After many weeks in hospital my mum who is 88 years old made the decision she could no longer live alone as she required 24 hour care and wanted to be looked after. I did some research in our area for a care home that had good reviews and rating. We found Manor Lodge and went to have a look around
and really liked it. After being discharged from hospital the decision was made for my mum to go to Manor Lodge and I contacted Karla who made the procedure so easy without any stress. My mum has now been at Manor Lodge since the start of December 2025 and is now starting to relax and enjoy being part of this lovely care home as a permanent resident. The staff have been so welcoming, helpful and caring which has helped massively with this difficult decision/move we have had to make and is reassuring mum is being cared for so well. The care she has is excellent and that she has carers 24 hours a day if required. Thank you so much to Karla and all the staff for looking after my mum.

On top of Christmas I had a massive challenge of finding respite for my Mum. Fortunately I had a connection with Care UK in Newbury as my Aunty is in the dementia suite. It's been really hard not to compare homes.

Emotionally I have been supported remarkably as it was a hard decision & a massive

thing for Mum to go into respite.
We extended Mum's respite care from 2 to 3 weeks which was a massive step for Mum showing how comfortable & content she was in care.

On admission there were a few hiccups with the room & paperwork however immediately these were addressed & an apology was accepted.

My Mum is a very quiet & private person however I can't tell you how your wonderful staff have cared & supported her. They have managed her anxiety and it's lovely to see the close relationships formed between them. Mum's even had her hair done!

I have no hesitation than to recommend Manor Lodge. Mum will need respite possibly permanent care in the future & Manor Lodge will be our go to.

To all the staff working on the St Clere ward,

Thanks so much for caring for my dad, Alan Porter.

He was treated with such kindness and dignity- we are forever grateful. Thank you.

Also, we received much compassion and care, too. Thank you!

All our best wishes,

Kathryn (Alan's daughter)

My wife, Linda, entered Manor Lodge in November as her dementia was becoming increasingly difficult to manage at home. Upon arrival she was made very welcome and has settled in without any problems. My Mother was cared for at a different care home and Manor Lodge compares very favourably. Manor Lodge
has a very good reputation and has been recommended by a number of friends including one who has a relative living there. My sister in law has worked there. It has occasionally featured in the local press and so it was my first choice of a residential home. I have been impressed by the care my wife has received which surpasses what I could manage at home. The staff have a very positive attitude and nothing seems too much trouble. There are plenty of activities for residents and the food is very good which I have sampled on a number of occasions and there is a choice of menu. I would not hesitate to recommend Manor Lodge

My Mother was due to have hip repair surgery but complications arose when it was identified that she had a serious infection around the hip area. This necessitated a c9 week stay in hospital and the hip repair could not be fully completed, leaving her unable to weight bear when standing. We quickly
identified that she would need respite care when released and Manor Lodge came strongly recommended. My Sister, wife and I visited Karla at the Home and she gave us a guided tour and answered our many questions. When released from hospital the Care Home team went out of their way to accommodate our Mother, despite only having 24 hours notice, for which we cannot thank them enough. Subsequent visits confirm that our Mother is very well looked after. Her room has recently been refurbished and she appears to want for nothing and all of the staff are very friendly and helpful. A highly recommended Care Home.

I attended an evening session at Manor Lodge about nutrition and hydration. The session was delivered by the Head Chef and was informative and entertaining. Marcin explained how they prepare the meals and drinks adding flavour and supplements to optimise nutritional and fluid intake. I enjoyed sampling
some of the food and drinks! My relative used to love her food but is unable to eat a normal diet, I now feel reassured that she will be able to enjoy all the flavours of a Christmas dinner in a manageable form. Thank you for the session and to the catering staff for their skills and commitment to the residents.

Due to unforeseen circumstances my husband and I needed to find respite care for my Mother & Father in law urgently. After calling several homes in the area, Manor Lodge were the only home willing to work with us to get an assessment done within 24 hours to enable admission the very next day.

We

were so very pleased with everything. The facility is well run, has wonderful staff and parents were very well cared for. They reported to us that the food was wonderful and they had no complaints about anything. They were in Manor Lodge for 2 weeks. During that two weeks, and due to the rushed nature of their admission, there were a few minor issues to sort out and every single time we approached any member of staff our issues were immediately resolved. As I said before, I cannot rate the staff more highly, everyone was so friendly, so caring and so helpful. It's like everyone is part of one big happy family. I cannot recommend Manor Lodge more highly.

My mother spent two and a half weeks in the home while I was on holiday. I phoned her most evenings and she was quite happy there. A few friends visited her and she walked around the garden with them. She said all the staff were lovely and she knew she could ask them for help. She talked a lot to other
residents and enjoyed the company. Her room was right next to the reception and facing the carpark so Mum did find it quite noisy and she often woke very early. It wasn't easy to see the TV from the armchair but she didn't mind that. She enjoyed her lunches but found the 4.30pm meal too early to eat again. But then in the evening around 6 or 7 pm she felt hungry. At home, in her bungalow, that's when she would have a sandwich. She enjoyed her stay and would be happy to stay again. Thank you for looking after her.

Manor Lodge Care Home has truly transformed our mother's life. Before moving, she faced repeated hospitalisations and serious infections, and we feared the worst. Since arriving, the attentive, skilled team has given her a new lease of life, her medications are expertly managed, and she now engages
daily in a wide range of activities and events. The leadership, nursing, and care staff all work together with exceptional professionalism, and even the dining experience is outstanding. We have no hesitation in praising this CQC 'Outstanding' rated home, fully deserving of its reputation.

We recently searched for respite care for my mother-in-law after she had a nasty fall, while also giving my father-in-law a chance to get some much-needed rest. From the moment we visited Manor Lodge, we were struck by the warm welcome and the genuine "home from home" atmosphere. One staff member in
particular was incredibly friendly, taking the time to explain everything in detail, and her responsiveness was greatly appreciated and she put our minds at ease. The whole team showed such kindness and consideration - respecting my mother-in-law's need for space, while gently encouraging her to join in activities to help keep her mobile. The food was excellent - tasty, well presented, and always varied. We were especially impressed by how thoughtful the staff were in accommodating her individual eating needs. The overall standard of care was outstanding. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and we felt reassured knowing she was in such capable and compassionate hands.

My mum has been a resident at Manor lodge for a month now and has settled in very well . All the staff there are very attentive to all her needs and are very quick to resolve any issues that arise .
We had no hesitation in placing mum here as my dad was here 9 years ago in the nursing area . He recieved
excellent care and was treated with the utmost dignity and respect . There are still quite a few of the same staff working here ,so that shows what a lovely place it is to work .
Mums room is bright and spacious with her own en-suite facilities. It is kept clean at all times . All laundry is turned around quickly and the food is of a very high standard .
Mum enjoys the various daily activities from the pub quiz to armchair yoga and bingo .
The garden and courtyard are lovely for daily exercise and fresh air with plenty of seating for visitors .
I would 100% recommend Manor lodge to anyone looking for a Carehome for their loved one .

My Mum received excellent care at Manor Lodge. From her original time in the residential community and then, as her illness progressed to the nursing unit.
The carers were attentive and responsive. Mum was treated with dignity and respect. The nurses in the unit were compassionate, patient and professional
and always happy to answer my many questions.
Mum's end of life care was exceptional. Both she, and us as a family, were so well looked after. Nothing was too much trouble.
The home itself is clean and modern. There is always plenty going on, music, crafts, games and outings. The food is excellent. There are regular meetings for family members where the management team actively encourage feedback and it is acted upon.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Manor Lodge and its wonderful team.

I looked round Manor Lodge care home as I needed a weeks respite care after having a hip replacement and I was not disappointed. The management are friendly and enthusiastic, which instills confidence and they "deliver the goods", as it were. The care and support I received was absolutely amazing.
The care assistants are fun, caring, patient, so easy to talk to, nothing is too much trouble and they helped me as much or as little as I needed.
The food is wonderful, delicious and portions were tailored to my needs, especially as I went "off piste" with the menu, the chef and assistants were extremely accommodating. My bedroom was large as was my en-suite, so I didn't feel "hemmed in" at all, as I do tend to spread my stuff around. Everywhere was really clean and well tended, the garden areas are lovely, with several different areas and there is a couple of coffee machines, which is useful.
There's plenty of space to walk around inside and out and I felt safe everywhere.

After completing a lot of research I decided to book my father into Manor Lodge for a respite period. My father is 93 years old and has dementia. He still retains a great sense of humour and passion for life but can get confused. The break gave my partner and I an opportunity for some rest and a break
from the care we provide every day. I thought it might be a difficult period for my father but he returned home with a big smile on his face and said how much he had enjoyed his stay in 'the hotel'. I would like to thank all the staff at Manor Lodge for their good work and for making Dad's stay an enjoyable one. It has been a blessing for all of us and it was money well spent. The facilities were extremely clean and whenever I visited the clients were obviously enjoying their experience. There was laughter and singing and good food. I am sure my Dad will be happy to return in the future and I can rest assured that he will be cared for and supported well. Thank you for all you do.

We cannot thank Manor Lodge staff enough for everything they did to care for our gran, Iris, who came into their care in April 2020. Everyone without exception has been so kind and considerate. During her time at Manor Lodge staff really looked after gran, and us as her immediate family. She received
the very highest standard of care and was very happy here. It was a very challenging period at the start of covid when gran took up residence here but staff made the transition work smoothly and went the extra mile to make gran feel at home and safe. We have such happy memories of many visits and time spent with gran. In fact, the staff became part of her family. Their care and love for her was genuine and heartfelt and she was treated with dignity and respect. This continued when gran sadly became ill and passed away. She was given a guard of honour by staff on duty who paid their respects, which was very touching. We feel so lucky she was a resident here for so long. Thank you!

I had no hesitation in placing my mother into care at Manor Lodge as my father received exceptional care there. The professionalism of all the senior staff in all departments gives me the reassurance that my mother is in good hands. I like the fact that i am involved with her monthly care review this
gives me peace of mind and i can discuss any concerns. All the staff are helpful polite and understanding with a willingness to please. Mother is encouraged to join in with the activities and it is lovely to see her smiling and singing once again. She loves having her hair done and says the food is good and the chef comes up with new ideas to encourage her to eat. Placing my mother in care was very concerning for me but i can honestly say for nearly a year now Manor Lodge have taken exceptional good care of her and mother is very settled. Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.853 for Manor Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (592 Excellents x 5) + (76 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 680 Ratings = 4.853
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Manor Lodge is based on 58 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24, which has been reached with 58 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I joined Care UK and Manor Lodge because Care UK has an excellent reputation nationwide, and I love the way they promote personal and professional growth of colleagues. Care UK’s values align with my personal values, I love leading my team to work cohesively and help develop them to deliver outstanding and person-centred care.

As a Home manager, I believe it’s important to be honest, have integrity, empathy and being able to self-reflect and use every opportunity to learn, improve and develop. It’s also important to have great communication and listening skills and be a team player. Since being with Care UK my proudest achievement has been retaining our Outstanding quality rating, critiqued by the Care Quality Commission, with the inspector quoting “We found a care home with a strong commitment to delivering person-centred care that often exceeds the needs of the people they support.”

My favourite part of my working day is getting to chat to the residents, relatives, and colleagues; it’s great to see how well colleagues are doing and get great feedback of our home.

In my free time I enjoy being a mum and looking after my cat and dog. I love to cook for my family and friends, watch my son play football on the weekend and spend time with my family. I love visiting all my family back in Poland and I’d never say no to a cheesy rom com!
