We booked our uncle in for respite care after a fall and hip replacement. He has other complex needs that require monitored medication and diet. Staff have been kind, respectful and attentive and have sought additional medical support when required. Communication between Manor Lodge and our family has
been faultless. Overall the service is excellent, it is a great relief to know that our uncle is in a safe, supportive and well-managed environment.

My father has been in Manor Lodge since the 11th of December. We had to arrange his stay as I had a medical procedure booked that will involve a six to eight week recovery. From the initial phone call that I made to Manor Lodge, I have found the management and staff to be very professional people, but
they have a very caring and courteous way of dealing with their clients and their families. I can honestly say that every member of staff have been wonderful to my father and to me, and whatever I have requested for him has been carried out quickly and courteously. The staff treat my father kindly and politely and nothing is too much trouble for them. Obviously I had concerns about my father going to a home, but I need not have worried, I am delighted with every aspect of my father's care. He has not yet started to get involved with the many and various daily activities, but every day the staff try to encourage him. I cannot speak highly enough of Manor Lodge, I know that my father is safe and cared for.

The home appears bright and clean and purposeful and recently built. Staff are plentiful, caring and helpful. Rooms are small but contain their own en-suite. There appear to be plenty of activities for residents. Relatives can come and go as they please. There are plenty of coffee and cake places. Staff
are all cheerful and appear to learn the Christian names of new residents very quickly.

A truly welcoming care home. From the moment one enters, one is met by warmth. It is light and spacious. All the staff are caring and receptive to any requests, either from residents or relatives. I speak from the experience of two years visiting my father, and I know that he is loved and well cared
for. As a visitor, I also feel that the care extends to us as well.

My dad became a resident at Manor Lodge in April 2023, he was in a very weakened state. Dad had reservations about entering the care environment but after one day said to me "I love it here and I don't want to go home". Manor Lodge gave Dad the comfort of always feeling safe, knowing help was on hand
24/7. He loved the staff who were, without exception, kind to him and I witnessed the gentleness of staff to residents when they did not know they were being observed.
As Dad's family, I had 100% peace of mind that he was being looked after.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Manor Lodge, I feel the staff became friends both to my dad and my family.
It's scary to place a loved one in care but if you choose Manor Lodge don't even consider they won't be cared for well, they will be.
Reply from Karla Smith, Reviews Team at Manor LodgeHi Sue, thank you very much for taking the time to leave us feedback about your experience. It was our absolute pleasure to be able to be part of Dad's life. We will miss him dearly.

Manor Lodge has truly been a blessing for our mum, especially after a challenging year. Our first interaction with Karla set the tone for the exceptional care and dedication we've experienced throughout our journey. Karla's extraordinary efforts to secure a room for our mother as a matter of urgency,
understanding that independent living was no longer safe, left a lasting impression.

The entire staff has been exceptional in addressing our mother's needs, and their swift adjustment of her medication led to a remarkable transformation in just days. What distinguishes Manor Lodge is the unwavering commitment of their staff, who radiate happiness, friendliness, and approachability.

Knowing that our mum is in the hands of such a dedicated and compassionate team provides us with priceless peace of mind. Manor Lodge's positive impact on our family and, most importantly, on our Mum is immeasurable. Words cannot adequately express our profound gratitude.

My mother was a resident in Manor Lodge seven years ago. Now my 102 year old aunt is a resident - some staff still working there from seven years ago!
Excellent care from the staff.
Lots of activities and interaction from the activity staff (2 of which were working when Mum was a resident).
Highly
recommend this care home to others.

My mother has been at Manor Lodge (Chelmsford) for a few months now, initially in the care section and recently in the nursing care section. The staff are very attentive, friendly, informative and always looking out for the residents in a genuinely kind and caring manner. Our family's frequent visits
are always welcomed and we always have immediate access to my Mother. The staff are very proactive in encouraging social interaction with other residents. The nursing care which we recently experienced has been exceptionally professional. All staff were very helpful in my Mother's transition from care to nursed sections and proactively kept us informed of all steps and our many concerns. Staff in both sections are very regular in checking in on my Mother to make sure all is well and all her needs are being met. The building is pleasant and functional. I would thoroughly recommend this care home and its wonderful staff. I sleep much easier knowing that she is being so well cared for.

We chose Manor Lodge in the first instance due to the CQC grading of outstanding. Following a joint visit, we grilled the staff about all of our concerns. Our questions were answered fully and we found the staff to be very friendly, even those who were just met in passing. Many of the staff have been
here for some years, which is reassuring. The venue is clean and tidy. The food is good and they have a good activity regime. Nothing seems to be too much trouble. Staff regularly pop in to check on Mum during our visits, again very reassuring.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.858)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.858) out of 10 for Manor Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 56 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 56 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.858 for Manor Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (573 Excellents x 5) + (73 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 656 Ratings = 4.858
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Manor Lodge is based on 56 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24, which has been reached with 56 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Natasha Webster

Job Title: Home Manager

Hi, I'm Natasha Webster, the Home Manager at Manor Lodge.

I am a qualified Registered Nurse and have completed the Future Home Manager training with Care UK. I previously worked as Deputy Manager at Manor Lodge and, before joining Care UK six years ago, I was a Clinical Nurse Specialist at a local hospice in Surrey. After supporting a Care UK home as a CNS, I was inspired by the happy atmosphere and compassionate team, which led me to apply for a Clinical Nurse Manager role.

A care home manager should be compassionate and values-driven, promoting dignity, safety and person-centred care. Strong leadership, emotional intelligence, and sound clinical and governance knowledge are essential to ensure high standards and support both residents and staff.

My favourite part of the day is walking around the home, seeing residents and staff happy, and watching meaningful moments and achievements unfold.

Outside of work, my family and I enjoy WWII re-enactment weekends, 1940s swing jive dancing with my daughter, and I also enjoy crochet and knitting.

My biggest career highlight has been becoming a Home Manager. I’m proud of the difference we make in residents’ lives each day and supporting staff to grow. The most important part of my role is ensuring residents are happy and safe, and that staff feel supported to develop and progress.
