We visited Ashcombe House, to see a friend who had recently become a resident there. We were immediately welcomed by staff- being given coffee and cake. We waited in a comfortable lounge area because the residents were enjoying entertainment in the main lounge. Our friend was brought to join us- we were offered more coffee! Our friend was obviously happy and settled in her new home- she was full of praise for how she was being cared for her every need was met with gentleness and concern. She really felt "at home".
Thank you for your kind feedback, I will be sure to feed this back to the team.
The last three months my wife has been in the care of Barchester Ashcombe House Care Home. A lovely home and I wouldn't want to put anybody somewhere I wouldn't want to be myself. Thank you.
Thank you for you time in completing a review we really value your feedback
Sadly our mum didn't much time at Ashcombe Care Home before she died. But from the moment the general manager met her in hospital, to the day she died the care and attention given to mum was second to none. Every carer and nurse could not do enough to support her, and even in the end of life they cared for her and us with kindness and dignity. Only wish she had more time at Ashcombe.
Thank you, for your kind review. Your Mum was a truly wonderful lady. It was a privilege to care for her. We are deeply grateful you entrusted us during such an important time in her life. She will be missed
When my aunt passed away in March. The management and staff went above and beyond to make sure that we were informed of what had happened to her. A member of staff was with her at all times during her time in hospital before she passed away. When we visited the home staff were very attentive to us. All the staff and management showed kindness to my aunt when we asked questions, they answered them with care, and genuinely, we could see they really cared and was loved by them. The home is immaculate and well maintained. My aunt was well looked after and I couldn't ask for any more.
Thank you for your kind review, your aunt will be missed by us all, a truly remarkable lady.
My mother was 103 this last weekend. She is not aware of everything around her, but appeared happy to be in her best clothes, with balloons and a beautiful cake made especially for her. Mum has been in Ashcombe for 6 years and is always treated with respect and care.
Thank you for your kind review. We had the best day celebrating with you all.
The rooms are not big, and there are only 30 residents, which makes Ashcombe a very homely place to stay.
Thank you for your review, it means a great deal to receive feedback and we look forward to seeing you again in May.
Staff are very professional and caring and thoughtful, they are super efficient and deal with any queries straight away , so pleased my mum is in this care home she is very happy there ,
Thank you Christine, for your kind feedback it means so much to us when we receive feedback and compliments.
Cosy bedrooms and cosy day room where all activities take place.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for us. your feedback is truly valued and it's helpful for other families to read when searching for care for their loved ones. I will make sure the team are informed of your kind words.
The staff are the loveliest caring people. It puts our minds at rest knowing he is being so well cared for. A suggestion of satellite TV in the living room so residents could watch more variety of old programs instead of just (currently) game shows of which only 2 residents watch and have control over the remote.
Thank you, Chloe, for your review and feedback. I will certainly take note of your comment regarding satellite TV or any other potential streaming/network systems that we could provide for the residents.
Barchester Ashcombe House Care Home is a very happy care home, very friendly, nicely furnished but noisy. The staff were always happy and willing to do whatever was needed. It was so good to be taken out of the garden centre. I would recommend to friends.
Thank you for you feedback, we really enjoyed your company through your respite stay. We have addressed the volume of the television in the neighbouring bedroom so hopefully this will address the noise. We hope to welcome you back in the future.
Barchester Ashcombe House Care Home offers a fantastic and engaging environment with dedicated staff who take the time to connect with residents and understand their unique needs. There are daily activities for everyone, complimented by top-quality restaurant food with plenty of variety. The facility warmly welcomes families to participate and engage. If I had to describe Ashcombe, it's a place that caters to personal and individual needs, fosters family involvement and promotes happiness, smiles, laughter and fun. For my family and me, this home is truly exceptional. 10/10.
Thank you for your review; it is wonderful to have your experiences, and I will certainly feed this back to the team.
At 91 with cancer and mobility issues, Dad could no longer safely care for Mum.
Up to this point in our dear mum's life, we had always said we would never move mum into a care home.
Sadly we had to face facts, we had to think of Dad becoming so exhausted from caring for Mum.
We did lots of research and arranged a visit. As soon as we walked through the door we felt an instant warmth, we felt relaxed and felt our pre-conceived worries melt away.
Mum has been a resident for 3 weeks and is settling well. The relief of knowing she is safe is such a wonderful feeling. Every member of staff has treated Mum with the utmost dignity and respect, nothing has been too much trouble.
They really do go the extra mile.
On my parent's 61st anniversary, they set a table with flowers, a glass of wine and even baked and iced a beautiful cake.
Wonderful enrichment activities and a family feel to the home.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. We are truly privileged that you chose us to care for your Mum. I will pass your kind words onto the team.
Husband has been here for seven years. The staff are so caring and helpful and is only 5 minutes away from where I live, so if there was an emergency, I could be here very quickly.
Thank you for your time in completing a review for us. We really appreciate your comments.
From show round to Mum moving into Barchester Ashcombe House Care Home, I can not fault any part of it. It was an easy choice as this was the best home out of the many I visited. I was made to feel valued and all details explained on an easy-to-understand basis. On the visit to Mum, she was put at ease and treated like a real person, not just a number. Day of arrival was handled very professionally, from pick up to room preparation. I could not fault the lunch either. Having just visited Mum after one week of her being there, I could not be more pleased. She has joined in with activities, made friends and looks so well. My sister and I cannot thank you enough.
Thank you for your review, we are so pleased you chose us to care for your mum. She has settled in so well.
I have been LPOA for an elderly lady for many years and she went into Barchester Ashcombe House Care Home in 2018. The staff have always been excellent and have cared for this lady like she was family. Originally, she went into the home with her husband whose health was failing. He became a paraplegic and sadly died in 2019. The staff looked after him and were very professional in meeting his complex needs. Over the intervening years, the management and staff have looked after this lady with kindness and gentleness and it has made it a pleasant home. In April, she suffered what we think was a mild stroke and also succumbed to a chest infection. As a result, she passed away at the grand age of 95. The nurses and staff have been excellent throughout this difficult period and together with the local GP practice, provided all the care that one could have hoped for. This care home may not be the largest care home but it was perfect for this lady.
Thank you for your review on Ashcombe, she will surely be missed by us all.
I have been visiting two or three friends for the past three years and have been very impressed with the staff here and their attitude and dealing with the residents.
Thank you for your review, it's always a pleasure seeing you come in to visit.
This is an excellent care home. Atmosphere always welcoming and staff are receptive to suggestions. Rooms (though small) are always clean and maintenance is thorough. Residents often enjoy excellent entertainment. Food is attractive and garden delightful. Sadly, have to put poor for value for money - as no home is good value - that takes residents' life savings.
Thank you for your kind feedback; I will ensure I pass this on to the team.
My mum is very well cared for. The staff are always very helpful, efficient and fun. The activities are always fun and entertaining. Because of the above, I enjoy visiting my mum.
Thank you for your review; we really appreciate your feedback, it's always lovely to see you.
My dad is cared for well at Ashcombe House. Everyone there does such a great job. I can not fault anything and I appreciate the respect and care my dad is given.
Thank you Cheryl for your time in completing a review for us. I will pass this on to the team.
When my relative went into her care home, she was sad, confused and anxious. She is visually impaired and found it confusing. Within a month we could see an improvement. It was amazing. She has her quirks which will not change but everyone has been so caring and patient, it is wonderful. From all her family, thank you.
Thank you for your review, We are so happy you picked us for your aunt, she is great! We love caring for her.

Meet the Team (12)

Hi, my name is Alina, and I am the General Manager here at Ashcombe House.
I started my journey in care as a carer, working hands-on with residents before going on to qualify as a nurse. That experience shaped everything about the way I lead, and it's something I carry with me every single day.
It is my job to make sure Ashcombe House is a safe, caring, and happy place — for our residents who call it home, and for the brilliant team who look after them.
Please do come and visit us, meet the team, and have a look around. We would love to welcome you.

Hello, I’m Sarah, and I qualified as a nurse in 2004.
Over the course of my career, I have worked in both hospital and community settings within the NHS, with my previous role as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner with the Urgent Community Response Team in Berkshire. It was within this role that I gained my Master's qualification in Advanced Clinical Practice and a love for older adult nursing.
I am passionate about providing excellent care and support to older adults and will strive to provide person-centred care at all times. As Deputy Manager, I will support our wonderful team to continue to be the welcoming, fun, caring home it already is.

Each of my days starts with a warm welcome to our residents and staff. The happiness and satisfaction of the residents and their relatives is the top priority.
I have a wealth of knowledge of working in a care system. I am very passionate about my role as Administrator at Ashcombe House.

I have recently joined Ashcombe and have really enjoyed getting to know the residents and the staff, I have lots of experience as a nurse and like to give my best every day. I always have a smile and am always there when anyone needs me.

Hi, my name is Gillian, and I am the Activities Coordinator at Ashcombe House.
I love spending time with and getting to know our residents; this helps me to offer meaningful activities within the home. From big events to a chat over a cuppa, every day is different. I am very privileged to do a job that I really enjoy.
When I'm not working, my Working Cocker Spaniel Basil keeps me busy!

I'm new to the team at Ashcombe and pride myself on delivering restaurant-quality food and fine dining. I enjoy interacting with the residents and finding out more about their likes and dislikes.

I started working at Barchester in 2019, have a background in electrical work, and joined the Ashcombe team in 2025. I’ve always enjoyed understanding how things work and finding practical solutions to keep everything running smoothly.
I take pride in my work and in helping behind the scenes to ensure Ashcombe House remains a safe, comfortable, and welcoming home for our residents.
It is important to me that every resident feels settled, secure, and happy in their surroundings. I am proud to play my part in making Ashcombe House a place where people can truly feel at home and thrive.

As Head Housekeeper, I am passionate about creating a warm, welcoming environment where everyone feels at home.
