I would thoroughly recommend this care home to anyone thinking of moving a loved one into care. My mother has been a resident for nearly nine years now, and whilst a change of ownership has occurred relatively recently can say that the overall standard of care has always been quite high. Although my
mother suffers from dementia and is unable to communicate verbally, I will say she is very well looked after and have no complaints whatsoever.

There is a wonderfully warm, kind, caring team of people in Hatfield Nursing Home, who have cared for my Mum since June 2021. She moved from another care home, and immediately there was a stark contrast with their approaches to looking after older people. This team have looked after Mum with compassion,
skill, humour and above all person and family-centredness. Nothing is too much trouble.
The room is clean, the food is good, communication excellent and the home is supported by a good GP surgery. There has been a change in management and the nurses and carers have kept up their high standards.
Thank you Hatfield - you have been the best choice of nursing home we could have made for Mum. Keep up the great work.

Overall, no complaints, staff always friendly, helpful.
Mum is happy "most of the time" and probably when not, it's more how she is that particular day.
Sometimes room could feel a bit clearer for visitors - but appreciate time/staff shortages play a part after last two years.

The staff are all extremely nice and helpful. The rooms are clean with ensuite bathroom. It's always lovely and warm. Furthermore, my father feels safe and secure. It's a great home and it was his choice to stay.

The staffing levels seem much lower than my last visit inside the building, in March 2020, but the care seems to be as good. I have not visited during Covid as I wanted a hug, but I cannot have that. It is easier now to visit and do things, like sorting clothing. I know that I cannot stop and talk to
other residents as I did in the past, but we enjoyed saying hello as I walked past.

Since my mum arrived at the beginning of the year she has been cared for extremely well. The staff are all kind and caring. My mum always looks clean and well presented when I visit and I am completely reassured she is in the right place. I can't thank all of the staff enough for treating my mum with
the care and respect she deserves.

My father, 96-years-old, particularly deaf, has received excellent respite care at Hatfield Home. The care home manager is super efficient and responsive to queries. I have not seen inside the home due to Covid isolation rules, but believe it to be of hotel class, and I know my father particularly enjoys
the food and standard of care received.

For the past few months, it is obvious that the work of staff at a care home has been more difficult. I can honestly say the management and staff there have risen to the occasion wonderfully. All safety rules, lockdown, spacing contact with the outside world have been carefully obeyed with compassion
and wisdom. We are all free of Coronavirus. Since I moved here two years ago, I have been impressed by the care taken to preserve the resident's dignity and wellbeing. Long may this continue.

The care throughout covid has been amazing. My Dad was nursed through having the virus, all the restrictions were put in place sensitively, communication with family members has been great. My Dad remains happy there. The manager seems very caring, staff in my Dad's area are great. What a blessing he
ended up there to go through this difficult year. My NHS job involves visiting care homes, so I've seen a lot to compare against.

Generally, I am pleased with the care that has been given to my mother. Obviously, in these COVID times it is difficult to comment via direct observation as we are not allowed into the home. When I meet my mother outside she seems happy and appears to interact well with the staff. They say that she
seems happy, has a good sense of humour and is eating well.
She has moved rooms three times since she moved in for various legitimate reasons so I cannot visualise her in her surroundings at the moment and look forward to the time when we will once again be allowed to visit our family members in the home.
I get phone calls from the staff on her floor updating me for example if she has had a fall, seen a doctor or been tested for COVID (routine).
I have had very little contact from management so I feel that could be better. For example, I was not informed when it was possible to make an appointment to visit my mother, I only found that out when I rang and asked when this could happen.
Reply from Fae Doherty, Senior Marketing Officer at Hatfield Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to review our home and for your kind words about our team and the care your mother receives. Your feedback is truly invaluable to us, so I will be sure to pass this on. Best wishes, Fae.

The care my mum is getting is of a very high level. Not only is this administered to her now very high needs in a way that us technically excellent but all is done with a very warm and human touch. The carers and all who work at Hatfield Residential and Nursing Home are lovely people. I sleep better
at night knowing that Mum is in these lovely people's care.

A universal positive attitude from everyone, helping, welcoming and listening. The home is clean and hospitable. I have visited every day for two and a half years, and have not found anything serious to challenge.
A weak area is the laundry, but I understand the difficulties, and they are doing a
difficult job.

This home is excellent in every way. My mother's husband is at the home, she visits him once a week and has lunch with him, in the dining room. The food is excellent, his room is very nice and a good size. He is well looked after and stimulated by the staff. Even a nice place to visit, happy and relaxed
place to be. Love the Christmas atmosphere when I visited today.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.875)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.875) out of 10 for Hatfield Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 34 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.875 for Hatfield Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (361 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 401 Ratings = 4.875
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hatfield Nursing Home is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 118 registered maximum number of service users is 23.6, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
