's progress and well-being.

I arrived at St Mary's Care Home in January. I was on an end-of-life care program. With great care from nurses. A particular member of staff has worked her magic with care, especially love. I think she should be nominated for Nurse of the Year for her pure soul has rubbed off on me and for that, I can
only say thanks. I know all the carers and nurses will think I have a favourite but I think you're all great but she is special.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.696)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.696) out of 10 for St Mary's Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 52 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 51 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.696 for St Mary's Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (459 Excellents x 5) + (128 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 608 Ratings = 4.696
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Mary's Care Home is based on 51 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 51 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
