This attractive and professionally managed care home rated Outstanding in ‘Well Led’ by the Care Quality Commission in January 2020, has been supporting the local community of Ware for over fifteen years. Established and purpose-built with a positive reputation, Westgate House Care Centre offers quality nursing, residential, rehabilitation and dementia care in a peaceful but central location.

The long-standing home manager, who has been in post for over five years, leads an effective and stable staff group. This, and exceptional in-house training, ensures a skilled and responsive care team to meet the changing individual needs and expectations of every resident. With a caring and compassionate team, where nothing is too much trouble to help residents settle into their new home, the family ethos and the warm relationships the staff achieve are greatly valued by both residents and visitors.

Westgate House has some highly attractive and charming themed day areas in which to relax or socialise; these include the Garden Café – a firm favourite for those who like to enjoy a coffee and chat with the morning paper, the Cinema room, a Reminiscence room, and Café Pierre. Comfortable bedrooms have their own ensuite toilets and washbasins and the home’s showers and bathrooms are newly refurbished.

There are a number of outdoor spaces including a sensory courtyard for residents to benefit from and a separate garden for spending time with friends and relatives.

The facilities have been designed to enhance resident care and quality of life, to optimise cleanliness and help minimise the spread of any infections; this includes a natural ventilation system, wood effect flooring, hand washing facilities in every room and the use of hand gel dispensers throughout the home.

When my mum came to Westgate House, myself, my husband and my sister came to visit her. We all said what a lovely, friendly, clean, happy environment it was. Lovely rooms, lovely food, excellent treatment from staff, everybody works so hard. There was a singer just before Xmas and children singing and
party food, it really is a lovely place to be taken care of.

During my three week stay, I was impressed and delighted with the professional care and kindness I received throughout. The encouragement to become independent and to regain as much as possible of my mobility contributed enormously to my continuing recovery. My replacement knee was checked frequently
and my general wellbeing was treated as equally important. The social interaction with fellow residents was always friendly. I shall really miss their company with its sympathy and humour but I am ready to move on.

My mother spent 3/4 weeks at Westgate on the rehab floor, the help and motivation my mother got whilst there was wonderful. All staff be it management or carers were delightful, cooperative, understanding. Being a carer in the community and working in a care home myself, I would like to say this is

My fiercely independent mother became totally dependent after a fall. All the staff at Westgate were brilliant, giving my mum the encouragement she needed. Living miles away I had peace of mind that Mum was happy and being properly looked after. I so impressed with the attention to details as well as

My mother in law was admitted to Primrose for ongoing care. Unfortunately, she only spent a week in the unit as she suffered a stroke and passed away. The staff are outstanding, professional, caring and compassionate and the care given to her was of a very high standard in what is a very challenging
unit. Having nurse-led care on every shift, it's essential and proved to be of benefit in her care. A well-led care home, from the manageress to the unit manager are outstanding.

The home has been really helpful my mothers care and rehabilitation whilst staying here. The food has been good with lots of choices. The staff have been exceptional from the receptionist through to carers, physios and cooks. Thank you for making my mums stay comfortable.

The staff were so kind and caring to me. They always put themselves out to provide care. It was a very pleasant environment. I feel very fortunate to have been in your care. The family are very grateful for the care, support and kindness provided to our Mother whilst in your care. From admittance to departure we have been so impressed. Lovely, lovely, dedicated people. The staff were mostly very friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make you feel welcome. It would have been nice to have a TV and radio supplied in the rooms, and because I find it very hard to stand, I would have liked a stool to perch on when I washed. Also, the food was a bit cold when
it got to me. However, those are minor details and the main care work was very good. I was mainly impressed with the number of hours that the staff work and how efficient they are.

Fire door adjacent to F3 is extremely noisy - slams shut. Better stimulation needed at weekends. Front door security is excellent. Staff are extremely friendly and polite but at busy changeover times, can be slow.

Having worked in the Health and Social Care field for 30 years in a variety of roles and environments, Nancy has had the platform to develop Westgate House in to a home that has a CQC ‘Good’ rating along with a fantastic staff team who support each other in making Westgate House an enjoyable place to live and work.
