This attractive and professionally managed care home rated Outstanding in ‘Well Led’ by the Care Quality Commission in January 2020, has been supporting the local community of Ware for over fifteen years. Established and purpose-built with a positive reputation, Westgate House Care Centre offers quality nursing, residential, rehabilitation and dementia care in a peaceful but central location.

The long-standing home manager, who has been in post for over five years, leads an effective and stable staff group. This, and exceptional in-house training, ensures a skilled and responsive care team to meet the changing individual needs and expectations of every resident. With a caring and compassionate team, where nothing is too much trouble to help residents settle into their new home, the family ethos and the warm relationships the staff achieve are greatly valued by both residents and visitors.

Westgate House has some highly attractive and charming themed day areas in which to relax or socialise; these include the Garden Café – a firm favourite for those who like to enjoy a coffee and chat with the morning paper, the Cinema room, a Reminiscence room, and Café Pierre. Comfortable bedrooms have their own ensuite toilets and washbasins and the home’s showers and bathrooms are newly refurbished.

There are a number of outdoor spaces including a sensory courtyard for residents to benefit from and a separate garden for spending time with friends and relatives.

The facilities have been designed to enhance resident care and quality of life, to optimise cleanliness and help minimise the spread of any infections; this includes a natural ventilation system, wood effect flooring, hand washing facilities in every room and the use of hand gel dispensers throughout the home.

At first, mum was very apprehensive about going into a nursing home. What a pleasant surprise she got!!
My sister, brothers and myself were so taken not only by the place itself - but by the warm, friendly and above all else, caring staff. They made us all feel very welcome at whatever time we turned
up. No question was too trivial - if I didn't get an answer that day, it was there waiting for me the next. Thank you so very much for everything.

I found the care given here first class. The staff were very kind and attentive at all times, nothing is too much trouble. No problems at all though they were very busy and the attention was available as soon as possible. Accommodation good, cleanliness maintained. Rehab activities and exercises very
good. A reassuring experience.

During my stay at Westgate House Care Centre. I have been looked after extremely well the staff are so caring and kind to everybody and nothing is too much bother for them and their cheerfulness helps to keep up the spirits of the patients.
Physiotherapy and occupational therapy is excellent and have
helped to get me independent.

I have always dreaded the thought of hospital because I have numerous food intorerences. You have coped amazingly well with this, far better than I ever expected. With very rare exceptions, I have been treated very well.
My only complaint is that the staff could be quieter at night.

My mother came into the unit for rehabilitation following a urine infection. Unfortunately, she contracted pneumonia a week after she got here and didn't manage to rehabilitate. She was discharged home with a full care package. The nursing staff and carers were all very good and took good care of her.
The unit is very well run and no complaints. Our issues were with the social services.

Short term therapy/physio following broken pelvis.
Initially, no weight bearing and in one week I was full weight bearing.
Very disappointed with a lack of management at the time of discharge.
Promises made that medication would be organised at the time of discharge in bubble packs or discharge would
be delayed.
A family member had to resolve this as no bubble pack was provided and a loose bag of medication was given and incomplete.
A second pack of loose medication had to be collected by the family member.
