Barchester Chalfont Care Home is on the edge of Gerrards Cross Golf Course, just minutes from the pretty villages of Chalfont St Peter, Chalfont St Giles and Denham.

It sits in magnificent grounds with marvellous views across a picturesque lake and the fine fairways of the golf course; yet close to the M25, M40/A40.

The emphasis is on outstanding care, dignity and choice and how residents live their life.

There is an extensive activities programme, as well as their own music therapist, on-site physiotherapist, hairdresser manicurist and aromatherapist. They provide first-class 24-hour nursing care alongside expert care for people with dementia in the memory lane community.

I can not fault the home, the staff, or the care my dad is receiving. However, the thing that has disturbed me immensely, was my son picked my mother up from visiting my dad one afternoon, and there was a funeral directors van parked in front of the main entrance. As my mum was waiting at the lift to
take my dad back to his room, the lift opened and two funeral directors had a deceased resident in a bag, and transferred her through the main entrance, in front of visitors sat with residents, very distressing for all, including my son. Need to address this.

Mum has settled so well at Chalfont Lodge and is so happy there. The staff are amazing, especially the activity staff team, who are ingenious when it comes to designing both group activities and engaging residents in one to ones.
They are excellent at arranging special theme days - a pamper day was
a huge success this month, and Mum has enjoyed an outing to a local large supermarket with them as well.

The activity group took us out (four residents) to the local supermarket for shopping and then for coffee. We all had a very happy afternoon and the care was excellent.

On 14th of September, there was a boat trip up the river at Henley. It was well thought out and carried out. Much enjoyed by all.
On 23rd of October, four residents were taken to a supermarket in Amersham and afterwards for coffee and cake. A very happy afternoon again.
Well done to the activity ladies.

My dear mum has been at Chalfont Lodge Care Centre for about 10 months, the change we have seen in her since her arrival has been nothing short of amazing. She is happier, more aware, more engaged and improved in every aspect, physical and emotional. The staff and their commitment to my mum's comfort

Chalfont Lodge Care Centre has such good care that I've seen my grandma improve in leaps and bounds. The atmosphere is stimulating and she is always clean, dressed and tidy. Chalfont Lodge has brilliant facilities and activities, so our family knows when we're not visiting our grandma/mum/sister is
enjoying herself and staying active.

My mother has a strong personality which her illness transforms into so-called 'challenging behaviour'. For this reason other care facilities have previously turned their backs on her, sometimes quite cruelly.
From the time of her assessment for Chalfont Lodge (personally by the manager) she has been
treated as an individual, with kindness and understanding and enabled to regain her dignity. Best is the feeling that staff in all roles see through the problems arising from age and infirmity to the lovely lady that my mother still is - and can sometimes helpfully remind me of that. After previous tribulations it is a great relief to know that she is now valued and well cared for in a happy environment that also offers high standards of cleanliness and catering. All this despite issues with staff retention and recruitment, which afflict the care system (as currently organised) as a whole.

My late husband was a resident from the end of July to the day he died (28th of August 2016). He was very happy in his room and could see me arriving by car. The staff were based outside his room so could see when help was needed. Nursing care good. Had to be tube fed. I came to two activities during
his stay which I enjoyed. All staff very friendly.

I spent seven weeks at the above care home. Only had a problem with one of the staff. My experience was one of being looked after in a hotel. Excellent staff, food and being treated as a human and not just sat in a chair in front of a TV. The team that ran the activities were excellent as were most
of the staff.

My mum has been a resident at Chalfont Lodge for approximately 12 years. She has Alzheimer's disease. The care she has received during this time has been consistently outstanding. She is cared for and loved by the nurses. I am kept informed of her care, she is warm, clean and well fed. Her medical needs
are all looked after so we have nothing to worry about.


She is stimulated through regular activities and although she has advanced Alzheimer's, she is always included. My family and I have been devastated with the prognosis of her Alzheimer's and the home has supported us throughout the years. Thank you to all the wonderful staff.

During 2016 the Sunningdale unit at Chalfont Lodge has been transformed. It has become a model which delivers consistently effective and compassionate care to its residents.
In nearly 7 years of association with the Sunningdale unit, the standard of care has never been so high.
It's finally become
a joy to visit our son, who is in long-term care.
Whilst the management of the home can take credit for the recruitment and development of such a highly competent team of people, they must also acknowledge their responsibility to maintain the motivation and morale of the staff involved.

I have always heard from my friend about how well she is being looked after - kind carer, delicious food. I would only say that sometimes her room is rather untidy and cluttered (but that is probably her fault)
As a visitor, I feel known and welcomed by the staff - rather like a 4-star hotel.

My wife is looked after extremely well by carers, nurses and all the staff.
She is treated with respect and everyone here has always got a smile and a greeting when they see her in her wheelchair.
She can be quite aggressive when being washed and in the shower, but the staff just smile and say "we
understand".
It is a great relief to me that she is here, in a well-managed house.
