It provided me with thoughtful care following my hip replacement, check-ups happened almost on a 24hr basis. The atmosphere throughout the Orchard House is one of cheerful goodwill.

The food was varied and very good indeed.

Not able to use the activities as yet so unable to comment. My six days here so far have been very pleasant. If I needed ongoing care and had to sell my house I would have no hesitation to come here.

The communications between staff need improving. During this past week, members of our family have been given contradictory information and instructions on the visiting times permitted and where to remove and deposit our protective face masks, gloves and apron.
On Tuesday on arrival, these items were issued plus a temperature taken, on Wednesday no temperature was taken?

On leaving my brother-in-law was instructed to wash his hands. I was not?

All the staff attending to me were excellent. Their thoughtfulness and cheerfulness were marvelous, which shows good training. Obviously the coronavirus affected some of the usual facilities offered, but light relief was given when safe, including gin! The management office has been extremely helpful with the use of phones and my many inquiries and those of close family. This is about my returning to my own home. I would highly recommend the Orchard, provided it can be afforded!

My Mum went into the Orchard at the start of lockdown for some respite as she was struggling at home. Obviously, the period was fully within Covid lockdown, so the home was running differently than it would normally be as they were taking extra care to protect the residents. Notwithstanding the restrictions Mum's health improved markedly with the excellent care she was given enabling her to return back home in a much better state of repair. As restrictions ease, I have no doubt she would enjoy the full facilities provided.

Reply from Gaynor Rhead, Manager at Barchester Orchard House Care Home

We were made to feel welcome from the moment we first got in touch with Orchard. A team member who would actually care for our Mum showed us around and answered any questions. We were able to select a room which would suit her needs and move familiar things in from home. Even when there were issues with her discharge from hospital, the team from Orchard went out of their way to help and settle her in.
Since then we have had no cause for complaint. Our Mum seems to be happy, loves the food and cakes and is cared for as an individual, taking her personality into account. There is a huge range of activities available in normal times, if she wishes to join in.

Orchard has used their imagination to provide stimulating activities during lockdown. Their daily communication has been fantastic. We know that we can contact them at any time with our concerns.

At 80 I wasn't expecting to go into a care home/centre and I have had to change my mind, but I am now feeling guilty as I am enjoying being here. I can't find fault with any of the staff, they are all caring and loving. I came into the care centre in March and the virus started soon after. Several things had been arranged by activities that had to be put on hold, but I'm sure they will soon continue again. Thanks to all the staff.
