My wife is well taken care of, and her needs and health condition are well understood by the staff, nurses and carers.

All the staff are polite and understanding. The rooms are clean. The staff will listen to the requests made by the family members and comply with them.

There are two main complaints that I have experienced. One is that the toilet does not flush which is a health hazard and also the phone reception is very poor. The phone cuts out after a minute and also freezes so you are unable to continue the call.

Reply from Alison Horridge, Customer Advisor on behalf of the team at Erskine Hall Care Home

Thank you for your feedback. We are aware of these issues and they have been dealt with in line with our complaints procedure. We have issued a response accordingly.

All staff are very welcoming and friendly and seem to know my father well. The home is opening up now after Covid to allow visitors access to communal areas so we can join in activities. My father likes the food and goes to the dining area at lunchtime but is disappointed that everyone seems to have their supper in their rooms.
It is a shame that care homes are short of staff as there is a big difference between the permanent carers to the agency staff. The carers all joined in for a Halloween party even doing a little song and dance for the residents.
The rooms are spacious with a built-in wardrobe and en-suite shower rooms.

The home is good at keeping us advised when my father has had a fall or has an appointment arranged and I feel he is safe as no one can enter without a staff member letting you in or to leave. He does feel isolated as residents don't seem to congregate for a chat.

My mother was at Erskine Hall for 5 years and throughout the care was first class. In the days leading up to her death, the staff were there for her and ensured she was comfortable and passed away peacefully and not alone.

Erskine Hall is a very well-managed purpose-built care home situated in lovely grounds where residents can sit or walk with relatives. I received much-appreciated advice and assistance from their admin team when my dear wife, who has Alzheimer's, had to go into the care home. All the staff both nursing and non-nursing are excellent and very caring. Their duties are always performed in a professional manner together with that wonderful natural ingredient of 'kindness' added.

As a service user at Erskine Hall Care Home, I have nothing but good thoughts and even better words to say. The service of practical care and even mental assistance has been particularly good for me. All the staff are sympathetic but practical and caring. The social side of the service is excellent and I have never felt isolated or alone.

My sister and I were unable to view Erskine Hall Care Home last year due to Covid-19 prior to our mother's admission. We then had to leave her for 14-days before being able to visit. We were encouraged by the staff to face time and phone whenever we liked to make sure she had settled in ok. She struggled to adapt to being in the home but the staff were wonderful and would encourage her to take part in the activities. The staff were always very kind and understanding towards her. In the last few weeks of her life, they couldn't have been more accommodating to us to enable us to visit and spend time with her. We both would highly recommend Erskine Hall Care Home.

Considering my husband was admitted during covid and I was unable to view Erskine Hall, I was not disappointed. The care received was extremely good and it was good to hear staff laughing despite the pressures. A very happy atmosphere. First-class attention to medical care. Sad that visiting was so restricted during covid, but overall very satisfied.

Covid 19 has made it very difficult for the care home to excel in everything and having visitors has been one area. Also, I believe reduced possible activities.
Food and drink. I was very happy with the supplied drink but did feel the food could have more variety. The soup may have been healthy, but was hard to describe with little taste.
Some staff shortage was apparent at times, but they were all excellent and looked after me well.

Unable to comment on value for money. I have nothing to compare it with.

My short stay at Erskine Hall Care Home following a hip replacement contributed greatly to my recovery. Erskine Hall offered me a much-needed rest. The staff were caring, adaptable and attentive to their patient's needs. Their flexibility (meal times etc) was particularly appreciated. Should I need respite, I would go back to Erskine Hall with pleasure.

Under Covid restriction, Erskine Hall was a Godsend. As we got Mother out of the hospital for end of life care, so the family could visit her in her final weeks of her 97-year life. All the nurses and carers were wonderful and very helpful in the care they gave Mother and the attention they gave us when visiting. Regular communications were excellent. All in all, a big thank you.

Great facilities and lovely furnishing since the recent refurbishment of the care home. Its large and spacious areas for residents and relatives were a big factor when choosing the home for my nan as before COVID we would regularly visit her along with other friends and family members and were able to spend time with her as if she were in her own home. Great range of activities for her to attend and entertainment rooms. Glad that during COVID the staff were quick to adapt to relatives' and residents' needs by organising vital Zoom/Facetime calls to keep us in touch with our loved ones. Overall a pleasing care home with friendly and welcoming staff and rooms are always very clean and tidy.

Resident has been present for just over three years now, and during this time has been on the whole very happy. Obviously, over the last year the staff, the care and support received and the importance of superb management could not have been more needed. So thank you all for all you have done for my very special friend and all residents there.

Review from Gillian W (Stepdaughter of Resident) published on 28 January 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

We went online and viewed the Erskine Hall website which we were very impressed with. The building is beautiful. The last official care inspection report, which was old, did momentarily make us doubt that Erskine was the right place. However, we made enquiries with friends who had had loved ones there in recent times. All the feedback received about Erskine was very positive. A phone call to Erskine Hall itself was answered sympathetically and honestly which put our minds at rest. We have nothing but good things to say about the staff. They dealt with everything so well and were always very helpful with phone enquiries. Due to Covid restrictions, we could not visit personally, but the staff were very accommodating at setting up a ZOOM meeting between my stepfather and his wife which was a huge comfort to her. Staff could not have been more caring, particularly when he was in the last hours of his life, and facilitated a visit to see him. We would highly recommend Erskine Hall.

Review from Marilyn S (Daughter of Resident) published on 12 January 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mother decided to move to Erskine Hall in November 2018. Initially, Mum was quite independent and needed only a safe environment for living. She appreciated the company of others, the various activities, and the absence of day to day worries. Lockdowns and restrictions on visits meant that 2020 was a difficult year and one in which her age was catching up with her. Mum gradually needed more personal care and eventually, end of life care. She died peacefully in December 2020 at the age of 101. Mum had formed close personal bonds with the nurses and carers who looked after her and would have been confident of the care she would receive. Mum had been an 'old fashioned' nurse and had high standards. We are very grateful to all the staff at Erskine Hall for caring for Mum with kindness and respect.

My mother lived at Erskine Hall from October 2017 until she passed away in August 2020. The home is very comfortable and spacious. There is an extensive menu; a varied programme of activities and close links with local schools. Erskine has a welcoming atmosphere. My brother and I spent many hours there - visiting on a daily basis, sometimes joining activity groups, using the adapted kitchen to bake cakes with mum and sometimes we were able to order and pay for meals so that we could have dinner with her. We felt that the home encouraged and supported existing close family ties. This was not the case in a previous home where mum spent a few weeks. The greatest asset of Erskine is the staff team, who are kind and professional. Many individual staff members are deeply compassionate and empathic, working hard to get to know residents well. Mum had many funny and tender moments with staff and I will always be grateful for their care towards her, and to us.
