This attractive and professionally managed care home rated Outstanding in ‘Well Led’ by the Care Quality Commission in January 2020, has been supporting the local community of Ware for over fifteen years. Established and purpose-built with a positive reputation, Westgate House Care Centre offers quality nursing, residential, rehabilitation and dementia care in a peaceful but central location.

The long-standing home manager, who has been in post for over five years, leads an effective and stable staff group. This, and exceptional in-house training, ensures a skilled and responsive care team to meet the changing individual needs and expectations of every resident. With a caring and compassionate team, where nothing is too much trouble to help residents settle into their new home, the family ethos and the warm relationships the staff achieve are greatly valued by both residents and visitors.

Westgate House has some highly attractive and charming themed day areas in which to relax or socialise; these include the Garden Café – a firm favourite for those who like to enjoy a coffee and chat with the morning paper, the Cinema room, a Reminiscence room, and Café Pierre. Comfortable bedrooms have their own ensuite toilets and washbasins and the home’s showers and bathrooms are newly refurbished.

There are a number of outdoor spaces including a sensory courtyard for residents to benefit from and a separate garden for spending time with friends and relatives.

The facilities have been designed to enhance resident care and quality of life, to optimise cleanliness and help minimise the spread of any infections; this includes a natural ventilation system, wood effect flooring, hand washing facilities in every room and the use of hand gel dispensers throughout the home.

The care, respect and efficiency shown to mum and all who visited her was second to none, absolutely 1st class from when you first enter the building. We were made to feel so welcome and mum was very happy at Westgate. Sadly mum passed away and the respect and dignity given to her after her passing
was again 1st class. We also were treated in the same manner by all the staff and we cannot speak highly enough of Westgate. Thank you.

From the moment we arrived at this property to initially view the facilities we had a very, very good feeling. We met with the manager for our initial meeting to view the facilities, who showed us around and was very helpful and very pleasant. We were actually advised by the manager after our viewing,
to have "a think about it and definitely look at other properties" but we knew instantly this was the right place for my mum. On arrival with my mother a week later, we received a warm and very helpful greeting from all staff we met. It was actually the manager's day off but she came in to make sure we were Ok. My mother was instantly offered tea and biscuits and was shown to her spotless large room, amazing. We have obviously since made regular visits to see my mum and each time we have received a friendly and welcoming greeting from all staff we meet. The property is spotless and odour free (unlike the last care home!) My mother is very, very happy and so are we.

I found the staff very caring and helpful. They seem to know if you had a problem and they would help you. I thought of them as friends I could talk too. If I had to go to a care home again it would be here.

I was very comfortable during my stay. The staff were brilliant in all they did for me. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Breakfast club is a good idea to meet other clients. Excercise session kept us all moving. I will miss you all.

I have been looked after from the moment I arrived. The staff here is very considerate and exercises are very beneficial. I can move better and walk with a frame for quite a long distance.

Having worked in the Health and Social Care field for 30 years in a variety of roles and environments, Nancy has had the platform to develop Westgate House in to a home that has a CQC ‘Good’ rating along with a fantastic staff team who support each other in making Westgate House an enjoyable place to live and work.
