Each time I visit my aunt everywhere looks clean and tidy and very organised. The carers are always so kind and compassionate towards all the other service users. Sometimes my aunt's mood swings can ve very challenging, but the staff are always very patient with her, Several people I know have relatives
in Manor Lodge and always speak very highly of the quality of care they receive. Thank you everyone.

I am very happy that my Mum is being well cared for at Manor Lodge. Every member of staff that I have met in the 22 months that Mum has lived at Manor Lodge has been cheerful, always ready to give time and go beyond the call of duty to help Mum and the family to feel at home and loved. This is much
more important than looks. However, my only criticism would be that personal presentation of Mum could be attended to. She used to take care with her presentation: hair, a necklace, clean fingernails, well co-ordinated clothes more than now!
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Manor LodgeThank you for your feedback – we’re delighted to hear your wonderful comments around the quality of care we provide at Manor Lodge, although we understand you have some concerns regarding your mother’s appearance. Now that the home manager, Juliana, has had the opportunity to discuss this with you directly, we fully appreciate the level to which your mother likes to be presented and that she takes great pride in her appearance. Juliana has shared this with the Clinical Lead and we’ve added it your mother’s care plan so that we can ensure everyone’s expectations are met going forward.

My 91-year-old, blind, father needed 2 weeks recovery following a pacemaker procedure. He arrived directly from the hospital and was settled into his ensuite room. Due to the Coronavirus precautions, he was isolated in his room for 10 days. During this time, staff interacted with him and made sure he
received our phone calls and could listen to the TV in his room. Nothing was too much trouble. Once self-isolation was complete and lat flow tests negative, he appreciated being taken into the garden area and integrating into the unit community. There were quizzes and music and others to talk with. He came home looking much better than he went in! Staff are very competent and kind. His needs were well met. Thank you.

We chose Manor Lodge as there was a very good atmosphere amongst the staff and the residents were happy and engaged. The manager is passionate about her job with a good knowledge of residents’ needs and is always looking at ways to improve things. Mum had dementia and found it difficult to adjust at
first, but her carers were very good at getting a smile out of her, and she very much enjoyed the attention as well as the freshly cooked food. I never felt bad about leaving her as the staff went to a lot of trouble to make her feel comfortable. The onsite provision of physio care is valuable for people trying to recover mobility and also the infirm. There are lots of activities for the residents, no matter how immobile. Every resident is treated as an individual and their preferences remembered by their carers. Visitors are always made to feel welcome with several open events a year where relatives can meet other relatives and carers in a carnival atmosphere.

It is hard to put into words how professional, loving and simply wonderful the manager and all her team were in caring for our mother. Within a couple of weeks of arriving, she was a different person, despite her Alzheimers. She was looked after impeccably, by all members of staff. Always dressed and
showered, and never once found her in her room when I visited. She was engaged in the activities within days, which was certainly not the case in her previous care home. The staff dealt with all Mum's little foibles with love and humour, to which she responded in kind. Her trust in them was complete. When Mum came for a trip out, she was always ready, not an easy achievement, as I well know.
Mum's end of life care, was impeccable. The staff were so very supportive of all the family, we were truly blessed to be at Manor Lodge for her passing. I cannot speak highly enough of the all the team - true superstars, all of them.

The pre-admission procedure was excellent, a great deal of time invested by the manager and senior care staff at all points to ensure we were happy. The in-house physiotherapy service is a rare commodity and excellent, major factor in our choice of care home. Manor Lodge has an excellent staff team
at all levels, who take a genuine interest in the residents and offer a high standard of care. My only thought is a welcome pack for new residents and relatives would be good - basic info, meal times etc.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, PA to Marketing Director at Manor LodgeThank you for taking the time to write a review for Manor Lodge and your positive scoring, including the excellent rating for the management of the home, the care and support provided to residents and the overall standard of the home. We’re also pleased to read your very kind comments regarding our staffing and care team, as well as our in-house physiotherapy service. We value all feedback and thank you for your thoughts around welcome packs detailing helpful information for new residents and relatives. Our values at Manor Lodge are, to be honest, and transparent and so we welcome this idea and will, of course, pass your thoughts and comments on to the home manager and our support team for implementation and review of current provisions. We thank you once again for your much-appreciated comments.

My grandmother suffers from advanced dementia. The dementia suite is outstanding. They care for my nan as if she is in her own home, allowing her to take risks, nurturing her interests, providing dignity. Each area within the home - activities, catering, housekeeping - work beyond expectation. They
really have become part of our extended family, each and every one.

The staff at Manor Lodge are fantastic. They genuinely care for their residents and treat them like family. This is all staff, nurses, carers, catering, cleaners and admin. They were all wonderful to my mum. My mum lived six months longer than was expected and I know this was due to the dedication of
the whole team at Manor Lodge. I cannot thank them enough for their kindness to my mum and to us.

My mum was unable to take care of herself and has been in Manor Lodge since July 2018. I can't praise the care home enough, from the management to all the staff their care and kindness I couldn't ask for more for my mum and I know when I walk away she is so well looked after and very safe. No matter
what time or what day I go her care remains the same I'm 100% rested knowing my mum is in the best care home.

Manor Lodge. What can I say? Superlatives are not nearly enough. My experience, having visited many other 'establishments', was jaundiced. From the moment I was greeted, on entering Manor Lodge, the care taken to answer all my concerns, to the welcome my mother as the resident received, was excellent.
I wondered if it could be maintained. I need not have worried. Manor Lodge exceeded my and my mother's expectations. The staff, without exception, to both of us, were superb, caring and resident focused. My mother's room was all that she needed, that she could, and did, individualise to her wishes. Hygiene was and is a priority, and food and fluids monitored to promote well-being - both varied and a good flavourful selection - with cakes and pastries to tempt the pallet. Likened to a hotel stay, I have and do unreservedly recommend to all. There will be those who expect the earth, or perfection, both are unrealistic. For the most precious life, my mother's, I had trusted her care to Manor Lodge. Not a day passed when I or she felt that trust was misplaced.

It is an honour and a privilege to be able to enter a review on Manor Lodge Chelmsford. I can honestly rate Manor Lodge as an outstanding aged care facility and question whether there is another home that’s equal in their delivery of care and attention. My mother lived here for 7 months prior to her
passing and l can say without a shadow of a doubt, her happiness shone like a shining star. Everywhere l go, I give a glowing recommendation and my rating 100%.
Manor Lodge is led from the top and it’s evident in every level of service.
Thank you, Manor Lodge, from the bottom of my heart and you will forever be in my thoughts.
You are a credit to the caring profession.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.858)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.858) out of 10 for Manor Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 56 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 56 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.858 for Manor Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (573 Excellents x 5) + (73 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 656 Ratings = 4.858
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Manor Lodge is based on 56 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24, which has been reached with 56 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Natasha Webster

Job Title: Home Manager

Hi, I'm Natasha Webster, the Home Manager at Manor Lodge.

I am a qualified Registered Nurse and have completed the Future Home Manager training with Care UK. I previously worked as Deputy Manager at Manor Lodge and, before joining Care UK six years ago, I was a Clinical Nurse Specialist at a local hospice in Surrey. After supporting a Care UK home as a CNS, I was inspired by the happy atmosphere and compassionate team, which led me to apply for a Clinical Nurse Manager role.

A care home manager should be compassionate and values-driven, promoting dignity, safety and person-centred care. Strong leadership, emotional intelligence, and sound clinical and governance knowledge are essential to ensure high standards and support both residents and staff.

My favourite part of the day is walking around the home, seeing residents and staff happy, and watching meaningful moments and achievements unfold.

Outside of work, my family and I enjoy WWII re-enactment weekends, 1940s swing jive dancing with my daughter, and I also enjoy crochet and knitting.

My biggest career highlight has been becoming a Home Manager. I’m proud of the difference we make in residents’ lives each day and supporting staff to grow. The most important part of my role is ensuring residents are happy and safe, and that staff feel supported to develop and progress.
