St Mary’s provides quality residential and nursing care, whilst also specialising in palliative, respite and post operative convalescence care. They also offer nursing care for people living with Parkinson's, Huntington's disease and dementia (dependent on need).

Residents have a choice of places to find company or quiet time – from the vintage café, comfortable lounges, to the lovingly tended gardens. With high ceilings, big rooms and sash windows, residents can enjoy ample light in a refreshing open environment.

Many staff have been at St Mary's for a long time; they enjoy getting to know residents and often build warm friendships with them.

The home is ideally located with Luton town just a short walk away, or you can hop on a bus right outside the home.

Dietary needs are discussed on arrival and incorporated into a menu of fresh seasonal produce, eaten in the bright and airy dining rooms or in the privacy of clients’ own bedrooms.

There’s a real sense of community at the home. The staff work to discover what residents enjoy doing and the home's social calendar is organised around those interests.

Games, outings and entertainments are all part of a varied activities programme, with the calendar including coffee mornings, beauty therapy, musical performances and a themed event each month.

My wife is very happy and well cared for by the staff.
The carers and the cleaning staff are exceptionally attentive.
We are hoping my wife's room will be redecorated soon.
The charges for the home have risen quite considerably this year too.

Both my aunt and uncle reside at St Mary.
They were in a really poor state when they entered.
Both are now thriving and are truly looked after well.
The staff are respectful and kind.
And my aunt and uncle love it there.
It’s so lovely to see them so happy.
I’m a qualified social worker who
used to carry out reviews of care homes in my work capacity.
So for me and my family to be so happy about the care provided comes from both a personal view and professional.
My relatives are thriving in there and we would not hesitate to highly recommend St Mary’s.
Reply from David Mclean, Customer Service Adviser at St Mary's Care HomeThank you for taking the time to leave your lovely review. We hope St Mary's Care Home did everything possible to make the transition as easy as possible for your uncle and aunt, and we were glad to help you and your family through such a difficult time. It is always nice to hear from family members feeling like their loved one is cared for and looked after. We hope to continue providing your loved one with the best possible care.

I can not praise or thank the staff at St Mary’s Care Home enough for the care they give to my mum. As well as the brilliant nursing care mum receives from the nursing staff she is also well cared for by the carers. All the staff are welcoming to me when I visit and make a point of chatting to me and
updating me about mum.
Reply from David Mclean, Customer Service Adviser at St Mary's Care HomeThank you for taking the time to leave your review and we are happy to hear St Marys care home did everything possible to make your mother feel like a part of our St Mary's family. My mum has been at St Mary’s for a while now, and the staff are lovely; they call and keep me updated on doctor's visits or any issues related to my mum. They always seem friendly and helpful. My mum is not aware of much, so it’s nice to know the staff speak with her and know her ways; it’s lovely to
hear when they talk about her with affection. Thank you for taking care of my mum, and I know she would be grateful to you.

Okay so you have asked for us to leave a review but we cannot discuss any concerns about the care home. No worries I will take it to social media because the level of care here is appalling and the Manager is disrespectful.

Amazing, caring staff.
Can't do enough to help everyone. Very understanding and polite.
The rooms are lovely, clean and well-equipped.
Couldn't say enough good things about St Mary's.
I think everyone going through difficult times with their relatives or friends would feel St Mary's is a safe,
comfortable and helpful environment for anyone needing this service.
Thank you so much!

When my sister-in-law was first admitted in July, she was very poorly and was deemed to need end-of-life care.
We are pleased to say that her treatment since then has been excellent. Her overall health does seem to have been improving. This is obviously due to the superb care she is being given.
We
found all the staff friendly and welcoming to us, and are always willing to give us advice and support when we ask for updates on her situation. (We live 200 miles away and can only visit every two weeks).
The staff show so much care, dignity and respect to her in spite of her having learning difficulties, which can sometimes be difficult.
We really appreciate everything you do.
Thank you.
Reply from Grace Langfield, Customer Service Adviser at St Mary's Care HomeThank you for taking the time to leave your valued feedback. When our friend first arrived at St Mary's Care Home in July it was really clean and fresh and the windows in her room were opened daily. However, as the weeks progressed I found the room increasingly dirty, the windows not opened and on one occasion we had to ask for a tablecloth to be removed which
had been covered in custard for two days. The tray by her chair looked like it never got wiped and we often wiped it down ourselves.
During the months our friend was there she never saw a chiropodist once and on leaving the care home we arranged for one to visit her at home. We left £100.00 at the care home for this service and for her to have her hair done by a hairdresser once a week. I asked if I could bring in an independent chiropodist only to be told "No". Our friend saw the hairdresser twice and then was told there was no hairdresser anymore.
The resident's lounges were never used as far as I could tell and we visited every day.
Reply from Rebecca Kellegher, Customer Service Adviser at St Mary's Care HomeThank you for you feedback. We have genuine regard for all of our residents, and we are sure to maintain high standards for them to live in a clean and safe environment. Residents are allowed to organise external therapies privately to come and assist with their care. Unless we have unforeseeable events within in the home such as illness, we still have regular weekly visits from our hairdresser. We will discuss your feedback with the homes Acting Manager to be sure we are continually improving our service.

My mum went to St Mary's at end of life. All the staff treated my mum with huge respect and dignity. Despite the fact that Mum couldn't communicate, they anticipated her needs and kept her scrumptiously clean and comfortable. They also were so helpful to myself and my family to keep us informed of Mum's
progress. Many, many thanks.

Grandma is looked after by the staff with the utmost care. The staff look after he mentally and all her physical needs. Her room has become her world, as she is unable to leave her bed. She has been able to move her own photos and pictures in. The walls could do with a new coat of paint, but otherwise,
it feels comfy.

I have found the staff so welcoming and friendly. They appreciate that I travel up from Devon and that once there, they allow me to stay as long as I want to. communicate. The staff care for Mum with the utmost respect and dignity. Thank you.

Very happy. A really lovely home, much better than the previous home. They asked for an autobiography of Mum, so they could talk to her, which I thought was lovely as they can talk about relevant information on her. They keep my mum very clean and tidy with clean hair. She's not with it at all but seems
very happy there, warm and content. Staff are so excellent and friendly, and call me by my first name! Also, let my dog come to visit; he loved it!

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.696)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.696) out of 10 for St Mary's Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 52 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 51 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.696 for St Mary's Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (459 Excellents x 5) + (128 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 608 Ratings = 4.696
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Mary's Care Home is based on 51 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 51 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
