Alexandra House is situated in lovely grounds and next to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow. This spacious home provides care for older people, older people with dementia and nursing care. All the bedrooms and lounges are beautifully furnished with wall-mounted flat screen televisions. The en-suites are fitted with light sensors to turn on the lights to aid those cared for and also contribute towards a greener environment.

The home has an area specifically designed for relaxation with soft fibre optic lights, oils to promote a sense of well being and peaceful pictures. A dedicated area for dementia care is designed to enable those cared for to maintain independence in a safe environment.

A lovely experience, all the staff so helpful and smiley, so good with Mum, they know her so well and I have got to know all the staff and can ask anything of them. They all work so hard and it's a pleasure to come into Alexandra House and always have a great welcome.

After making a very hard decision to put mum into a nursing home, it was the best decision myself and family made. She was so very happy there, all her whims were catered for. Just a shame covid was here because she missed out on many activities and visits from many friends and relatives. Everybody
was kind, considerate, I can't praise Alexandra House enough. Thanking you all from my heart.

Our Mum had Alzheimer's and became very ill as was refusing care at home. Eventually, in August 2020, we made the difficult decision to admit Mum to Alexandra House, Cherry Unit. This was the best thing we did for Mum. The care and support that she received were outstanding. The staff kept us at the
forefront of Mum's care, informing us of any changes in Mum's condition or care needs. They always appeared happy to speak to us, even when we were phoning daily. During covid-19 visiting restrictions, the staff were extremely helpful in facilitating FaceTime and window visits with Mum. Mum had hearing problems, and they would sit with her patiently during visits in order that they could explain who we were and tell her what we were saying. Without which, we would not have been able to communicate with Mum. Mum sadly passed away on 19/12/20, but during the period of Mum receiving palliative care, the staff went out both their way to support us as a family during this difficult time. We feel very fortunate that Mum spent her last months withing a warm, caring and loving environment, in the care of truly professional staff.

I feel very lucky my father is in such a wonderful home. This year have been so challenging, but having the relief of knowing my dad is being looked after to the level he is - it's such a relief. The staff are so welcoming and caring; they always know what he needs without him being able to communicate.
The home is clean and modern. I'm always kept up to date - couldn't be happier.

The level of care during the day and the attention of the staff is first class. There are some incredible people working there who truly do care for the residents. My father-in-law was a resident there until he passed away and now my mother is there and I have seen first hand for some time how good
some of these carers are.

The staff and nurses at Alexandra House have treated my mother exceptionally well. She is comfortable, content and really feels cared for. She recently has a stint in the hospital, where she was miserable and neglected. The moment she returned to the home, she perked up and asked for ' a cup of tea'!
Her health had steadily improved since.
Staff are also fantastic at listening to the family. They generally care and keep us informed.

Staff and management excellent.
Very obliging and will sort any problems swiftly if necessary. My friend is currently bed-bound so is not using many facilities or the activities but they appear to be very good.

First and foremost all of the staff are friendly and will always assist any questions if they are able to. Nothing is too much trouble. My mother has been resident for about a year now and has a far better care and activity than she did at home. My father came in for respite in December but unfortunately,
he has been given permanent placement due to a stroke and dementia. It appears that the home is always being decorated which is first class. Furniture, kitchens and flooring also being updated and room furniture. This is impressive as the old furniture is in good condition.

Very happy with level of care for my mum. Care home is spotless and can't fault personal hygiene. Carers/nurses and all staff friendly and caring and my mum seems very relaxed and comfortable. Great entertainment put on special days with activities - very impressed so far.

Mum has been well looked after for the past twenty-one months and the staff are friendly and helpful. Staff are quick to resolve any issues or problems that have occurred that we have brought to their attention. The management team have an open-door policy and will listen and do their best to implement
any reasonable suggestions. A very welcoming and approachable team, helping to put loved ones' wellbeing first.

Caring, considerate, loving, professional and honest. My mum is treated with warmth and upmost respect. She is supported in every way as am I when it's needed. All at Alexander House are our new adopted family as are we to them.

My husband has only been in this care home since March this year. As well as Dementia, he also needs nursing care. All the staff understand his needs and give him the care he requires at all times. If there has been a health problem and he needed to transfer to hospital, I have always been informed.
Alexandra House is a friendly care home and I am satisfied with my husbands' placement there.

My mother first entered Alexandra House in September 2018. From the very first day she was treated with kindness and respect, always kept clean and well fed and looked after to a very high standard. I can't praise enough the nursing staff and carers for their help in looking after my mother in the final
month of her life. The management and staff are very helpful and friendly. Thank you all.

Carly Harris

Job Title: Home Manager

I began my career in the care sector in 2008, and over the past 17 years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings, including hospitals. I started as a care assistant and gradually progressed through roles as a senior carer, deputy manager, and now, home manager.


I’ve been part of the Alexandra House family for the past five years, initially joining as a Night CTL before becoming Deputy Manager. Many of you may already know me from the Strawberry Unit or from seeing me around the home.


What truly sets Alexandra House apart for me is the strong sense of family among our team and the unwavering commitment to putting our residents first. Our staff go above and beyond every day, and I’m proud to be part of such a dedicated group.


My door is always open, and I look forward to meeting you, whether it’s during a visit with your loved one or at one of our monthly relatives' meetings.

Peter Nunn

Job Title: Home Administrator Joined: 2015

I have been in the role for almost 10 years; February 2025 will mark my tenth year with Runwood Homes. I really have enjoyed my time to date with Alexandra House. We have a great team here, and it’s a pleasure to work with them; also, the management team is very supportive. I like pretty much all aspects of the role; it is a very demanding and rewarding role.


In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my partner and children. I also enjoy sports, mainly football and tennis; I am a bit of a Tottenham Hotspur supporter.

Martin Mares

Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2020

My name is Martin. I grew up in Slovakia and spent 4 years studying to be a chef before moving to the UK. I came to the UK for a holiday and decided I liked it here and wasn’t going home! I took a role in retail to gain confidence in the English language before joining a renowned care provider as a kitchen assistant. Within 3 months I had advanced to chef and then very quickly to Head Chef.  It was a whole new experience learning about English cuisine and our quirky likes and dislikes; baking was a completely new experience, as I had not experienced this at home. My passion for my chosen career kept me in this role for 6 years, working across three different sites. I took the opportunity to progress to Regional Chef which involved menu planning, audits, recruitment, training, and writing policies, a role I continued in for 4 years.


I happened to see an advert for Head Chef at Alexandra House, which is very local to me and decided it was time to go for a change. I joined Alexandra House 4 months ago and have seen joining Runwood as a great career move. I love the friendliness of the team and the great management of Alexandra House, where I feel a highly valued member of the team.


I feel passionately that food is of the utmost importance to our residents and should be a high-quality, enriching experience at every mealtime for all. I aim to accommodate individual tastes, and if there is a particular food that a resident favours that is not on the menu, I will ensure we make it available for them. It is important for me to meet new residents when they arrive to discuss their preferences and any allergies alongside any needs for a modified diet.


“My plan for the summer is to hold international food days; Italian is my favourite to cook! Tasting days for the residents are something I am extremely excited about; let their tastes help steer the direction of our menus.”

Judith Buenafe

Hello, my name is Judith, and I am the Deputy Manager here at Alexandra House. I bring over 12 years of experience in caring for elderly people, including those living with dementia. I began my journey at Alexandra House as a care assistant in 2012 and have worked my way up through various roles to become Deputy Manager.


I truly enjoy collaborating with our team to deliver the highest quality, person-centred care to all our residents. Every aspect of my role brings me joy, as it allows me to make a meaningful difference in their lives.


In my spare time, I am an active member of my church, where I also sing in the choir.
