Manor Lodge was one of many homes I saw, trying to place my uncle. It was a difficult decision, but Manor Lodge reflected the atmosphere and respect he got at home. It was an easy move, which totally surprised me after 89 years in his home. Manor Lodge suited him perfectly, having dementia and COPD
but still enjoying chats and quite sociable, just not safe enough on his own. Baddow ward team have worked hard to integrate him and meet his needs, despite him being quite stubborn sometimes. I felt included in the crossover of his care and always felt listened to. My suggestions were valued and carried out. What I most like is everyone knows his back story, to engage him in conversations that he is interested in. I see him come alive when certain activities start especially at meal times. Amazing chef and team. Super lounge, garden and cake when visiting. He loves it and I was listened to carefully about foods he would like. He was barely eating at home but now enjoys all meals. This is a lovely home.
Reply from Karla Smith, Reviews Team at Manor LodgeWe are so grateful for you spending the time to leave this touching review. It is lovely that you have spoken about all colleagues knowing his back story it is so important to really get to know each resident individually. Your uncle is a great character.

The staff were very quick to respond to a need for respite care at short notice.
Mum was supported and well cared for at a difficult and confusing time for her by professional staff in nice surroundings. She was encouraged to engage in activities where she felt able and supported when she needed to
withdraw more.

The Manor Lodge team were amazing when my mother-in-law came to stay for short-term respite when we went away on holiday.
She said she particularly enjoyed the food, the attention to her needs and the general friendliness of all of the staff who helped care for her.
As a family, we are immensely
grateful to the Manor Lodge team and hope she will be able to return again next year.

My Mother stayed at Manor Lodge for 2 weeks, straight from hospital discharge following hip replacement surgery. Despite being 88, my mum is still extremely independent and happily lives on her own. I work full-time and was unable to give mum the level of care she needed following her operation, so
she reluctantly agreed to a short stay in a care home. We needn't have worried! Mum looks back very fondly on her time at Manor Lodge. The staff are brilliant and the quality of care outstanding. The home appears to be extremely well led and organised; any concerns we had (which were few) were addressed immediately and effectively. Her ensuite room was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The food was excellent and my mum was able to enjoy a glass of red wine with every lunch and evening meal! My family always received a warm welcome from staff, and we knew that she was being extremely well looked after and making great progress following her surgery.

My mum is still in the settling in stage and all the staff have been brilliant at supporting us with this massive transition. Manor Lodge is nothing short of a 5-star hotel with lovely, kind, smiling staff. Residents are truly treated as individuals so rooms can be made as close to home as you wish
and residents are divided into appropriate ' communities'. All visitors are able to help themselves to tea and cake in the cafe and courtyard which makes visiting times really enjoyable. The gardens are beautifully kept and quiet so Mum loves sitting out there. The activities are really well thought out and varied. Manor Lodge is not what you envisage a care home to be, it's like a little village with so many different parts. Mum especially loves the meals and hairdresser's!

My Dad had a three-week respite spell at Manor Care and I couldn't praise the staff more. From the moment you walk in, the friendly and happy atmosphere is apparent. The home is very clean and light, with lots of outdoor space.
As a family, we were obviously nervous about the care he would receive,
but it was clear from the outset that this was misplaced.
Thank you to all the staff for their dedicated, professional and friendly attitude throughout his stay.

It is one of the hardest decisions for anyone to place a loved one into a care home. The lovely staff at Manor Lodge helped me realise there isn't a right or wrong time to do it, so Dad moved in early one evening, in the middle of the week and immediately the heavy weight I had been carrying around
with me lifted. Dad is no longer lonely, he looks healthier and happier, he is eating better, socialising and moving about more. I no longer worry so much about him, knowing that help is at hand if he needs it. I visit him regularly and in a very short space of time, I have already gotten to know so many other staff and residents by their first names.
You cannot hide the fact it's expensive, all care homes are, but for all those daughters/sons/husbands and wives that have this difficult decision to make, be kind to yourself, knowing at least you have sent them to, in my opinion, one of the best.
PS the cake is rather nice in the meeting areas too!
Reply from Karla Smith, Reviews Team at Manor LodgeWhat a lovely and heartwarming review, thank you. We are touched by your kind words and we are so happy that Dad is no longer lonely and settled in so quickly and that you no longer have to worry about dad. We love having Dad and you as part of the Manor Lodge family.

Mum went into Manor Lodge for a two-week respite stay. We were so impressed by the level of care and attention she was given while she was there, as well as the facilities and, particularly the quality of food on offer. The team took a great interest in Mum as a person, and she was very stimulated by
the activities.
From our first meeting with the team, we were struck by their openness and understanding. We received a warm welcome on all of our visits, and we were delighted to see how happy and relaxed Mum seemed when we collected her at the end of her stay. I would recommend Manor Lodge without hesitation.

We just wanted to say how very grateful we are for the care and compassion that the staff at Manor Lodge showed to our mum, and us, throughout her years there and particularly in her last few days of end-of-life care.
From the day that Mum moved in we knew that she would receive the best care possible
and despite her advancing dementia, she still enjoyed all of the activities and developed a genuine friendship with her carers, as did we.
The staff were incredibly supportive during Mum's last few days and treated her with dignity and love. They bent over backward to help us provide Mum with a peaceful end and took all of the stress away from a difficult few days. Their care was genuinely heartwarming and beautiful. We can honestly say that we saw the best of humanity in action. The managers should be very proud of all of their staff.
We will miss the friends that we made there and the delicious cakes that were always on offer!

All staff are friendly and helpful and they always acknowledge my Mother when we are walking about the home, using her name to say hello. We are listened to by the carers and the management team and problems are resolved. We are kept informed of any changes or incidences concerning my Mother and every
effort is made to maintain her cleanliness. The activities are varied and the staff seem to join in with great enthusiasm encouraging participation whenever possible. Seeing photos on social media is great. It would be nice to see more home comforts or familiar objects in the day room and the communal ‘café’ areas so that it looks less like a care home and more like a home/hotel. However, I realize this could be tricky in some areas.

My mum spent from December until February 2024. Her time there was good. She was well cared for and felt loved, all the staff were so kind and lovely. In particular the staff on Roxwell ward, they went over and above to make her comfortable. Mum felt safe with them and they cared for her in a way that
I would have expected. Mum was in their care until the day she passed away. Thank you Manor Lodge for making my mum's last few weeks the best that anyone could have done.

My dad moved into Manor Lodge in January, as his dementia condition was making it very difficult to manage independently. We were concerned about how he would settle in but he has now been there just over a month and is doing very well. He particularly enjoys the company of other residents in the lounge
and enjoys sharing meals with them in the dining room. He also enjoys the daily activities on offer, which include skittles, painting and watching a film in their own cinema room!
When we visit there is always a member of staff on hand if we have any queries, and they are all friendly, kind and attentive. We would definitely recommend Manor Lodge.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.858)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.858) out of 10 for Manor Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 56 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 56 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.858 for Manor Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (573 Excellents x 5) + (73 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 656 Ratings = 4.858
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Manor Lodge is based on 56 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24, which has been reached with 56 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Natasha Webster

Job Title: Home Manager

Hi, I'm Natasha Webster, the Home Manager at Manor Lodge.

I am a qualified Registered Nurse and have completed the Future Home Manager training with Care UK. I previously worked as Deputy Manager at Manor Lodge and, before joining Care UK six years ago, I was a Clinical Nurse Specialist at a local hospice in Surrey. After supporting a Care UK home as a CNS, I was inspired by the happy atmosphere and compassionate team, which led me to apply for a Clinical Nurse Manager role.

A care home manager should be compassionate and values-driven, promoting dignity, safety and person-centred care. Strong leadership, emotional intelligence, and sound clinical and governance knowledge are essential to ensure high standards and support both residents and staff.

My favourite part of the day is walking around the home, seeing residents and staff happy, and watching meaningful moments and achievements unfold.

Outside of work, my family and I enjoy WWII re-enactment weekends, 1940s swing jive dancing with my daughter, and I also enjoy crochet and knitting.

My biggest career highlight has been becoming a Home Manager. I’m proud of the difference we make in residents’ lives each day and supporting staff to grow. The most important part of my role is ensuring residents are happy and safe, and that staff feel supported to develop and progress.
