Our Mother went into West Oak in July 2020, for residential dementia care. She died there on 21 May 2026. In that time, incl during Covid visiting restrictions, she was looked after with kindness, empathy & skill. The nursing staff & carers provide exemplary care & professionalism. We have always been especially grateful that the main dementia nursing team have remained the same for almost the whole of Mum's stay, which has meant they knew her and her needs so very well. Also the lead carers are long term, Mum was on affectionate terms with most of them. During the short period of decline leading up to her death everyone at West Oak provided care & support to Mum & us, her daughters, with diligence & genuine thoughtfulness for what was ahead. We are most grateful that at the end, Mum's nurse & carer were people she knew well & trusted. We were all in safe hands. Every member of the wider team is approachable & helpful. I think West Oak understands that staff are the most crucial thing.

Our late Mum, who was suffering from Dementia, received excellent service from all the staff at West Oak. She was well cared for for over 2 years, with understanding on behalf of the nurses and carers. If we needed to be informed of any changes to Mum's condition they did so. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Activiets are very good. Some carers are better than others eg. talking to residents while doing personal care.
The food on the whole is very good. Could be hotter.

There is a new manager and neither myself or my mother have met her.

My father was resident here for almost 3 years before he passed away. When he arrived he was very ill but the high level of care he received meant he recovered and began to flourish. EVERY member of staff is kind, caring, professional and always had dads best interest at heart, my family and I can not thank them enough for what they have done to enhance dads final years. We were always kept fully up to date with dad's various medical issues. His room was constantly tidied. His personal needs were a top priority and never at any point was he unattended for too long .. they even baked him a cake on his birthday . If you are looking to place a loved one at West Oak, I can not recommend this care home more highly. This was definitely the best choice we made for my dad's care.

My uncle is very well looked after by all the staff and when he became very anxious and confused they immediately helped him by contacting the GP, who gave him some medication and now he is happier, relaxed and sleeping well. The staff really care about his wellbeing and are on call whenever he needs them. This helps me too, to know I don't have to worry about anything.

My mum spent 2 weeks in respite care following a hospital admission.

The staff at West Oak Care Home have been so kind to my mum. On arrival at the care home, she was distraught as she wanted to go to her own home. All staff were so kind and patient with her on her arrival and managed to help her to calm down and settle in. This kindness and understanding continued throughout my mum's stay. Also communication with myself and my brother by staff has been excellent.

My Mother spent two weeks here over the Christmas period following a short stay in hospital which had left her not strong enough to go home straight away. The manager and staff could not have been more welcoming and she had a lovely comfortable room. She was very well cared for and nothing was too much trouble - I also felt reassured that she was in safe hands over what was a very busy family time for me. She even had her birthday there and they surprised her with a lovely cake! She had everything she needed to rest and recuperate before going back home.

My wife, Penelope, was admitted on 30th December 2025 for end of life care. She was in the terminal stages of pancreatic cancer and passed away at 10:25 on 11th January 2026. The care received during this time could not be faulted. She was treated with care and dignity to the very end. The rose placed on her body after she passed was a thoughtful gesture.

This is not our first respite care and we have always been impressed by West Oak care.
I wish to say that the nursing care remains excellent. I could not have wanted better attention from the nurses who had much to deal with. Staff as always, friendly and attentive.

However this time the cleaning of the bathroom was poor and, worse, an infection on A's big toe, clearly visible, was not noticed for at least three days so I do not feel his personal care was sufficiently well done.
